You know what, I didn't even think of this in my watching of "Resolution"... (Because I have already mentioned how retardedly ineffectual U.N.I.T. has been in the past few series'... To the point that I still think they *deserved* to be dismantled..) But the "UN" of "U.N.I.T. Stands for "United Nations." I don't care if you love or hate Brexit, that didn't take the UK out of the United Nations, hell the US is still inexplicably a part of the UN, and we've obviously never been a part of the EU.

You're not wrong ... For the classic series.

The UN stopped approving of their name being used in Doctor Who so it now stands for UNified Intelligence Taskforce (dumb, I know). It's not impossible that it became solely UK funded sometime around the 00's at the latest, perhaps due to some kind of lull in alien invasions (due to the shows cancellation)?

Still, it was a dumb moment to explain why only these specific people could do the thing needed to stop the blantant rights holding on to (Beeb needs yearly Daleks or they lose access).

I dunno, they had a US base that was working on Project Indigo during the one two-part season finale that had Davros in it.

This is because the UN realised a lot of people were using their copyright without so much as a "by your leave" and it was mostly under Ban Ki Moon after he took over. (Oh look, South Koreans and retarded copyright law) It was during a weird spate of copyright claiming (and lead to the rise of various fucking awful attempts at laws) which also hilariously resulted in the RAF losing it's own roundel because it had been used on clothing by unauthorised persons since the fucking 1950s.

Big Finish just announced some Big Shit going down:

Need I say more?
Well fuck. I already made my mixed feelings about the War Master Volume 2 clear... And this was the most brilliant thing BF could do to get me to get this regardless of all those mixed feelings... It's fucking poetry... The Doctor who (heh) only got one (two) televised appearance(s), and proved himself to be WAAAY better than what he got, matching up against a Master who only had one televised appearance and proved himself to be way better than what he got...

I only have one real request for this, and that is to see the Macqueen Master regenerate into the Jacobi Master. (The first two War Master sets so far have already been presented out of order, so this shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone.)

So what are we betting on? 2020 cancellation or 2022 cancellation?

You're being optimistic. Despite the ratings crashing by the end of the season, Jodi's stunt casting was still mostly a success. Interest in the show was up. More people were watching (for the first 2/3rds, at least). And, most importantly, they got critical praise from the media--the only thing the BBC actually cares about.

Now that the door's been opened to stunt casting, I expect we'll see at least a black, a muslim and a gay doctor before the show's put out of its misery. Each one will be less impactful than the last, but they'll still get curious viewers and media praise for every pathetic, pandering decision they make.

Didn't the Radio Times recently say the show wrote Jodie like a wet towel and criticised the show for focusing on the male characters?

I...barely hear any hype for it anymore though.

It was a success for a few episodes sure, but the New Years Special got fuck all in terms of a boost in viewers. I think you are giving it too much credit.

Silly me, I had forgotten that the new Big Finish River Song box set (Series 5) had come out... I now own it digitally, but I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet. I will listen to it over the next few days while working... (Short backstory, I was meh about River Song for almost all of her tv appearances, and even some of her BF sets, but I actually really *really* liked River Song Series 4... I said that before here.)

This is the set where River matches wits with 4 different Masters, including Derek Jacobi's War Master, Geoffry Beever's Crispy Master, Michelle Gomez's Missy, and (most oddly, to me at least) The Eric Roberts TV movie Master. (not necessarily in that order) Once I listen to these, I'll give my opinion here... But if anyone else has listened to this already, feel free to give your thoughts first...

Edit: This is the one where the first episode is River vs. Missy, called "The Bekdel Test" (Note, it is NOT spelled "Bechdel Test" like the social justard concept I previously thought it was named after) I'm willing to give it a fair shot though. More to come-

I jumped on around the 50th anniversary but sorta fell off after a few years. Companions like Clara and Bill killed it for me. Family's bigger fans of it now. I wound up torrenting a bunch of the old stuff to watch over a long weekend.

I still occasionally watch some of the landmark stories, they're better than what's on now. Meh.

That Big Finish release with all of the worst (female) characters in New (and partially old) Who history is coming out in a few days. I'm not going to be wasting 20 bucks of my own money on it, but if anyone else wants to share their opinions, I will at least read them.

I first saw Doctor Who when the network formerly known as SciFi was airing Chris Eccleston and really got into it with David Tennant. I didn't like the direction it went during Capaldi and tuned out after his first season. Recently saw the Rosa Parks episode and the one with future Amazon delivery AI trying to kill everyone. How the mighty have fallen, but hey at least they got those sweet, sweet asspats.

I knew it was all downhill when I heard of capaldi's "HEY DID I MENTION IM GAY?" Companion and the fandom proceeded to YAAAS KWEEN in their pants while seemingly deleting all memory of Jack Harkness

Some rather interesting news regarding The Early Adventures coming out later this year
