"Doxing" in 2025

In the last year especially, the word doxing has become popularly realigned from the second definition (which originated online in the 2000s) to the first (which was popularized by journos).

It wasn´t a realignment, they were just conflated. We can change the term but I assure you phonebooking will still be characterized as and lumped with doxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxing as now the populist rightoids that were basically the last bastion on our side - when it was about trannies or any of their enemies - flipped.

The term retard used to default to exceptional individual back in the day. For one that's actually active, the term "Don't touch le poo" defaults to pozz load my neghole. There are active word and term filters on the forum. You just haven't been told they exist or forgot they exist.

Its not even about us doing anything illegal. Its about the words you are using attracting law enforcement.

IE, Imagine if the word "photobomb" was just "bomb". Might get you in trouble if you say, "Im gonna bomb everyone at comic con".

So if law enforcement thinks doxxing is targeted harassment and not just disclosing publicly available information, then using the word dox will attract attention from Law enforcement regardless of whether or not a law was even broken.

I agree that a word filter may need to be used if just to "fix" older posts from Farmers who aren't here anymore (in case crazies freak out over old posts) and those of us who are creatures of habit.

I know how much you hate pings @Null I still remember when you word filtered word retard to "exceptional individual" for a brief time in early 2020, consider using the word filter if users agree on it, set up a poll if you want. Rolling back word filter would be smart to avoid legal repercussions.

I don't think this should necessarily be policed in a strict way, but maybe mods could encourage users to remove personal info if it's unrelated or incorrect, for the sake of both etiquette and accuracy.

I rarely provide PII in my posts, and when I do, it's usually referred to as "contact information" or similar. Maybe a good complement to Null's request would be a checkbox on the report form labelled "this post contains inaccurate, irrelevant, or unmasked personal information." Not something to be punished, more of a notification that inappropriate PII should probably be edited out.

I prefer something that's made up of concrete descriptive terms, like infodump. Is it flashy or funny? No. But it directly describes what's actually happening without the need for explanations or definitions.

From the list I like de-anon. But Op-dox or info doxing might be a way to differentiate the term, since doxing has become very muddled, broad and vague to what it means. The term doxing is here to stay so maybe categorizing or differentiating the term would be one solution, or an easier way to adjust the lingo or word useage here. Making it more specific would help, info-dox as a term implies information only.

Agreed. Documenting works, it’s accurate and the meaning usage is clear. It’s the term doxing originated from, this just takes it backs to its origin/original meaning and definition before it got turned into sexier internet slang.

Since the term documents got turned into dox, maybe this could be “mented” because “docing” doesn’t work which is the x was inserted. Also most of the ppl KF documents are demented so it lends itself to puns as a bonus.

Whatever it is it's going to need a good noun form too. For example "I got [persons] dox" or "I found [persons] dox". A lot of the alternatives don't seem to have this.

I got their unmask? - I understand this at least?

I would be interested to know what noun the troons use with unmasking. I also like the ironic quality of "taking back" a word from the troons since like most leftists they inherently corrupt language.
