Down the Rabbit Hole / Fredrik Knudsen

Edit: this is modest and cozy as hell, the Beethoven's 4th symphony of his output. A small-scale story about a weirdo and a strange situation.
The videos about shit I never would have learned about otherwise are the best. Especially ancient history like the hoarder brothers. It's a documentary on things that documentaries never cover, revealing perhaps a side of humanity you never usually see without being exploitative about it like some of those television shows treat the subject. Fredrik has a knack for treating the participants as people first, sideshow freaks second. Not out of an obligation towards preserving dignity, but preserving truth.

I did a quick search on Facebook, the lady behind the cat cafe is still online, and still sperging out and arguing with people. Probably worth a few laughs.
Someone should make a thread on her. It would be the first time a YouTube doc caused a thread, rather than the other way around.

His latest piece is great as usual, and I'm glad it came out so quickly. His work is impeccable. I also love his live reading of Empress Theresa. #Don'tbeNorman

She does lolcow stuff but she's not worth a thread imo. She just seems like a sad old crazy cat lady that doesn't know how to manage a business or people. Honestly, the video bummed me out towards her antics more than anything and I thought the w.eens in the FB thread comments were just poking her into increasingly unstable behavior. Don't get me wrong, Diane did some horrible, shitty things and deserves to get dunked on for her awful personality. But I guess a part of me sympathizes with her having her dream ruined.

Edit: Also LOL the Kathleen lady isn't perfect either. Poly AND into pet-play. Diane was 100% wrong for exposing that private shit on FB but those quirks are textbook cringe fodder.

Personally, I loved his video on The Final Fantasy House. I heard about the incident before, but I never knew the full story and the sheer scope of it all until I saw Knudsen's video on it.

That's my favorite video of his so far, it's a nostalgic snapshot of internet crazy in the 2000s, back when it was kind of charming.

Specifically female lunacy, before "MUH PATRIARCHY! MUH RAPE CULTURE!" and all that shit, stuff like girls thinking JRPGs are real just seems quaint and charming.

The new vid was more sad than funny imo. I feel bad for everyone on all sides, even if the lady's a nut.

i agree

the whole time im thinking,

i should really laugh at this random crazy broad whos roleplaying as cats on her failing businesses facebook and whos slowly driving herself insane

and on the other hand i think she truly just wanted to help all these homeless cats but shes just to exceptional and out of her depth to run a buisness like this.

probably should have just volunteered at a shelter and pet kittens for socialisation all day

This video was fascinating not only because the whole thing was a shitshow on all sides but because its one of the only cases where the drama was relegated to Facebook. Twitter's become a cesspit for this kind of thing so it was refreshing to see drama spring up on a site with no character limit.

What frustrated me was her complete unwillingness to cooperate with the organizations who would have given her the cats if she just followed what they said. Instead she got all high and mighty and refused to acquiesce every step of the way.

You can tell she wanted to help these cats, but she didn't want to compromise and that got on my nerves.

Then there was the suicide attempt and I came right around to pity again.

I don't think she was initially "unwilling" to cooperate with the pet shelters, it's just that she flat out didn't have the money to do what was needed to get them to go along with it. The fact that she blamed them for it instead of admitting she was in over her head, though, was all on her. Someone on there, I think a former employee, mentioned that she was an alcoholic, which would make sense. Most of her behavior is pretty consistent with how an alcoholic would deal with adversity: blame, hostility, wild mood swings, and, well, obviously the suicide attempt.

Most hilarious part of that was when she tried to clarify that she had more than one boyfriend but said she wasn't having multiple sex partners or some shit like that.

Like, what, are you having sex with one of them and completely blueballing the other?

I don't think of any Fredrik Knudsen's videos are meant to be funny. He has a pretty sober documentary style and any humour is largely his deadpan reading of the subject material like "MEOW. MEOW. PURR!!" If anything he has a talent for underplaying the most ridiculous moments in a given narrative - see Rajneeshpuram and the cartoonishly bumbling incompetence of the cult's second-in-command.

But the people and events at hand are usually pretty depressing.

Yeah, his ability to present even the craziest bullshit in a serious manner is one of his biggest strengths. He's better than a lot of "professional" documentarians in that regard. It makes him fairly unique on YouTube since most creators don't even try to stay impartial, and it also lets him cover topics that drama channels would never touch.
