Whats the point of this format anyway? Everything there was already implemented by graf zahl in both boom and udmf. Does it atleast have portals?
Having a modder-oriented format without having to deal with the licensing and legal fuckery of using GZDoom code, and even then it wasn't really worth it because most normies are still asking how to play Brutal Doom and myhouse.wad on the new port.

Hell yeah! What is more funny, Joe opened a can of worms on his own ass by daring to ask for "constructive criticism" of what he considers to be the best room in his map. Unfortunately for him, it was immediately exposed with multiple flaws by CittyKat. ABearInThaWoods' reply is even more on point, exposing Joe's noob methods and laziness. If the Bear, who is one of the most collected and calm DB members, is so fed up with him, maybe it's time for the little furry Jo, to find another place for his shitty creations.

By the way, BEHOLD, Joe-Ilya's new map for DBP68. The gameplay is even worse in this one. The repetitive texturing and misalignments are all present, AGAIN!

Time to put this statement to the test! I'm going to rework Joe Ilya's map as a final piece of constructive feedback. If words won't open his eyes, maybe a more practical implementation of our criticism, would. At the very least, it should give him some food for thought if some no name kiwifarmer, with 1/10th of his mapping experience, ends up doing a better job in salvaging this turd. Now, i know making changes to someone else's map is a bad sport, and i'm very much against it, but we're talking Joe-fucking-Ilya here, you know, the same guy who on multiple occasions tried to boot mappers out of community projects and who has massive ego (despite being a shit mapper) and has no respect for anyone else but his own furry-pony ass. Besides, i'm only going to upload the revised version in this thread and nowhere else.

I spend a couple of hours working on it, around 5 or 6. It was fairly productive as i was a bit rusty with UDB. It wasn't very fun though... i thought i knew most of the issues with the map, but you have no idea how poorly slapped together this abomination is until you try to fix it yourself. There are so many reasons to bash Joe for this, i can't even count them all. What were they thinking, accepting this in a DBP and putting it at the start?
Not one area was properly aligned. There were no unpeged lower and upper textures in the whole map. Not one door had a door track or a support texture. I'm also a bit disappointed with the resource pack, i feel like a few marble variations were missing, specifically for the dark green custom one that i chose to work with.

If this was my own map, i'll definitely spend more hours working on it. The interiors need a bit more decoration and detail and the combat needs refining, but for that extensive playtesting is needed, which is once again pointless since it's Joe's map, and this version serves no other purpose but to showcase how unfinished the original is.

Not bad! Maybe you could put this into the next Kiwifarms Mapping Project (retextured) and name it something like "Ode to fAILure".

If it ends up in a KF Project, the official title could be "Ballad of Joe-Ilya" or something like that. That will be interesting, but if i have to retexture this again, i'll have nightmares. Anyways, i'm open to participation as long as the project is in the Doom 2 format this time, like the DBPs.

Glad that the weird teleporting boat gimmick was gone too.

Yeah, i still wonder why the hell Joe thought this is a good idea, and the only answer i can come up with is that the guy is an idiot. It's not impressive, it doesn't look believable, it's ugly and breaks the map into two disconnected pieces of total shit. So you're going to simulate boat travel, but you're going to have the horrizon cut off into the sky 5-10 feet away from the player, breaking any immersion. Fucking genius! Even a total casual with no experience in mapping will play this and immediately figure out how the trick is done. It's worse than a glorified teleporter., which come to think of it, would have been a better choice... it won't simulate boat travel, but at least you can make the two sections of the map far away from each other, even visible on the distance, and not having to stare over the edge of the water into nothingness. The moron chose the worst possible, most immersion breaking method, and even after it got bashed in playtesting, he had the chance to remove the gimmick but he still decided to stick with it, because he thought it was some cacoward worthy masterpiece or something. So yeah, he's a proven moron.

after Ilyas, your variant is just kinda boring, cause again, you cant really polish the turd, and since you already cut the ship gimmick and if you touch combat any more its not going to be the same map anymore really. Like 14 monster closets in a row, thats prime JL shit. Why the fuck would you put 14 monster closets in a row? Just have some monster teleport behind player or something.

I didn't actually count the closets, but it did felt like the map is closet heavy. I even thought of making some of them open simultaneously, to reduce the amount of separate closet traps, because the idiot made them open one by one. And i'm pretty sure i deleted at least 2 closets from the original, so there were more before. The combat needs an overhaul, for sure. A big problem is the layout of the map, it's all linear bullshit, and the outside area is a bit too open, so in one place you run around like crazy and on the later part, you're going through a corridor. I added some teleport ambushes myself to make the outside area less empty, but kept the difficulty at the "map01" level. That being said, i don't think adding a lot more teleport ambushes would solve the combat. Teleport attacks can also get repetitive and boring fast if they are overused. In my opinion, both of these types of ambushes should be used with measure, and a good map should rely on its layout, architecture and on spot enemy placement to be interesting, like it is in the better levels of the classic iwads.

Dude should just go back to making Doom mods instead of associating himself with Troonworld altogether, considering that his last work I've seen so far was around 3 years ago.
