I aint made my contempt for Torchwood a secret on this thread, but I suspect that back when it was just a generic TV sci-fi series loosely welded to Doctor Who and thus not having any background to be defiled, it was easier for chinballs's efforts to come accross as just low effort mediocrity.

Assign him shit with longstanding canon and lore though, and shit quickly fell apart even before you factor in how this all took place during peak woke where turning everything and anything into a smug lecture against the xitter-lib boogieman of the day or a tearfully performed masturbatory tribute to muh-diversity was aggressively pushed by the literal tumblr hires who infested the production line if not outright mandated by the higher ups and happily enforced by chinballs.

The end result was always going to be a execrable canon defiling mess with his shitty Power Ranger Villain looking OCs crowbarred in as the super-duper villains behind everything ever and the most abject fanfic tier trash made the Doctor's 100% confirmed backstory thats been overtly a mystery since the classic era. I guess we should count ourselves lucky pre-woke chinballs didnt get his hands on the showrunner role or we would have gotten the Timeless child shit but instead of the OG doctor being a black refugee girl, he would have been a pill popping sexually degenerate date rapist.
What? You don't like Cyberwoman?

So been watching a bunch of people reacting to Dr Who Episodes and I’m reminded that I always thought the idea of young Amy Pond travelling would have been fun.

It should have gone on break when Moffat bowed out.

For all the shit the antiwoke crowd talks about stuff feeling like fanfic etc. The entire reason everything after Moffat struggled was up till then the people writing it had all penned several other shows and written for DW fan publications.

So they knew what they were doing. With Chibnal, sure you had him, but everyone else were randos.

And really, after ending the series by having the doctor meet his first version you kind of have the perfect.

Put it on ice till you can figure some other stuff that can make run for a decade
A Virgin New Adventures renaissance, that's the ticket.
A Wilderness Era 2.0. Give it a decade or two to flush out the arseholes that got their hooks into the series over the last decade and she'll be good as new.

I don’t even think it’s an issue with it being run by dicks. I think it is honestly since 2005 up to 13 it was one constant story and Moffat on his way out closed everything save the Yalyard - who really should have been Peter Capaldi’s 13th Doctor in my mind. The series just needs a fresh new start. Chibs tried that but when that bombed he went back to the lore bucket and Who the Doctor was was the only big thing left. But Moffat had already provided a much better answer - it doesn’t matter, the name is not important.

Not saying there needs to be another time war but there needs to be a gap long enough to give the show a character of mystique again and build up new lore.

Heck, ending a run without a regen and then just starting the next series with a new doctor would probably do it.

Honestly the more I think about it the more I feel that Chibs making infinite doctors might have been an idea of ‘what if we don’t have to go in order?, what if there is a story in the Docs past we want to cover?’

Moffat did it much better with John Hurt as 9. He opened up the entire Time War. And we saw it when Hurt was old. Just cast someone as a younger version

It should be noted that Chinball was ALWAYS reviled as the worst Nu Who writer and Mark Gatis should have taken over for Moffatt, even if it meant a reduced episode count and irregular schedule. Or get someone out of left field to show run (JMS or even Gaiman) and have them do a limited run to try them out.

Also Chinball was a notorious Cartmel Masterplan stan and going the route of a new Doctor being female didn't help things either.

These are supposedly the "bookies favourites" for the next Doctor. Take it with a grain of salt obviously.

>David Tennant
>Lydia West
>Olly Alexander
>Michael Sheen
>Omari Douglas
>Lenny Henry
>Micheala Coel
>T'Nia Miller
>Hugh Grant

And in terms of actual news, the next season drops on April 12th.

And my likely answer is "cancellation". It's insane how far things have fallen since the 50th

Hugh Grant would be the safest pick quite frankly. Though it would be hilarious if they brought back Matt Smith; especially given how RTD's minions snuck in a petty "fuck you" against the Matt Smith run in the colorized War Games.

Any bookie stuff I ignore considering how all of nuWho have either been relative unknowns or people you do not expect, frequently both.

What was that?

Fuck bringing back Tennant again, and fuck any of those other hacks. They should just bring back the 9th doctor. Not Eccleston, the REAL 9th doctor.

Wasn't Hugh Grant in Curse of Fatal Death too? 🤔🤔

CarTmel masterplan would have been better than timeless child. "Guy who founded society somewhat then died and later came back but at the end of the day was still normal guy" while goofy would still be doable in a non lore ruining way. ironically genshin impact kind of did that kind of thing as an actual plot point in natlan but that was like with humans not regenerating aliens. Characters bargaining with death entities to die and then come back ages into the future to see some kind of plan to it's end. Not exactly the same but I wouldn't doubt with the kinds of references int hat game that nobody on the team noticed the similarities.

Bringing Atkinson back as a full doctor is probably one of the few things that can actually salvage doctor who at this point.

Mark Gatis
the only guy worse than chibnall

If they brought back Tennant that'd be hilarious but overall what a pathetic tv series that that is even considered a likely option

Fuck it, make philosophy tube the next doctor. just kill it NOW

>No Hugh Laurie

Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Laurie would be my #1 and #2 choice if I was in charge of bringing the show back from the dead.

Of the given names, Miachel Sheen is probably the best followed by Hugh Grant.

If they pick anyone else from that list appart from those two the show is dead.
