I can't actually watch that clip where I'm at right now. But I was more talking about how the show as a whole has been lately.
Yeah embeds are broke as hell but the actual clip is just the end of time which IS shit but it's shit in a funny and kinda cool way as opposed to a lame and preachy way.

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLE POST: Embeds still broken but I just got reminded due to youtube recommendations about that episode where the doctor encounters a redditor

I haven't watched any Doctor Who after Silence in the Library and haven't kept up with it whatsoever since 13 was announced, what have I missed?
The brief history of modern Doctor Who
-Doctor Who is revived in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and RTD writing. It's a ratings success but Chris leaves because the producers are incompetent
-Tennant replaces him right as the show blows up into appointment television
-RTD forces the Doctor to fall in love with his self insert Rose
-David Tennant and RTD leave during Doctor Who's cultural apex, leaving behind a ton of people who think the show was good because of that specific combo
-Moffat takes over and casts Matt Smith, another young sexyman, to play the Doctor. Series 5 is a success and excellent, but Matt's casting plays it safe
-2011 the show hits tumblr and America like crack on the streets of urban New York
-2013 the big 50th Anniversary special. Eccleston doesnt want to be in it, so the lore is rewritten to create a secret Doctor
-Capaldi takes over and ratings crater because the tumblr audience thinks "ugly old men" shouldnt play the Doctor and start to invent excuses like thinking Moffat is sexist
-They cast a woman to win these people back, all hell breaks loose, Moffat busts his balls trying to keep the christmas special slot that is immediately abandoned
-Whittaker and Chibnall create the worst era of Who so far, every episode hits a new "lowest ever ratings" record, then rewrite the lore so the Doctor was a black girl who created Time Lord society's biggest trait in regeneration
-Whittaker and Chibnall are replaced by Tennant and RTD as a last ditch effort to save the show, but the very first special back is pronoun lectures
-Tennant splits like an amoeba into himself and Gatwa, giving Gatwa a copy of his TARDIS and essentially making the new Doctor not the new Doctor
-each new episode is a lecture of the week: episodes with drag queens, musicals, episodes about racism and the only iredeemable villains are white people, a troon pervert writes an accidentally pro-israel episode and the finales are literal nonsense
-show gets cancelled and then uncancelled and billie piper becomes the new doctor

also during tennant 2 and gatwa's whole timeframe every big season end villain is a returning classic who guy that's either unrecognizable beyond name drop for most of their screentime or turned into a cgi monster (also unrecognizable beyond name drop) that's plan makes 0 sense. The one actually interesting new bad guy with effort behind him is a "god of light" for no real reason other than to hype up the nonsense pantheon subplot that goes fucking nowhere and he fucking dies by the end of his episode in a way that's kinda cool at least.

And also, the entire Moffat era is dominated by his Mary Sue companions who are basically out-Doctoring the Doctor in every way. Matt Smith's run is basically the River Song chronicles, starting with the events that lead to her conception on board the TARDIS by two Very Special companions - the Girl Who Grew Up Next To The Crack In The Universe and the Eternal Soldier who keeps dying but not really - which, by Moffat logic, makes her part Timelord, and spilling over into Tennant's and Capaldi's runs. River is succeeded by Clara who ends up inserting herself into the Doctor's time stream, so she can out-Doctor every Doctor that ever was and will be.

They started something interesting with clara's weird thing of "I've run into people identical to this person before this is the same bitch that died via dalek gay baby jail while I was still with amy and rory what the fuck is happening" and then flopped it into some real dogshit REALLY quickly. It took her till like after her major mary sue plot BS to actually become kind of an actual character before they decided to do it again and then swap her out with lesbian character that has to remind you always she's a lesbian like it's an andrew dobson comic. Oddly that character also had weird "become an actual character for a little bit before going back into flanderized mary sue piece of shitbag" thing clara had too.

...Why the fuck did both of them become immortal via some weird dumb bullshit?

Finally got my first doctor who tape in my vhs collection, the daleks limited edition box set (the chase and remembrance of the daleks)
20251030_110329.jpg.webp
Paid $14.56 on ebay for the cheapest copy. Other than the start of the tape on remembrance being a bit loose and warped. It played good. I dont think anyone watched the chase tape as its in great quality.
Something I didn't expect for these tapes is that their played in episodic form (i thought these would be played omnibus style). Either way the start of my who vhs collection is good.

Moffat is chronically unable to fully kill off his characters.
He sure as fucking hell fully killed off amy and rory via extremely retarded shit "oh no no I can't go time travel to the old style NYC times and just pick them up despite the fact I've done that a shitload of times and likely will do again once the writers forget that new stipulation no they just gotta get potentially murder torture timeloop raped by weeping angels again after the one rock nigga sent them to the past and they saw a letter from them meaning it's now set in stone and can't be changed ever despite the fact that shit directly contradicts the entire fucking premise of the show's back to the future-esque time travel.

I just found out that nigga was voiced by fucking Floop from Spy Kids

Fitting considering the modern tonal disposition of Doctor Who, I think that heckin' wacky "Live Chess" scene gives all subsequent Who an honorary placement in the Spy Kids universe, which in a way would still make the show charming if only we could dump the perfunctory-yet-sycophantic globohomo that's marred it lately.

They might not have seen the Doctor ever again, but they still got a happy ending.

So you've heard of the Rushmore Trend ...
if i was going to make a mt rushmore it would be 2,4 eccleston and tennant.
Tom baker and tennant are obvious and should probably be on everyones list.
Troughton being the first reboot had big shoes to fill and did a great job setting up a lot of the characterisation of later doctorsyou dont get the juxtaposition of goofy guy to domineering presence that is so important for almost all of the best moments in who.
Eccleston similarly held the 2005 reboot on his shoulders and with a lesser actor/character the show would of never got off the ground.
My Evil mt rushmoore is Bill, Jodie, Tegan and Willam Hartnell.
I get that William Hartnell is a controversial pick but realistically its obvious from pretty early on that he was struggling and that the show was made worse because they had to write it around what he could do. I understand in the context of when it was made but from a modern perspective the show would of been better if they had replaced him earlier.
Special mentions to Ace's magical baseball bat and the Kandyman

Also i dont know where the idea that people didnt watch Capaldi because he was ugly came from, at least in the uk the thing people were talking about was that he was so much older than the other nu doctors. Being ugly was what people were saying when matt smith was announced and a bunch of tennant fan girls stopped watching because the doctor wasnt good looking anymore, some of them came back when the show was still good. I think the main reason people stopped watching was because they felt they had grown out of the show and it was a good time to dip with most of the storylines ending, like the people who started in 2005 and were the target age i.e. 8-13 were all 18+.

I completely forgot that, holy shit that was wacky.
Somehow everyone I've sent it to over the years never saw it or completely forgot it was a thing.

No, the main reason was the writing rapidly sliding down intowhat it became during the jodie era onwards. Literally the moment people actually were starting to warm up to capaldi they swapped him out and went full on down into hell. I still remember people's reaction to the Missy shit because they knew what was coming and they dreaded it. Fucking insane how that's now nearly of not 10 years ago now fuck. I think a big summary of the bad current year-ism laden writing beginning to rear it's ugly head in full was that one scene in hell bent where the doctor shoots a background timelord guy that people liked and he regenerates into a smug bald black woman that immediately calls men egotistical. I remember the big funny comment people would spam when the scene came up was "regenerates with makeup on" lmao.

Doctor who merch is retard expensive now due to a mix of scalpers and import fees/reigonal exclusives. i think it's telling almost all the merch they're making now the last several years outside funko pop shit is either classic who or early nuwho related. I recently bought some used dalek figures that had some parts missing with the intent of modifying them or something at some point like I did the barnes and noble mini kit ones I brought up in the "most autistic things you've purchased lately" thread. It's kind of interesting how different the proportions on each figure of daleks tends to be and how they're almost always undersized for the supposed scale they're made for.

There was a very notorious reaction video regarding the Capaldi reveal. It was kind of localized all around that one person.

I stopped watching around the time Capaldi was on and it wasn't because he's old and it wasn't because he was ugly.

For me personally I really didn't like his companion. The Impossible Girl who went all through Doctor who's time and got things started. She was the one who convinced him to steal the original TARDIS blah blah blah blah blah.

I did like the idea when she was stuck in the Dalek and when she was in Victoria times but at the end of the day she was too special.

It's actually why I stopped watching during the Matt Smith Sarah too, River Song was so freaking important. And I don't mind companions being important, but I was watching Doctor Who not Doctor Who and his amazing companion. Or a spin-off Doctor Who's amazing companion.

I might have been interested in River Song or the other one if they had their own show which they could be the star. but she was so cocky even the first time we met her. She came off as if she felt she was better than the Doctor. And the show is about him.

But I never watch Doctor Who for the looks of the actors anyway so maybe people did find him ugly I don't know?
