It didn't help that, leading up to the reveal, certain viewers were going like, "Oh, for Christ's Sake, not the half Human thing, like with McGann...!"

To this day, I still have no idea what "the Hybrid" was supposed to be. If I recall correctly, Moffat said in an interview that it was meant to be Clara and the Doctor — which is not what "hybrid" means. That's called a "duo."
Even if you accept that explanation, good luck figuring it out on your own without the internet. The show just forgets the Hybrid was even a thing and never gives a definitive answer.
I swear, Moffat had a special talent for hype and never delivering.

It was Ashildr, that Viking girl/shieldmaiden who was saved by Doc 12, using some nanotechnology. I think it was vaguely referring to her, 'cos, you know, prophecy crap.

I feel like I saw some video saying the hybrid was supposed to be half time lord/half dalek but who knows. I wonder if Moffat chickened out and decided to make Ashildr it on a whim.

I can't be the only one to have noticed Gotwa has the same off-center teeth thing Tom Cruise has. It was really evident on a Facebook ad for the show, in an episode where a fat woman turns into a star. There were a ton of closeups on his manic facial expression "acting". I also hate that shitstain mustache.

If anything it was billed as something Clara and The Doctor would create together until the reveal it was never suggested it was just them.
But then Clara stopped being interesting when it was revealed she wasn’t just Victorian Clara reanimated via memory snow.

He is. But he’s also saying that a lot of people that are bitching now grew up with nuWho mostly and repeats of the Classics but likely just nuWho, which was watched likely with their family.
In essence he is saying a lot of the complainers, himself included, have aged out of the intended demo RTD is targetting and since they don’t have children there is nothing to distract you from the fact you are watching shit.
He’s also saying that the downturn might have a lot to do with tv habbits changing in the last decade. Both in the fact that you can now get it any time and anywhere.
I remember saying during Jodie’s run that moving out of the Christmas Day slot was a terrible idea. Even Smith etc were like ‘i don’t get why they changed times’
And then RTD comes back and teams up with Disney and all of a sudden you don’t have to watch it live anymore. It’s just all available on plus.
As are a billion other things.
What is your little sprog going to want to watch? Back when we all watched it there was very little else.

Holy shit, the amount of gaslighting from this guy (the YouTuber, not you, obviously). Doctor Who isn’t outdated because it never pretended to be fashionable. It’s basically space Sherlock Holmes. It was always a little silly and dorky, but that was part of the charm.
Nobody likes it anymore because the writing is shit. Simple as that. Nobody’s claiming it was ever high art, but at least it used to be fun

I think the thing that got me in Stu’s vid the most was ‘go back and watcg Series 1 without blinders on and you’ll see it was structured like the current run’ and he’s right. But the difference is the farting aliens were actually framed as a threat and The Doctor took them seriously. 15 is so bad that if he was taking his baby alien baddies seriously I could not fucking tell.
Even 13 you can tell when she was taking stuff seriously and she talked and acted like a literal child. What kind of being that is over 12000 years old goes out with ‘tag you’re it?’
Funny thing is he is correct about tv changing and that having an impact as well as the lack of family viewing but he squanders that with how he ends the video.

I think the idea of Russell writing the majority of the shows harms the show at this point and he is spreading himself too thin compared to when he started just writing over half of Season 1

Makes sense. He used to write about 6 episodes of his run and the specials. He is still writing about the same.
The issue I feel is the low episode count. You probably want the showrunner to do the first and last episode to begin and tie up series arcs, the second their is a double bill well you’ve eaten up almost half the series.
The optimistic view is he wanted to write most of this series in order to set tone and the view of the doctor considering the limited number of episodes and that will shit next series.
That fact Moffat wrote the just gone Christmas Special surprises me.
It honestly feels like he does not have the team of writers his original run did or made the call not to bring them in due to limited episode count.

I don't agree, a female doctor will never work. Gomez was fantastic in her role, but the doctor is a specific character that is extremely heavily masculine coded, any attempts to try to pretend he can be played by a woman will always innevitably fall flat.
You need to remember the doctor's core is: A war veteran, a trickster, a professor, a father and a grandfather.
Fathers and mothers are not interchangable. Grandfathers and grandmothers are not interchangable. Male and female professors do not act the same, male and female trickers do not act the same and do not operate by the same rules, and a woman trying to play a weary war veteran is bordering on stolen valor.
Best case scenario a female doctor will act like a male doctor wearing a skinsuit. Worst case... well we already saw how jodie turned out.

i think stu also seems to almost realize that doctor who is essentially done, but that he doesnt want that to be true. he talks about needing to restructure around the streaming model and have a consistent tone, but that's essentially rubbing up against the biggest hurdle for Doctor Who: it's simply not cool to like it anymore
Doctor Who needs to appeal to either kids or young adults, with adults watching it because it's good and nostalgic, because it will never compete with highbrow science fiction on premise alone. However kids and teens are very much hard to get an evergreen property of. Spider-Man I think is something that has been around so long that "oh the kids are still into Spider-Man" isn't being said. However Doctor Who stopped being cool to like in 2013 and that is poison to the youth. Not only is it not cool to like, it's become cool to HATE
You need a complete revamp and reboot on the level of Series 1 or at least 5 in order for it to work again. Buffy style camp doesnt work. Superwholock 2quirky4u fandom pandering doesnt work. Even apeing a cinematic universe doesnt work. Think about what shows connect with the youth: Squid Game, Wednesday, Stranger Things, even fucking Riverdale - and try to get down that type of YA, schlocky-prestige kinda comedic/kinda grim tone

i’d argue both of those in fact work and that’s what the good seasons were.
I like Capaldi but you want to keep the audiance, hot doctor and non gay romance. Current Who has ran so far away from what made the 2005 reboot work it is not even funny.
