🐮 Lolcow Doug Jackson / SV Seeker - Boomer hubris personified, an incompetent lunatic's dreams slowly crumbling to dust because of his own poor decisions.

More like SV Leaker, am I right?

Sorry but I can't pass up a "good" dad joke.

My guess is diesel.
I wonder how many gallons he lost?
At roughly $5/gallon that could not have been cheap.
Well it will seem cheap compared to the fines he will be looking at.

Granted it could be motor oil, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid or knowing Doug somthing extra hazardous that has no businesses being on a boat.

The "fake" photo just got posted by Doug on the Facebook page...

And apparently someone visited him...

He leans in hard on sucking up to the Coast Guard.

They must've had an epic coming to Jesus with him if he went and purchased life jackets and fire extinguishers and oil absorbent mats. Plus, he's giving the appearance of being contrite!
The coasties don’t play around. They likely did an inspection while they read him the riot act.

I’m wondering what happened to the professional crew that was with him. I have nothing to back up this theory but I my gut feel is that they were hired by the documentary team.

Doug has put out calls for crew in the past. I don’t know if he’s had anyone regular or hired on yet, but we don’t see anyone consistently in his videos. It mostly seems to be older retired guys and young men that hop on for a week or two.

I know pretty much nothing about boats, welding, or engines, but I know more now than I did before I read this thread.

Fascinating, funny as hell, crazy boomer bullshit, this was a great time waster.

Just hope that when the SV Scrap Heap sinks, capsizes, or explodes or whatever, that no one else is hurt or gets hurt trying to help this idiot.

Doug is successfully "sailing" now with no perceptible force acting on his sails.
At this rate 3/3 sails raised might be expected some time around April.

The man is feeling rather triumphant.

Howdy Super Fans! What is that smell? Could it be crow in the oven? She can actually ghost. I never expected that. So is there anything you losers have been right about? Hear is to sand in your crotch. : ) Maybe this is a calling for you folks to actually get off the couch, find a sense of humor and enjoy some of your life? It's shorter than you can imagine. - Doug Jackson

I wonder what the community thinks about his modern Qing Junk just boomering in the middle of a commercial river?
I wish I knew more about sail design. Something about how those sails are placed looks wrong. I’m sure Doug did his usual research and consultation with experts before shoving masts and sails wherever on his boat.

Well he chose a junk rig because it's simple and low maintenance so there's that. Nevermind the clown show that is the single winch in the pilot house and the godawful tangle of lines leading to it.

Instead of enjoying his magnificent sailing vessel by doing a bit of actual sailing and not merely drifting with the current, Doug finds it a better use of his time arguing with anons and condemning family.

Man, I found this guy organically on YT a few months ago, skipped through A couple videos and thought thst this guy seemed in over his head but was interesting, In any town on the Missouri/Mississippi River I think "how hard would it be to take a boat all the way down to the gulf" is a question thwt comes up, so I had some buy in. I've mostly been scrubbing through the new stuff always intending to fully catch up later, and I never really realized how fucked from the getgo this guy is.

Reading the OP has taken my opinion of this from "inspiring bad idea" to "this guy is a dangerous idiot and I hope the inevitable horrible accident only kills him". I'm surprised one of his accidents in the river hasn't started a huge crack in the hull already.

Shame on you for falling victim to the corrupting squawks of online haters who never make anything and who were probably raised by their mothers. How could you harden your heart so quickly when all you see of Doug is a big toothy smile and a friendly attitude towards all he meets?

Sup toobs, didnt see this brought up yet buuuuuut in his sailing trials it's pretty evident that when the sails catch wind his boat spins in circles. The keels are probably way too shallow and too light comparatively to be of any use. Would explain his constant issues defying the current.
Moving at a single knot doesn't give you much steering authority, hence why Doug motored through every tack during his "trials" as evident from AIS data. He then swore off sailing entirely so he could muck about with the endless rigamarole of reinventing and fucking up things that far more capable and experienced people have already developed well known solutions for.
