The Unquiet Dead sucks balls. "Ooh, let's make these ghosts actually not ghosts, but survivors of, you guessed it, the Last Great Time War, who somehow shed their corporeal forms, 'cos we should milk the Doctor's PTSD for all it's worth."

The best thing about the episode was the Doc wanting Charles Dickens' autograph.

But at the time in context this is only the third episode. The LGTW has only been mentioned in passing in the premiere and that's it.

I'd say it's less "milking" it and more establishing the concept. I mean it would be pretty silly to mention the doctor having survived a great war and have NO PTSD.

I forgot it was that early on.

Dear god, the show is so fucking dead that this thread has devolved into a hunt for some obscure 2005 piece of paper merchandise because it bears the name Sneed.

As for my currentnow opinion on old-nu-who....ok fuck it the original RTD Era, I can surmise it succinctly as above average childrens entertainment thats enjoyable enough for parents who were exposed to the Classic Era, but assuming you are not a literal child and are not high on nostalgia for any era of Doctor Who then my most charitable opinion is that it struggles to stay mid even when you make allowances for how the show has dated in terms of effects and topical shit.

As for the pozzhole showrunner himself, the most kind things I can say about RTD is that he was not quite as fucking shit with canon and running storylines as Moffat, and he was not quite as fucking shit at....well everything as Chinballs and....yeah thats about it.

Even at his "height" he was overly high on the smell of his own piss and was gleefully sewing the seeds of the cancers we saw kill the franchise from muhrelationship melodrama and the general "everyone wants to fuck everyone else" cringe, never ending super-duper setting destroying crises to perpetual shocking revelations as to the Doctor's past to crowbarring in topical references in a way that makes currentyear simpsons look downright restrained

Also I would like to apologise....as due to the ongoing effects of the dimensional merge I myself am personally responsible in part for this new epoch of cringe in the show's history when I made this post back in mid 2021....

A few months later we got the news.....my only relief is my surity that once RTD loses interest and fucks off elsewhere there will be absolutely fucking nothing stopping the show from returning to cancelation as it should have stayed in and after the 90s.

In fairness, it’s not currently on air and there is not any talk about it. It is not really that the show is dead (although, it is)

I get the feeling current doctor will end up regretting his role as much as Jodie did. I fully rxpect all the cast to not so subtly start complaining about things soon.

How dead do you think he can make it in 4-5 years? Dead enough never to return?

You got the feeling from Tennant, Smith and Capaldi that they were all very grateful to get the role and, in spite of some of the scripts, loved doing it. I don't think you're going to get that kind of love and appreciation from any of the checkbox Doctors.

In my opinion the biggest problem with the first RTD era is that it is more drama than sci fi. The main pushing force of the show is the drama of Doctor's past, his relations with his companions, the relations of companions with each other etc.

Best stories from that era like Blink, Silence in the Library and Midnight were stories that had a good sci fi backbone before trying to do anything else.

Honestly I can accept stories that have messages I don't agree with as long as there is an interesting concept in the episode. Ghost Light and the whole of Seventh Doctor's era was written by a bunch of homosexual commie Brits but the sci fi is good enough for me to enjoy the episodes regardless.

As long as Russell T Davies still holds the reins, he'll continue to find an excuse to insert some gay shite into Doctor Who. It started with Queer as Folk, then carried on from there.

@LanternsNSongs The Greatest Show in the Galaxy is one that sticks out in my mind, when I used to watch classic reruns. The 7th Doctor is my second favourite incarnation behind the 3rd. And that reminds me, apparently, in Twice Upon a Time, they were gonna have Sean Pertwee show up, instead of David Bradley's 1st Doctor.

Oop. No, I was wrong. I was misremembering this article, 'cos I tend to get bored and skim-read crap: https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-f...-he-was-asked-to-be-in-last-years-doctor-who/, and I read this Reddit post around the same time, which I agree with: https://www.reddit.com/r/gallifrey/comments/fldxkz/it_should_have_been_the_third_doctor_in_twice/

I wonder of Rose was secretly RTD’s self insert character to live out his Doctor fucking fantasies. Had he revived the show today instead of 2005 I’d bet Rose would have been a guy instead.
I doubt. I doubt very much. I think he might be armed tied into ‘main female companion’.

Um... have you all already forgotten that when RTD returned to the show, he outright made another Rose character? The tranny?

In other words - you're 110% right. We have literal proof - it literally happened a year ago.

My point. I don’t think she was badly written, I think she was written perfectly for a 19yr old chav.
The only time in Series 1 or 2 where Rose Tyler was written well was in the Moffat 2-parter from Series 1. She acted like a completely different character for the entirety of it, probably why it's so fondly remembered.

It's not obscure, you can find it online for pretty cheap alongside all the other cards. may or may not get one sometime, ormight just print out the fucking incredible edit ones @crowabunga posted.

Thanks disney+ exclusivity deal! FUCK YOU!

Not during the points where the script bends over backwards to have people praise her despite her about how great she is while she's doing really stupid shit. Those are just shit writing moments lmao.
