havent watched it yet but would like the thread's thoughts. it seems like itd be pretty good, i dont even mind it being a lefty so long as there's no like gay ass "im not a chud disclaimers." like we know youre not a chud! review the damn product
You say that while I haven't seen anyone talk about this one.

Some fucker I know send me this and I watched it to kill time. You can skip the first 27 minutes because is the leafest leaf that ever leafed (and even bitches about people mistaking him for a burger) laying the groundwork for his review, saying that his cringiest predictions came true (Whoniverse, Disney acquisition, Tennant being back), reminding us The Last Jedi culture war (the moment I saw Mauler and Quinton I was about to tap out) and being butthurt people thought his opinions were crap and called him a burger over them.

The actual review is a leftie admitting he doesn't like something and walking over eggshells to say it isn't entertaining nor woke enough (he brought up Star Wars because of the whole themes vs characters spiel). He isn't by any metric the worst person I've heard takes on Who from but what drove me to keep watching the video was that back-and-forth of 'is he going to make me roll my eyes to the back of my head'. For example, depending on how far you get on the runtime you may get the impression he isn't sold on Gatwa but by the last episode on the batch he is glazing him.

Verdana is mainly known for Breaking Bad, at that for his review of Slippin' Jimmy and The Moment Walter became Heisenberg. Both are good but on the latter it stops being a piece exclusively on the show halfway through and becomes a piece on sigma males.

lol ofc.
Read? what do I look like? some kind of nerd? ;)

Almost through it. Not bad on the whole (though you're right, there's almost too much "disclaimer" at the beginning). He had a great segment about how much "space babies" had in common with "end of the world." I think he has some potential.
yea i actually found him because i was recommended some of his skits. theyre kinda reddity but not all that bad, so it seems the guy kinda knows his stuff writing-wise

The fitzroy club shit was actually a pretty good anaylisis of the internal nature of the show, it has basically been in a holding pattern since the revival and actively rejects new talent because it doesn't confirm to what RTD and crew sees as valuable to who.
he brings up how all the shit in the modern era (especially the disabled shit) is probably Russell coping for his own "problematic" episodes like Cyprus industries or Casandra, which is fair enough because I genuinely think brexit/his husband dying brain broke him.
also him running defense for gaimen when before the accusations came out and now he would probably have to retract his statements is peak irony.
While we're sharing vids, here's stubagful's reviews of the last season.

Stu is peak Whotube, no comparison

Why did they redesign sutekh into generic cgi dog monster that has other people shoot sand for him? I mean aside from the "killing him by walking him" shit. Doesn't even have the green glowing eye beam shit he's known for. This is literally a completely different character named and treated as if he's a returning villain like the Toymaker guy was which sucks ass. Guess it's too much budget effort making a guy in some foam prop egyptian style space armor and having the original guy dub over the footage now according to didney funding despite it costing a lot more time to make the cgi dog monster guy. I didn't even know about the sutekh redesign fuckery till now somehow, probably because I don't have disney+ and I've just fucking tuned out of a lot of dr.who talk shit online save for on occasion. You really wanted cgi just have a cgi head for when his helmet's off. Like it'd make more sense if the dog monster was just some shit sutekh summoned into existence rather than just being a redesign of him.

EDIT: I just saw the clip of the sutekh reveal. How the fuck does the doctor instantly realize the cgi dog monster is him? Like it's treated he always was looking like this when he clearly fucking wasn't. OG sutekh's head was closer to a fleshy version of one of those stylized egyptian statues under the helmet he had. I think the speech and recognition thing would have been more impactful if it was LITERALLY the og sutekh but modernized with some greebling and panels in his armor/robes in a manner similar to how the Daleks got updated in "Dalek".

The little brief flashback where he's cgi dog monster man and makes himself invisible over the tardis is so fucking ridiculous lmao.

I knew nothing about the latest season until listening to this video during a car trip: "Dot and the Bubble" sounds similar in high concept to an extremely un-PC and disturbing short story by gigachud Zero HP Lovecraft, "God-Shaped Hole" (I can't find a digital copy at the moment because it looks like ZHPL pulled it from the web, but I'm sure it's been archived. Don't go looking for it as a casual read unless you have a lot of patience for the under-edited, and a tolerance for the grotesque in every sense of the word.)

While family resemblances are inevitable when critiquing social media via overblown dystopia, a Who episode summary deigned to mention the AR machines even "direct their movements", which is straight from the ZHPL story, and unlike the Weeping Angels vs. SCP-173, ZHPL's story precedes this episode by enough years to be a plausible inspiration for it.

I'm not going to watch the episode, though, so I'm probably assuming too much about similarities.

The only thing I've seen that's notable in it is there's a character who appears for 3 entire seconds named "dr. Pee" who's implied to be a man who went to medical school solely to give people who call him advice on when a good time to pee is. I didn't even know the character was from a dr. who episode when I started seeing people posting images of him out of context online. It makes sense why people were claiming "the new doctor in doctor who is named dr. pee" now though.

RTD: I wanted to get people to question why they did not notice the racism
Me: Because I grew up watching your original run of Doctor Who where you taught everyone that it was bad to fixate on the stuff that would have made me notice.

that and I honestly can't tell what is Russell T. Davis boomer shit at this point and legitimate social commentary when it comes to episodes he writes.

I retract any claim to a likelihood of inspiration, that's way too stupid to be lifted straight from "The God-Shaped Hole".
Ok I was legit kind of curious because your description sounded interesting while the episode... pretty dumb.

I am very much amussed by the shift people have had to RTD is ruining the series and how dare he and how dare he completely change everything while ignoring the fact that he did completely rebuild the series from the ground up. If anyone should be able to lay claim to Who being theirs it is RTD for better and worse.
RTD's original run was mostly bad, though. That's not even through the lense of time--it was genuinely bad at the time it was being made. Farting aliens, dumb politics, brain dead stories, gross fetish shit.. I could go on.

Ratings and money, fandom all say otherwise to the majority of people especially the majority complaining now however. But that was not my point.

Point was however that the revival series completely rebuilt Who from the ground up. And the majority did not care about all the changes to the Legacy that resulted from it. So RTD isn’t ruining a legacy at this point that isn’t his to ruin.

I haven't watched Who since Jodie Whittaker took over, barring one Christmas special about an immortal Dalek scout. That was bad. And part of a Christmas special set in ancient China which was worse. But I do occasionally stick my nose in this thread to see the drama and if that late Nineties CGI dog thing is supposed to be Sutekh and that acting by the Doctor and his companions is representative, then things are worse than I could have imagined.
