Got me curious enough to get dsda-doom and try it out...

Played it for like 30 seconds and I can confirm it is a major eye sore. 0/10 would not play again (i like my eyes)

I want to say that the idea of a black and white and red mod seems cool, generally speaking I like the noir+red look/aesthetic, but not when you only use 3 colors.

That's impressive, really. Doom's data structures are so lean that the entirety of the level should fit inside the L3 cache of a modern CPU, and a modern GPU can draw 200 polygons in a billionth of a second. They must have really worked hard to come up with a way to represent a list of 200 sprites that would cause a modern machine to shit its pants.

Who cares about the Doom gameplay, the game was never about that. It was always about the beauty of the automap drawing, like in this case, replicating a picture into the builder.

I mean some of us like drawing shit on the automap... I usually try to hide it though because I'm not some narcissist.

With regards to that CP, it seems like a way to virtue signal to everyone how interesting and indie their musical taste is. The same kind of obnoxious fart-huffing that BTSX was drenched with. When I actually tried to listen to the music the map titles were named after it was barely passable garage band dogshit music.

I don't really mind that, as long as the maps are fun to play. And if you're even trying to hide it, that means that you're doing it in moderation, so i don't see anything wrong with that. I'm pointing at maps that throw gameplay and, in all senses, level design away, in order to create a linedef art piece that will inevitably play like dogshit.

Really bad maps are often poor attempts at a complex or overambitious idea, or more innocently, beginner's trash - I can look at that kinda stuff and not get annoyed. That's just an 'is what it is' situation - the person will improve artistically, or won't.

Boring is a bigger offence than 'bad', in the creative sphere, I think, personally - and he's been at it so long that it'd be retarded for anyone to give the benefit of the doubt that he'll any day start making fun shit to play.

Don't even hate the dude - that's the problem, to hate him, or his maps, he'd have to be interesting.
 
I think if Walter really wants to, he can pull a decent map. The problem is, he doesn't seem to try, it's always a rushed job, because he's involved with 10 projects at once. I don't think this motherfucker has time to sleep. He's 24/7 on both forums, probably rots on discord all the time as well (i'm 100% sure he lurks here as well), comments and shows interest in every bad idea for a CP under the sun, and then he plays it off like that's his thing, "i'm doing it for the memes, guys" sort of thing. @I Ran From Them Quickly you mentioned the Doom Wiki and i think that's a big part of it. Some people are addicted to add stuff to their wiki pages and then fool themselves how important they are. Maybe It's subconscious, or some psychological condition, but it's definitely a thing. They want big resumes on their pages, even though no one ever reads 99% of the wiki pages... especially for slop mappers who think they're special for having one, but in reality, they themselves are only the ones reading it to jerk their own ego. I would guess Walter is a similar case.
