Oddly enough, the War Master himself is barely a character in this. (He only really appears in 2 of the 4 episodes... Much to the detriment of the set.) It goes without saying that this box set is *nowhere near* as good as the first one was, but one praise I will give this is that the lesbian main characters who take the main stage for much of the story are portrayed in the way that I have always said homosexual characters should be done. (i.e. it is not a defining character trait for either of them... And at no point do either of them feel the need to inappropriately remind someone that they are lesbians, Bill style.)
Even though there are 4 episodes in this set, it's *mostly* told as one contiguous story (With one exception). And I will even say that I at least somewhat cared about 3 of those 4 stories- Other reviews I've read seem to especially praise the third story, but it was a major downside for me. Enough to drag the rest of this set down even... I found that third episode in particular to be equal parts pretentious and stupid. (It's basically the less interesting of the two lesbian characters all by herself tripping balls, and really nothing interesting happens, aside from her eventually going completely nuts.) And it breaks up the flow of the rest of the story because it's presented out of order to boot.
Thankfully, Jacobi is still as amazing as ever as the War Master. I wouldn't honestly call any of the other in this cast "bad" (Aside from Big Finish regular Barnaby Edwards, doing a somewhat shitty french(?) accent.. Thankfully he isn't a large part of this story) But yeah, the biggest flaw in this for me is that for a "War Master" box set, The War Master barely did anything.
