They already did that back in the classic series multiple times with companions from the past and future and alien companionsSo, I've always had this question, but how come they never did a companion that wasn't from modern day? Like maybe a girl from ancient greece or rome, or medieval france, or germany or even medieval england, etc.
At one point they cockteased us with the lesbian viking chick and that french prostitute but they didn't go through with it.
I get that the doctor is (or rather used) to be there for men to self insert and women to fawn over and the companion used to be there for women to self insert, but men don't have trouble empthaising with a time traveling alien shapeshifter from the future, would it really kill the female audience that much to self insert to a farmgirl from the past or something?
IIRC they did that with Katrina. Then killed her off in the next serial because it would be too much of a pain in the ass to have to explain stuff to her and thought a past companion would be boring to the audience. They wouldn't try again until Leela. While she was a primitive she wasn't from the past per se. She was a descendant of the survey team of some sort of space mission that ended up stranded on some planet due to the Doctor's meddling. Almost all of the Doctor's companions have been present day humanoids or humanoid aliens. So, I've always had this question, but how come they never did a companion that wasn't from modern day? You're forgetting Jamie the Scottish highlander who was companion with Zoe, a girl from the future who was part of a space station crewIIRC they did that with Katrina. There was also Victoria but she was pretty useless and screamed all the time.
What? Victoria was ace. She was from the Victorian era and her interplay with Jamie who was an uncouth Scottish highlander was one of my favourite dynamics. There was also Victoria but she was pretty useless and screamed all the time.
And it's cool to see her again with Sarah-Jane Smith and the Brigadier in the direct-to-video movie "Downtime".What? Victoria was ace. She was from the Victorian era and her interplay with Jamie who was an uncouth Scottish highlander was one of my favourite dynamics.
Leela was always my favourite companion.Leela of the Sevateem (Survey Team) has been mentioned. Always fun but especially so when the Doctor takes her to England.

I bet you remember that scene where a woman's dead father was being turned into a Dalek. Begging her to kill him as his voice became ever more shrill and Dalek-like. Scary stuff. My only memories of Doctor Who are from late 80s/early 90s YTV. Daleks were creepy.

Because he was a dood. Screened out by the perception filter. He and the 2nd Doctor definitely spitroasted every female companion. You're forgetting Jamie the Scottish highlander who was companion with Zoe, a girl from the future who was part of a space station crew
Hard disagree. I almost went deaf listening to that bitch. When I went through that era most of her episodes were missing and the only thing available was a soundtrack so there was no eye candy bonus to balance out her screaming. What? Victoria was ace.
Very disappointing nudes.Leela was always my favourite companion.
Eh. Can't have been worse than Mel. Am I watching Doctor Who or am I sitting in the dentist's chair?Hard disagree. I almost went deaf listening to that bitch.
