I can see them doing another male Doctor somewhere down the line, but it would most likely be a non-white actor. Nothing wrong with that - apparently Chiwetel Ejiofor was supposed to be the Twelfth Doctor before they cast Peter Capaldi (this was right before 12 Years a Slave, so he probably got too expensive after that, hence negotiations falling through) and he'd have been phenomenal.
There was a Doctor Who parody done in the 80s with a non-white actor.

I think I'd give more of shit about Jodie's departure if it happened unexpectedly, and not when actors traditionally move on from the show.

They must really be hurting for female viewers if they have to add hot guys to the cast.
The new series was at its most popular when they had a young reasonably attractive guy as the doctor. Women want a hot doctor they can 'bate to and self insert as the companion. They don't want to be the doctor.

Taking Revival Era Doctor Who and swapping out the hot male doctor for a woman was a lot like taking a skin magazine and swapping out all of the busty naked ladies for naked men with 12 inch long dicks. It's gonna appeal to somebody. but its original audience is not going to like it.

Considering the popularity of Harkness and that he got his own spinoff though I think a lot of that fandom was gay men.

Very likely. Doctor Who seems to have an... eclectic bunch of fans.

It just amazes me how seemingly fast the rot set in. It wasn't even a decade ago I was at a theatrical screening of the 50th anniversary with my then gf and the show was at the height of international popularity.... Now it's just a sad shell, but at least it did a stronk wahmen.

Imagine if Jodie wasn't leaving and she got to do whole episodes about covid. I'm sure we'll get some blazing takes from whoever comes next (if they even do). But I can just imagine how insufferable it'd be from her.

Yea. During the 50th Doctor Who stuff was all over. Now its nowhere to be found.

Just the fact there was a 13 is absolute failure. There was no reason to continue this series past 12 since that is the canonical limit. Any decent show runner would have had a good plan for how to close out the series with 12.

Also am I the only person who thinks this series would still be classic if it literally ended at the end of Tom Baker's run?

IDGAF if Whittaker is leaving, she didn't (directly) kill Doctor Who to the point where I feel gross even thinking about it now... Chinballs did that. Sorry @Buster O'Keefe, I should have reviewed Paradise Towers by now, I hope I can make myself care about classic Who enough to do that soon, but... please don't be mad if I go back to shitting on Rose Tyler before I watch Paradise Towers... It's all I have left to hate at the moment.

Iirc, the matt smith doctor was actually the 12th (there was a war doctor in between the 8th and “9th” doctors) but in his final episode, he was given another 12 regenerations for saving the Time Lords in day of the doctor because the BBC needed to milk the franchise as much as possible

The Tenth Doctor also used up a regeneration to heal himself at the beginning of Journey's End but kept the same face as he was able to focus the remaining regeneration energy into his severed hand from The Christmas Invasion which Captain Jack had kept preserved in a jar.
