I first saw Doctor Who when the network formerly known as SciFi was airing Chris Eccleston and really got into it with David Tennant. I didn't like the direction it went during Capaldi and tuned out after his first season. Recently saw the Rosa Parks episode and the one with future Amazon delivery AI trying to kill everyone. How the mighty have fallen, but hey at least they got those sweet, sweet asspats.

I knew it was all downhill when I heard of capaldi's "HEY DID I MENTION IM GAY?" Companion and the fandom proceeded to YAAAS KWEEN in their pants while seemingly deleting all memory of Jack Harkness
It's a shame because Capaldi does have a ton of great episodes but his run will be forever tarnished by "god dammit Moffat's still here", "THE RATINGS", "have I mentioned I'm a lesbian?", "The Moon is an egg" and "THE VILLAIN OF THE WEEK IS SAND FROM YOUR EYES".

Still love Heaven Sent tho

How has Big Finish been doing lately? Haven't gotten anything from them since the 50th. Please tell me they're at least not quite as pozzed as the show.

Christ I forgot about that moon episode. What was the sand one because that sounds awful

big finish is still going on, lots of box sets coming out that piss @UnKillFill off
Sleep No More. It's a found footage episode about a guy who builds a sleep machine but it creates living dirt in your eye which becomes a "spooky monster oooooo". It's probably the shittest DW episode and most hokey since Warriors of the Deep.
and the only episode from that season that didn't get a second part (which would have revealed the morpheus tech that turned people into sandmen and shit originated in the 2010s or some shit)

What else besides the 8th of March is going to piss me off in the near future? I'll probably skip the paternoster gang, but only because they've never done it for me as characters.

I'm actually really excited for some of the stuff they're coming out with in the next few months.

IDK I was going to wait for your input on whatever they come out with and infer from there. What do you think of James Dreyfuss returning as the Master for the next Early Adventures releases (the Second Doctor)?

Capaldi's run exists to set the bottom of the curve for the revived series, just like Eccleston's exists to set the top. Say what you will about farting alien skinsuits, those are an order of magnitude less bad than the monster of the week being made of eye boogers.

IMO, though, most of the good episodes were stand-alones- "Time Heist," "Listen," and "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" (which I liked. It's easy to win me over with a mash note to the comic book genre) while most of the arc stories were nonsensical, to the point where Moffat himself stopped giving a shit ("So what is 'the hybrid?'" "LOL fuck if I know, make something up if you really care. It's never going to come up again either way.") Hell, he basically had Ashilr call him out on bullshitting Clara back to life. Then Season 10 happened.

Capaldi deserved a better run.

I don't always follow the early adventures line. (I have heard enough to know that Jamie McCrimmon does probably as good of a Troughton impression as anybody possibly could.) It is true though that I usually stick to box sets, as they seem to be more bang for your buck.

In answer to your question, I hadn't heard that they were pairing the Dreyfus Master with the Second Doctor, but it sounds like a really good idea. I thought it was a brilliant idea to make a "new" Master for the First Doctor in the first box set they made. And Dreyfus did a good enough job that I'll probably check it out when it releases.

The Audios I'm most looking forward to in the next few months are- (Just in reading in order of release directly from the site):

Gallifrey Time War 2 : https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/gallifrey-time-war-2-1794 - Dammit if this series isn't the little engine who could of Big Finish Doctor Who. It won me over despite barely caring about Romana, and actively disliking Leela (I still think she can be a bitch a lot of the time actually.) Then it lost me by getting really far up its own ass... Actually, the series devolved into a clusterfuck so bad that I was sure they were dropping it for good, but they proved me wrong with Gallifrey Time War 1 last year... In retrospect, this almost seems like the story this series should have been telling all along. (Even though the series predates nuwho by like a year.)

Ravenous 3 : https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/ravenous-3-1799 - I've made no secret how much I love the Eighth Doctor on here... With that said, nothing important happened in Ravenous 1.
(Aside from getting Helen back, which was a foregone conclusion anyway.)
Ravenous 2 was better... But I can't help but think that the first 3 stories of it would have been better as stand alones (or one stand alone and a 2 part) Because while those first 3 were all good stories, the only one that seemed to have any bearing at all on the "Ravenous plot" was the finale... Which leaves Ravenous 3 in the unenviable spot of being part 3 of a (presumably) 4 part series of box sets where almost literally nothing has happened yet.
But fuck it, they're bringing Charley back, take my money.

Don't have much to say about it, but I'll probably check out the next Tenth Doctor set because they're bringing Wilf back.

The Third Doctor Adventures Volume 5 : https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-third-doctor-adventures-volume-05-1981 - Remember when I said I don't really follow the early adventures? This is an exception. (In large part because they release these exclusively as box sets.) I don't even really understand it myself... Tim Treloar barely sounds like Pertwee to me, and Katy Manning obviously sounds way older than Jo Grant ever did now... and yet I somehow totally buy both of them as the characters they're playing. This particular set will apparently also be recasting Liz Shaw, and the Brigadier himself. If the latter re-casting in particular works, the possibilities are almost limitless..

The Legacy of Time : https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-legacy-of-time-1891 - I'm not spoiling this one for myself, but it's technically an anniversary special, and I always catch those.

The War Master 3 : https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-war-master-rage-of-the-time-lords-1870 If I was ordering these just by hype, this would probably be number one. The Eighth Doctor vs The Jacobi Master. The only way this could be better to me is if it showed Alex MacQueen regenerating into the Jacobi Master. (Which sadly probably won't happen.)

I'm stopping here, but I did find one box set they're releasing in the next few months that... I have mixed feelings about. (But I'll still probably check out.)
The Diary of River Song Series 6: https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-diary-of-river-song-series-06-1744 - It's practically a meme at this point that I hate "strong female characters" in Doctor Who... But River Song has pretty much won me over in her audios, which in my opinion mostly range from "ok" to "really great"... This particular series is apparently going to be River going back and meeting with various side characters in the Doctor's history (as opposed to previous ones where she met various Doctors, and in the last one various Masters). She's already met with Doctors 4-8.

If it were me, I'd have had her meet with Treloar's 3, Hines's 2 and Bradley's 1 just to complete the set. (Hopefully that still happens) But in this one, she's apparently meeting Henry Gordon Jago... Before Talons. (If I haven't said this before, I'm saying this now, Jago and Litefoot is literally my favorite piece of Who of all time, and it saddens me to no end that we will never get another proper continuation of it... (RIP Trevor Baxter)

In this set, River is also apparently meeting the people who currently play Ian, Barbara, and Susan in Big Finish... I don't really know what to think of any of this, but I will still probably check it out.

Time Heist
Comrade! It's a shame that Time Heist is so underrated. I remember people disliking that episode when the script of the first five episode of S8 is leaked.

It's funny that some of Capaldi's multi-parter episode is better viewed as a singular episode. Girl who Died, Zygon Inversion, Heaven Sent, Extremis, World Enough and Time

The Comic Strip Adaptations have just been released.

The Early Adventures will see a crossover between the Second and First Doctors

Gallifrey: Time War 2 is now out

Night of the Fendahl, the first Torchwood monthly of the year is out. The Fendahl was the villain of the Fourth Doctor story Image of the Fendahl.

@UnKillFill did you ever listen to The Diary of River Song Series 5? Because they're back...

River Song 5 was disappointing for me. (Though admittedly not quite as disappointing as River Song 4 was). I'm coming at that opinion from a weird angle though, River Song 3 is my favorite thing that anyone has ever done with her, and it totally justified to me a character that I hadn't even liked before that.

As for River Song 5... I had some problems- limiting the box set to the usual 4 story format was a pretty big one. At very least, a 5th story where all of the previously defeated masters/missy came together for one last run... (A literal "The 4 Masters") could have been amazing. Also without spoiling anything too badly, The Eric Roberts (8th Doctor Movie) Master story in general was a total missed opportunity. Aside from that, I mostly liked the set, I just wish it was better.

I've mentioned my other issue about "River Song vs 'All' of the Masters" before on here- the Alex MacQueen Master seems to have been totally forgotten by Big Finish lately. I don't know the reason for that, but it's a real shame because he's amazing. He definitely should have been a part of River Song 5, and even more than that he should be a part of Ravenous 4. (He's pretty much the Master for the 8th Doctor, even more so than the Eric Roberts Master who debuted with him.)

With all that said, Big Finish is just lucky I still even care about "Ravenous" at this point. I literally can not think of any other multi part box set that got to the very end of the second set while barely even mentioning the supposed subject of the series (I still could only barely tell you what the hell a "Ravenous" even is.)... If they weren't bringing Charley back in part 3 (and I'm sure that's going to be a disappointment in itself) I probably wouldn't even bother... by the look of Ravenous 4 it doesn't look like she sticks around anyway.

A few more of my thoughts about "Ravenous" so far... I remember reading about Big Finish patting themselves on the back that "Ravenous" was going to feature a lot more "stand alone" stories than previous 8th Doctor Box sets had before it.

I'll just go ahead and say it, I always thought that was a stupid idea, and the execution so far has done nothing to change my mind about that- We're two box sets into "Ravenous" so far, 8 episodes, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say that basically 3/4 of that have objectively been "filler." I wouldn't even call the filler, as a whole, bad... (I'll even say I mostly liked the Christmas shit in Ravenous 2...) But most of it has nothing at all to do with "The Ravenous" which I do think is a huge misstep. There's no reason that they couldn't have re-purposed all of that filler as individual stand-alone monthly stories for McGann, separate from the box sets... He already has a lighter load than all the other BF Doctors (Aside from maybe T. Baker), there's no reason he can't go back to having monthly releases in addition to his sets.

Forgetting all that, "the Ravenous" got a "blink and you'll miss it" (or the audio equivalent of that concept) mention in "Ravenous 1."

But forgetting that, they did not play any part at all in "Ravenous 2" until the very end of the last episode... Yeah they seem dangerous now, but why the hell were the first 2 sets filled with so much superfluous shit? I'll say it again, filler. And I hope Big Finish changes their strategy for the last 2 in this series of box sets.

@UnKillFill Now's the time to find out, because Ravenous 3 is here.
