Imo, the problem with his kit is that it's trying to do like for or five different things and none of them particularly reliably. His whip is clearly meant to be comboed with the wheel but the fear duration is abysmal and the fully charged radius is small. As a pseudo-stun it's unreliable. The only thing I like about it is that it can clear camps and waves. Escape act is genuinely one of the weirdest abilities I've ever seen. It reminds me of Grimstroke's original Ink Swell. Being unslowable and untargetable is great but I'm not sure why it needs to be confined to the little radius. Impalement Arts is more useful as a slow then as a nuke. It'd be cool if the damage could stack. The wheel is a cool ability and can genuinely cause chaos. Unfortunately the radius isn't that big and its easy to walk away from it. So many of his abilities rely on positioning and the payoff for landing what effectively amounts to two skillshots isn't anything other heroes can already do better.

In short, his disables aren't guaranteed and his save isn't really a save.
It takes them awhile to get a new hero right.

Yeah this is the intended purpose but it's so jank. That means you have to put the enemy team between you and the wheel, then hit them with a fully charged whip to get them to look at it. If it's not fully charged, they will turn around fast enough to avoid getting taunted.
That means throwing that thing out almost point blank as an initiate on a squishy position 5 whose tankiest items are a force staff and a bracer.
I've had fun with him, probably the thrill of playing a new hero for the first time in almost a year, but he is a struggle. I played ten games in a row with him, then switched to Lion for a break and found that my life was way easier and I could impact fights a lot more with a lot less.

I watched a couple of TI games over the weekend and whatever format they're using this time around is fucking awful.
While there have been TIs in the past that did four groups instead of two, I'd imagine it's being done this way this year to cut down on time. The prize pool is puny because Valve are fucking retards and won't put cosmetics in the compendium. Regardless, I don't know why a team who won their group would have to play the bottom finisher in another to determine main event seeding. The one that gets me is Spirit vs Nouns. Spirit can go 6-0 in their bracket, lose a random Bo3 to a dogshit 2-4 NA stack, and get seeded in the lower bracket. Why even have this seeding series? One can easily make a bracket with just the group results. There wasn't even tiebreakers. A team that goes 2-4 has no business going into the upper bracket against a team that goes 6-0. I'm not being a Spirit fanboy, I don't follow the scene. I just want to watch good Dota and this is not good Dota. This is easily the worst TI since TI4.

It is very retarded. However, even as a Spirit enjoyer.... they chose to vs nouns
But yeah, what is the point of group stage then?
Lmao

So I actually didn't catch any of the group stage. It was moving so fast that I thought I was until one of the broadcasts pulled up the playoff bracket. You're telling me the entire point of the group stage was so the winners of each group could choose who they were gonna face in a Bo3? Dude, that's amazingly lame, even worse than the single elim crap CS does. The whole point of the group stage is a gauntlet for consistency - a weak team's one off fluke win over a good team in the groups in a vacuum doesn't have a huge impact on the results.

Yep winning all those games basically meant nothing
You could lose every single group stage and still make it to the upper bracket (to my knowledge), or in the instance we saw - win every game and end up in lower bracket
Actually snooze

A new Hero was announced at TI:

And with TI concluded, congratulations to Team Liquid, as they defeated Gaimin Gladiators in a 3-0 Sweep. 33 becomes the first player to win multiple TIs on different teams, and keeps his 100% Win Rate in TI Grand Final games. (Tundra in 2022, and Liquid in 2024)

Kez looks cool design wise and I like he is coming so soon.
It remains to be seen what he will actually do though.
And shame that Quinn's 5head could not carry them to victory :(

played some dota this week and match qualities are abysmal. even when winning it doesn't feel good. teams are incredibly one sided and nobody feels like they're even trying.

The post-TI-pre-patch season... you are right - it is pretty rough
Though I dunno if you are playing unranked/turbo/ranked. I tend to find ranked is still somewhat ok atm

You mentioned on MATI that you're playing Turbo and that's the mistake you're making. Turbo players are even more braindead subhumans than regular Dota players, the only chance you have at getting on a team with people even partially capable of thought is by playing ranked role queue. Turbo usually isn't even that much faster.

Turbo is both amazing... and terrible at the same time haha
I won't be a puritan and say you should only play one game mode over another, but it really is a different game

I just like that there's less commitment and you can get two games in for one and there's almost zero chance of a game lasting longer than an hour which I find completely unacceptable. I simply do not have the time to commit to a match for 90 minute blocks uninterrupted.

I got dota in the beta. I was playing league in early seasons by recommendation and I thought that it sucked. When I heard valve was making a game based off the original Warcraft mod League copied from, I was rigorously trying to get into it and I considered that the real game that league was just a cheap copy of.

I really miss the early system of no ranked, one game mode, hidden MMR. Everyone was playing the same game with no player base split and I had some truly exhilarating games. Sweaty players in premades just played Captains Draft. I was a huge NP one trick and this was before TI1 so when Admiral Bulldog rat dotto'd TI I was actually super into it.

I was so one trick about NP I would take notes about super niche item counters for hard counters like Spirit Breaker. This was also back when jungle was a thing and you had this whole meta about camp clears and counter jungling. The only character I couldn't stand and loathed was Tinker.

The game feels so different now and the big difference is just how players don't seem to give a fuck. I assume anyone who cares even a little about winning just plays ranked. But I don't want to play ranked. I don't want to place in some low bracket because I exclusively play solo queue, and almost always position 4, and then have to work the game like my fourth job to get to a rank I feel is appropriate for a twelve year veteran of the game. Because I know that's what will happen and it doesn't sound fun. I remember trying to get out of silver in league and out of gold in overwatch and it is the most miserable way to play any game. I have never played ranked in dota that I can remember.

I don't know what server you queue on but Europe was always complete ass with terrible Russian and Ukrainian Russian Dota players being completely awful both at the game and playing as a team. I haven't played in years so I can only assume it's worse than it was since anyone who isn't hopelessly addicted stopped. Atleast you get to dodge the Peruvian and Brazilian waste of times.

Yeah im not trying to be some ardent ranked defender and I agree completely everything was better when it was just one pool
(Though I like Ranked roles, being guaranteed to get my role and not fight Mao's greatest soldier for it is nice)

There are some disgusting sweaty stacks that play 5 man turbo. Here we call them the Tubo-Rune death squads. But in general yeah, people will care less (:_(

But a team game is gonna be completely dependent on your team mates. If you have only ever played solo I highly recommend just finding a retard stack to Q with.
You might find yourself enjoying it alot more 🤷‍♂️

I play way too irregularly to stack again. In beta where I would literally just lay on the floor with my laptop for 20 hours straight until my ribs hurt, I would be in stacks. Today I'll switch between a game and programming very rapidly.

Fair, but you should consider trying to do what a buncha my mates all do - you throw out the invites. Give people a minute max to respond and then just Q anyway
Worst case scenario is your standard
Best case you get at least one confirmed E*glish speaker who you know will try/shoot the shit with you

I've tried standard again and I just can't fucking stand it. The game's over in early game. When you're 5-10 you're not coming back. The game ends at 50 minutes with a score of 25-50. There's no point. Once the game hits 5 minutes and you're that far behind there's no coming back, you're just trapped at gunpoint in with 4 faggot retards for a half an hour more at least. The lack of a surrender option makes standard mode completely inaccessible to people with shit to do. When you're UP, you can't actually finish the game. It's like they thought making all buildings have huge armor and health pools that the game would be delayed long enough for the losing team to cumback, but there's no comeback. It doesn't happen.

Also, I don't know exactly what they did to Hoodwinked, but she's ruined. She's not fun to play. She has no survivability. She has no lethality. It's actually heartbreaking playing her because I one tricked her to a gold badge and now it's just like playing with a limp cock.
