That's Sandy. Fun guy, and prolific, wrote a whole bunch of classic RPG and boardgame stuff way before he was at iD Software, like the Call Of Cthulhu game, then after designing levels (among lots of other things) for games like Doom and Quake, he'd move on to be a lead developer for the Age Of Empires series, to name just some.
He loves games, horror movies, horror stories, and all kinds of classic nerd shit, you can tell that he's the kind of dude who got to work with his passions/hobbies for a living for most of his life, and actually succeeded at it. Being a Mormon, he's naturally got lots of kids and grandkids too. He made it in life in more ways than one.

I think it can go several ways if Romero tells them to fuck off, one is the troons and dickriding posers who don't even play the game do a mass seething, revealing themselves further or creating a zealous troon community of their own and can possibly split and make them more easier to distinguish from the sane ones, the most likely outcome.
The most optimistic outcome would be them ditching doom and leaving the game alone forever.
The most hilarious outcome would be them leaving Doom but creating their own doom game or clone (possibly taking over freedoom) and trying to create a community over that.
