I was in the old #vr irc too, but a bit inconsistently. I wonder if I have any chat logs anywhere. Not sure if I have any hard drives from the era. Term never seemed overly petty. Don't know if I'd call him egocentric, either. He was confident for sure, and not afraid to take control of a space. That came around to bite him in the ass though, as is mods were actually good and the wrong sorts of people sycophanted around him. He seems like an okay guy, and he still makes things.

Kegan similarly is just some guy who makes stuff, but it feels like he wants to be a "name". I don't know that he'd resort to petty deletions and samefagging to get there. Who can you really know on the internet. This leaked info just shows he was janitoring the board. No evidence of any wrongdoing really. Except for maybe excessively cracking down on anything that could be seen as community drama. How the tables turn.

Then you missed all the people he unpersoned for disagreeing with him and all the little public meltdowns he had over stupid shit where he would disrupt the whole channel to complain. My favorite was when he flipped out for like 30-45 minutes because someone said that Totalbiscuit deserved to die of cancer for wishing cancer on other people, ranting and raving about how they were the worst person ever and they were indicative of everything wrong with the world yada yada. He would also do this thing where, if you ever disagreed with him and he couldn't spin it in a way to unperson you, he would just pretend you didn't exist in any group conversations and ignore all lines of discussion from the point you began participating. Dude is a histrionic retard through and through, he just stopped posting as frequently once Discord came out and he started to get his cummies from more private circles.

Do not forget: This is the same man who was in an inner circle with general pervert Mike12/HDoomguy and a literal fucking 12 year old (around 2014-15) who went by marrub at the same time. Shit, even in #vr I saw Mike12 basically grooming marrub through EPE-style sex discussions (specifically homosexuality) that he was WAY too young for, and marrub was anything but private about his broken home life. Everyone even knew his real name: Graham Wright, and allegedly he lived in Florida and was the child of a single mother. Did Term ever say shit about Mike12's obvious grooming, despite being a moderator? No, because Mike12 held some clout and would make sprites for his mods, and marrub wrote code for him (yes, Term was less capable in coding than a 12 year old back then), so he couldn't afford to. By the way, marrub later trooned out and goes by Alison now, surprise surprise, and HDoomguy spends all day gooning to vtubers and oiling them so you just know there's some fucked shit both past and present there.

Terminus was very good about keeping his public face clean, and he can get some credit for that, but he is no different than any other community psycho behind closed doors. He just has a friendlier face and is better at manipulation. Is he also a victim of weird sex advances? Allegedly, and I don't have any reason to think he's lying, but assholes can be victims, it happens all the time.

I think anyone who used that thread for more than a few days would disagree with you, because it was infamous for having one of the most trigger-happy jannies on the whole site, especially post-2017 or so. The amount of fucking times I've had posts deleted or caught 3 day bans (recommended by janitor) just for happening to reply to someone even mildly offtopic is in the high 2-digits. God fucking forbid discussion become even slightly meta: *BANG* 3 day vacation and all posts deleted. Considering that was most likely him, I'd say there was plenty of wrongdoing. I have never been jannied so hard in my life and it was one of the primary reasons I stopped using 4chan at all years ago.

Not really. Quote prevention is intentional for posts with certain amount of symbols reached.

You have to pick specific stuff from post and click on "reply" button. Either that or you can add stuff to multiquote. Specific button will appear near "attach files" button then.

@AngryAboutInternets' account matches up with the general vibes I got as someone who really was just a semi-regular player on the /vr/ servers but never really got involved with the IRC or any chats outside of playing the servers (I really didn't like how the big name modmakers like TerminusEst ended up monopolizing the games and talking about their gay shit in high pop servers when everyone else was just trying to play the fucking game, especially whenever it easily roped people into wanting to get noticed by their modmaker celebrities).

Whoever @lonoviaku is strikes me as the type of person who was in on that inner circle judging by what they're saying.

I'm not in anyone's inner circle. I was friendly with people but not close. Not invited to the sekret club meetings.

FWIW @AngryAboutInternets clearly remembers more specifics than I do, so go with his account. It just surprises me that I apparently missed so much or wrote it off as internet bullshit.

The most concerning thing about the irc in my memory was Marrub, and I actually remember Term at one point telling him to cool it with the sexual shit, not that he was above sexual jokes though. It's all half remembered shit though. I do remember his 13/14th birthday because prior to that I didn't know how young he was. When he "came out" it actually made me sick to my stomach. All the shit we were told to be wary of on the internet when I was 12/13 is now promoted and celebrated by teachers/parents. It's fucked m8, big time.
And I don't remember anything about Mike12 prior to him making it "big" with whatever HDoom release.

The over-jannying of /vr/ isn't /doom/ specific. The whole board is like that. Maybe I'm just used to it.

I've gotten a lot of posts deleted in the past for replying to drama shit or discussing the new games, but I've never gotten anything more than a warning on /doom/. If that, usually they're just silently deleted. It's surprising that people actually got punished in that thread.

We may have been in at different times. I left in 2016 or so after I had just plain had enough, and I wasn't active much past 2015 aside from lurking with Hexchat on my second monitor. Marrub became drastically more sexual over time, and I attribute this to direct exposure to sexual content on that IRC and likely elsewhere. Initially he was just a shy, troubled kid, but soon enough he fell in with Term's group and within like a year he was joking about everyone calling him "bumrub" instead of marrub and saying he was gay and into dick and all kinds of other shit. He fucking lived online (on account of his home life and lack of parental oversight) so god only knows what else he got into. It's such obvious grooming that if it happened today everyone in those groups would have been lit the fuck up on KWF and several other sites 10 times over for it. Mike12 is just the one I am completely sure participated in it because I personally witnessed some of the conversations during hours where they thought nobody else was paying attention, and Terminus is the one who should have done something about it as moderator of the channel but overlooked it because of clout.

I actually had someone, can't remember who, tell me in PMs that they messaged Term about it because the subject came up, but AFAIK nothing was ever done during the time I was there because it just kept happening. I am somewhat glad to hear that Terminus at least put a foot down on marrub's public horniness (feels disgusting to phrase it like that for a teen but I don't know what else you can call it), but by that point the damage was done. A man with morals and a spine would have disassociated himself from a good portion of the members of that IRC well before Term finally left the community, but that's not the way you get popular of course.

I used 4chan from about 2007 through 2023, with 2010-2019 being my most active years, and I can say with certainty that more than 50% of the bans I've ever gotten were 3 day bans for "replying to offtopic" in /doom/, and nearly every single post deletion I've ever had (90%+) were also from /doom/. Not for "posting offtopic", or "flaming", or anything else, for "replying to offtopic" as in happening to quote reply to someone whose IP was associated with offtopic posts, or who made both on and offtopic statements in one post. I did post in a few other /vr/ threads, mainly the ones about Wipeout/FZero and a couple of other N64 games, but I never had issues there. /doom/'s jannying made /tv/ look hands-off in my experience. I legitimately caught less bans for sneedposting than trying to talk in /doom/.

I dunno if I'm just cursed or what.

I've gotten a bunch of 3-days on other boards for a variety of reasons, but the only actual ban I've gotten from /vr/ was an automated one when I posted the KF Doom project. I didn't mind /doom/'s janny for that reason. They'd delete posts, usually quickly, and (I assumed) wouldn't give out bans for minor shit.
Maybe I'm just lucky.

It's also because normal people move on from a game. There were fun Doom mods &maps in the late 90s and 00s, but now that the game is 30 years old? Yeah, it's gonna be dominated by weirdos. I'm kind of a sperg myself, but haven't modded Doom in over 20 years.

I've had a couple of posts deleted for the same reasons. I've also been warned and got banned once for telling some faggot to kys, unlike /v/ or any other board, you're not allowed to say those things there I guess. /doom/ just became more annoying and worse over time, slowly turning into troonworld's bitch and here's an example of what I mean.

I kinda miss trash-talking or making fun at those retarded n̶o̶b̶o̶d̶i̶e̶s̶ 'big-name' mappers, I honestly never minded the doom community 'drama' posts in those threads, they weren't off-topic at all. but anyway, It was fun and hilarious while it lasted, until the janny faggot decided to fuck everything up... I've always believed that bullying tripfags/tourists should be a norm in /doom/
