Make sure they also screen her for hyperthyroidism, another common disorder in cats.
I second this! My other cat has hyperthyroidism and we caught it after noticing a dramatic drop in weight despite the fact that he eats a lot. He's on topical medication now, twice daily, and is doing much better (as well as a 16 year old siamese cat with arthritis that sounds like he's spent years at sea can be, anyway)

Yeah, my Egg was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and it freaked me out because I just lost a cat a few months prior.

My vet gave me an oral medication for her. But that's bitch to deal with because Egg isn't great with oral medication. Very recently I just ponied up like $3-4k to have her get radioiodine treatment for it. If it works (and it's got like an 95% success rate), it's basically a full cure.

Egg's still radioactive for like a week and I have to take special precautions. But she does seem to be gaining weight and generally in better spirits.

Weight loss is the big issue with hyperthyroidism, but it can also cause cardiac problems and other stuff.

Sweetest and foodiest calico in the flesh. She also likes to sleep on fluffy blankets and with me and my wife. My lovely chicken nuggie.

Some recent photos of my Baby Bean:

I have also been taking care of a cute little stray called Misty. She was abandoned by old neighbours, but she's a tough little cookie. She has slept in the bed with me occassionally, but she still needs to get used to house sounds and human handling. Hopefully she'll get more domesticated as time passes; Baby Bean only got more and more affectionate as she got older and is now a full time snuggle bug as a nearly 15 year old.

Claudia has perked up greatly since being sick! Yes I know she looks mad as hell, she always looks like that.

She's up and about and has her appetite back, is making poops, happily getting belly rubs, etc. We're still closely monitoring how she's doing and if she gets sick again we'll take her to the vet ASAP. We did have a family talk about whether this sickness was possibly The End, seeing as she's a 16 year old cat. While we all held back tears, Claudia glared at us like she was disgusted so I wonder if she decided to recover out of sheer stubbornness.

Local stray, pretty cute but filthy. Very very skittish, even more so than some other strays around here, had a couple encounters but it only gets close if it's desperate for food after a few days. Wish it would get more comfortable around people.

If I don't let him into the bathroom, he scratches at the door until I do, and then uses it to his advantage that I cannot escape him.
If I'm going up the stairs and he needs attention, he attacks me through the bannister at the top of the stairs and then does victory laps up and down the hallway. Evil basterd :eli:
