Mel was surprisingly likeable in the Big Finish audios. Toned down a lot.Eh. Can't have been worse than Mel. Am I watching Doctor Who or am I sitting in the dentist's chair?
Aaaaaaaaand I'm right back behind the sofa again.

YouTube was how I found Classic Who and really fell in love with the series. Years ago I was able to watch the entirety of the original 1963 "The Daleks" serial on YouTube, though now that's basically impossible to get away with.I bet you remember that scene where a woman's dead father was being turned into a Dalek. Begging her to kill him as his voice became ever more shrill and Dalek-like. Scary stuff.
Tried to find it on YouTube but BBC are pretty aggressive about killing unapproved clips.
That was the case with the Sixth Doctor himself, Big Finish really improved the characterization for everyone.Mel was surprisingly likeable in the Big Finish audios. Toned down a lot.
And that include a story where the Sixth Doctor meet the Brigadier in the Spectre of Lanyor Moor. That story would have been a good plotline for the tv series. That was the case with the Sixth Doctor himself, Big Finish really improved the characterization for everyone.
So, I've always had this question, but how come they never did a companion that wasn't from modern day? Like maybe a girl from ancient greece or rome, or medieval france, or germany or even medieval england, etc.
Idunno, seems pretty shortsighted, they failed at writing an old timey companion like twice so they never tried it again in a 50+ year run?As someone else already said, they've done that before. Katrina was a roman slave girl the Doctor took on as a companion and writers immediately found the character needing to have to be explained how modern tech/society worked so tedious and annoying, that they killed her off halfway through the next serial by blasting her out of an airlock.
When they tried it again, with the Second Doctor and Jamie/Victoria, they basically said "fuck it" and wrote them like present day folk. Jamie only had culture shock from being thrusted into the future for like one story (The Faceless Ones) while Victoria only mentioned being timelost twice; in Tombs of the Cybermen and in her last serial, where she basically gets adopted by a childless couple.
Rest in power KatarinaHer name was Katarina. Not Katrina.
Poor girl gets tricked into stepping into a time machine, ends up in a futuristic nightmare world beyond her comprehension, and dies by being sucked out of an airlock. The least you people can do is at least spell her name correctly.
This is meant to be for the actual show? I ask because it feels like kids supplementary content for the Sarah Jane Adventures, which was in turn kids supplementary content for Doctor Who.So I know very little about Doctor Who as a whole, but this seems like the sort of thing everyone who hate.

Shit I thought the show would at least get canceled first before retreading Dimensions in TimeThis is meant to be for a big event, for an anniversary and it looks like the cheapest shit I've seen in a long time.
It's supposed to be some giant crossover thing between Big, Finish, BBC Audio, TItan comics, and everyone else with a Doctor Who license. I don't think it's confirmed yet that it's going to cross into the actual show. I've seen several people comment that it looks like more like a porn parody than anything official. This is meant to be for the actual show? The CBBC could have made better a better video and they still use the same props and wardrobe now that they did back in 1992.
This is the 2005 trailer for the Doctor Who reboot:

Sure, it's dated, sure it's clunky in places, the CGI work is a bit of a mess and the whoever edited the TARDIS interior shots had been watching (or snorting) too much Top Gear but it's still charming and it was engaging for the time. Whatever the fuck this Doom's Day thing is it's flat, boring, totally disinteresting and worst of all, it looks cheap. This is meant to be for a big event, for an anniversary and it looks like the cheapest shit I've seen in a long time.
Don't say something like that! With a porn parody, they put effort into it, you shouldn't slander it by comparing it to the BBC!It's supposed to be some giant crossover thing between Big, Finish, BBC Audio, TItan comics, and everyone else with a Doctor Who license. So I saw this monstrosity posted above and thought it must be some weird obsessive fan thing. Stood about 20 seconds, realised it wasn't going anywhere and moved on.It's supposed to be some giant crossover thing between Big, Finish, BBC Audio, TItan comics, and everyone else with a Doctor Who license. Very disappointing nudes.
Launching later in 2023, this standalone trans media series will allow Doctor Who fans to follow Doom, the Universe’s greatest assassin, as she travels through all of time and space in pursuit of the Doctor to save her from the ever-approaching Death. She only has 24 hours and a vortex manipulator to save herself before her fate is sealed forever.Am I to take it that this clip is actually official in any capacity? Good Lord, I'm glad I stopped watching.
Yea its pretty stupid. Like the three year rule.Idunno, seems pretty shortsighted, they failed at writing an old timey companion like twice so they never tried it again in a 50+ year run?

This is like the promo blurb for a 90s Todd MacFarlane product, except with Downs syndrome. The curse of all English women.

Stand-up comedian, comedy sketch artist and actor Sooz Kempner will be the face and voice of Doom, and a number of fan-favourite characters will feature along her journey.
Russell T Davies says: “DOOM’S DAY is a huge new adventure for the whole Doctor Who universe - starring the brilliant and hilarious Sooz Kempner as an intergalactic assassin. Her adventures will span comics, audio, a novel, video games stories and more, expanding the world of Doctor Who into brand new territories. Beware the Doom’s Day, it’s coming for us all.”
Doom’s Day will kick off on Doctor Who digital channels later this year followed by products from Doctor Who Magazine, Titan Comics, Penguin Random House, East Side Games, Big Finish and BBC Audio, each telling a section of Doom’s story.
Each partner will create their own adventures for DOOM’S DAY, each focusing on one of the 24 hours Doom has left on the clock. The standalone stories will also have an overarching narrative that will play out before the finale which will release on Doctor Who digital channels.

I thought they had Disney money now? How do the effects keep getting worse? And I'm willing the bet this "universe's best assassin" never actually kills anyone. She just doesn't seem like she'd have it in herSo I know very little about Doctor Who as a whole, but this seems like the sort of thing everyone who hate.

I rather liked Sarah Jane Smith, but Leela was plenty okay.Leela was always my favourite companion.
