  • Hoodwink (fun). Gives a lot of freedom to position myself. Instantly rewards me if I play well, I get obliterated if I play wrong. No, I did not like the nerfs.
  • Dazzle (team). It is unplayable if you get 2-3 retards that never read the patchnotes or skill description.
  • Ogre Magi (chill). If you’re expecting a rough time with certain players before the match even starts, Ogre is a solid choice. Sometimes, you just need a support that can handle any situation.
  • WITCH DOCTOR (peak dota)

New patch. Lots of minor nerfs, the only really notable change is that Luna got gutted. The Lucent Beam damage talent got moved to 20, replacing the Moon Glaive on Lucent Beam talent that made her poke damage absolutely fucking nutty. Khanda also got nerfed at the same time, so she's just a dead hero for now.

Lovely. Veno ward facet got buffed. Snipers shrapnel facet still untouched. At least wd shard duration got nerfed.

Man, why do they refuse to nerf the heroes have 55%+ winrates in immortal but then nerf a bunch of shit that is 50%~ or is barely played. Weird patch for my tastes. Feels unnecessary if this is all they're going to do.

In the case of WK, they nerf his ass every patch despite having a miniscule pickrate and middling winrate. Iunno, Icefraud must have a hate boner for him. We still haven't gotten the post actual post TI patch as it's just been small batches of nerfs.
 
as a game dev pro, you have to consider what most people experience.

consider: League of Legends dev told a friend of mine (way back when, in 2013) that the Vayne valentine skin sold more than all other skins combined and was a significant source of revenue for the company. So, now sexy skins are the normal.

also consider: in Dead by Daylight, that Sadako (ring girl) has a super high win rate in the average game, despite having ABYSMAL win rates in pro games. why? sadako is unironically one of the scariest characters in the game and most people play DbD as a low IQ horror game and Sadako scares the fuck out of people.

why did WK get a nerf on some random thing? because the stats show that the people buying skins and playing with friends had problems with that random thing.

conversely, Overwatch did the opposite and tried to make a SUPER competitive CSGO competitor and it died because their shit changes weren't fucking fun to the gold plebs (me).
 
if you want to read some interesting stuff on sorta related topics, the folks making Call of Duty have published a series of blogs and white papers about how they handle issues like matchmaking and the tests they've run to figure out what players of different skill levels actually enjoy versus what they think they want and will loudly demand.
 
Yeah, you also need to consider if you play in immortal level games the heroes with absurd win rates are being played at a level where the players know how to counter them, pick them, ban them.
It either becomes a self-fixing problem or it does eventually get nerfed.
Also remember that Captains mode is a thing and those are the sorta heroes that get banned.

Yeah that's kind of my point too, if you're not going to actively nerf the most broken shit why even bother? The meta will sort itself out until some more tangible or impactful changes can be made. Especially in higher level games, it feels like there's some crazy new build or an approach to a hero I've never seen almost every day in the immortal bracket.

dude this is a huge deal. i was playing a tryhard game as UL when i was getting my dota fix and this morph was just fucking destroying us. I, a dota pro, 10+ years experience, did not know how to counter him because he has a super low pick rate and obtuse gameplay style. I just gave up and asked allchat "how do i counter morph" and someone said "orchid" so i 0IQ bought it and we won

to a lot of new players morph is probably just an uncounterable god in a good player's hands and to pros it's just like ok we gotta get orchid for morph ez clap

Yeah, Morph is a go-to for boosters and smurfs cause he can shotgun combo people and easily get out of control. IIRC you can also get spirit vessel to make his strength morph less effective, but I dunno, it's been a long time since I had a fed Morphling in my games.

I find it strange though that Morph was getting destroyed by Orchid. Since items in Dota can make up for your hero's weaknesses or enhance their strength, he could have gone for Manta to cleanse the silence, at least that is what my enemies always did, they loved being slippery little shits. Or you could always hope to have a competent team that gets a Lotus Orb.

Good point I never really thought about.
Though it is not one that is fixed by say - nerfing Morph, brood, lycan or meepo because then they go from low pick rate to no pick rate and we can all agree that is gay (except Marci, give her a 0% pick rate)

Maybe this is where something like Dota Plus could help? Like you died twice to Morph, a little popup thing is like, "Enemy Morph has No BKB, Reccomended to build a silence" I dunno just spitballin
 
I haven't played dota regularly since before Covid. But a few months ago I hopped on and played turbo mode (I refuse to waste 60 minutes of my life just to get destroyed since idk what I'm doing anymore) not to get a sense of the meta or anything, but just to see what new items there were how heroes have changed, etc. Does anyone else think there is just way too much crap in this game now? Why does everyone have an aghs upgrade? Why is there 10 trillion new items? Idk if anyone else has complained about this in the thread but it just bothered me. Maybe I'm just a boomer and its my fault for being so out of the game for years on end. Perhaps I could have everything memorized just like I did back in 2014-2019. But I can't help but feel this game just has too much junk in it now. Regardless, it just didn't feel the same. Maybe it's good that they add things/shake things up (e.g. changing the map a little) to avoid becoming stale, but idk if I can ever get back in to Dota :(
 
I've been really tempted to jump ship back into Dota to escape Riot's retard pandering and general stupidity. My main problem is I haven't been able to find any really decent guides to re-learn the game with all the changes it's had since I last played. Does anyone have any good resources to get me comfortably jumpstarted? Or do I just suck it up and go in head-first with a guide on the characters I liked and just read everything as I go?

Dota 2 has some built-in tooltips like quick summaries for heroes in the pick phase, but otherwise you're on your own I think. I can't keep up with the game either, it feels like it keeps changing significantly any time I look at it. What the hell are Lotus Pools or Twin Gates???

I'm just gonna put some hours into bot games then, and just re-learn the shit the old fashioned way. Wraith King was my main nigga and from what I've seen he's still good.
