The source he linked was Nerdrotic who's another YouTuber who makes clickbait "SJW media DESTROYED with FACTS AND LOGIC " videos, so I'm skeptical of this claim. It's true the ratings are in the toilet, but the BBC will probably keep it on life support or downgrade it to one of their lesser channels rather than admit failure.

Going down to the comments sections on these kind of videos is actually rather like stepping into a TARDIS. Takes me right back to 2016.

Doctor Who is very hard to kill. In its 50+ year span it's only been cancelled once to my knowledge and I just don't think the TV landscape right now would allow such a big franchise to slip through the cracks. All it needs is a new Doctor and things will be OK.

It wasn't even technically cancelled the first time round, it was put on "extended hiatus".

FTFY.

Although I'm not sure if poor Jodie could salvage any goodwill from the audience at this stage, even with someone competent behind the controls.

It's kind of ironic for a guy like Chibnall who we have footage of being a huge fucking nerd as a teenager turning out to be the most milquetoast runner ever.

If you're referring to the end of the Seventh Doctor's run then there's a lot of parallels between then and now. I agree Nerdrotic is low-info outrage entertainment for people upset about SJWs but back when Seven's run was ended you had show-runners who later admitted they were trying to use the show to "bring down Thatcher's government" with endless pandering and moralizing. People turned off in droves from the likes of The Happiness Patrol and Ace talking about "White kids did it then ran away" in Ghost Light.

And right now we're seeing people walk away from Doctor Who. The two biggest Who fans I know in real life were both women in their Forties who fancied David Tennant. They stuck around for Matt Smith because he was good. Interest waned during Peter Capaldi not, I think because he was old, but because the scripts were on the turn even then. Neither of them have the slightest interest in the current run. And when I went to the 50th Anniversary showing at the cinema I'd say the split was pretty much 50:50 between boys and girls and there were a very large amount of teenage girls showing up - including one dressed as Tom Baker (that provoked some weird feelings I can tell you!). How many of them still watch it now that Tennant and Matt Smith have been replaced with someone who "represents them"? I don't know but I'd guess it's a small fraction.

So cancel Doctor Who? I could believe it. They just wont call it that.

If the show really is about to be canceled, somebody should make a charity single to try and save it...

They could call it "Doctor in this Dress." I'm sorry.

The thing is, Doctor Who's always had political messaging, but it's usually been quite subtle and woven it into an interesting story. Like I said upthread, Malcolm Hulke was a literal card-carrying Communist, but he gave us stories like The Silurians which got people thinking about "who the real monsters were", The Mutants was a metaphor for apartheid, the Daleks were based on the Nazis, The Sun Makers was a rant against the tax man and there's probably loads of others I can't remember off the top of my head.

The problem is when people started using a sledgehammer when a scalpel would have done.

I didn't see it. Was she a Slitheen?
Here’s the Wikipedia article for it:

When the Thirteenth Doctor attempts to return to present-day Sheffield, the TARDIS instead brings her and her friends to Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. Before attempting to leave, the Doctor finds that there are traces of artron energy in the area from another time travel device. Deciding to investigate, the group learn that they have arrived the day before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat as bus driver James F. Blake demanded on 1 December, effectively influencing the civil rights movement. Tracing the energy, the group locate a suitcase of equipment from the future, but are unable to learn more when they are forced to flee when its owner attempts to hit them with a time displacement device. The Doctor suspects he is trying to alter Parks' history.

Leaving her friends to research everything behind the critical moment on 1 December, the Doctor returns to examine the suitcase's contents, before using it to shield herself from its owner — a rehabilitated mass murderer named Krasko. The Doctor learns that Krasko seeks to prevent the Montgomery bus boycott from occurring, but cannot simply kill Parks, since his neural implants prevent him from killing any living being. The Doctor is unable to convince him to abandon his plan, despite taking his time displacement device and destroying his vortex manipulator. When the Doctor learns that Krasko had arranged for Blake to take the day off, she and her friends focus on keeping history on track despite Krasko working to counter their efforts.

Ryan encounters Krasko blocking the bus route with a car after removing false notices at bus stops, learning that Krasko succeeded in keeping the bus from reaching its passenger quota. Ryan learns that Krasko's actions are motivated by his deeply racist views, and uses the criminal's own displacement device to send him into the past to stop him completely. Removing the blockade, he and the others rejoin the Doctor on the bus as passengers before reaching Empire Theater. As the moment arrives, the Doctor realises they have become integral to events, and is forced to keep them aboard the bus. After witnessing Parks being arrested by the police for violating segregation laws, the group return to the TARDIS where the Doctor shows them the impact Rosa has had on history, leading to an asteroid being named in her honor in the future.

I guess the BBC won't sell Doctor Who to ITV because they might be afraid then ITV will menage to be more successeful than the BBC to promote Dr. Who.

The sad thing is it wouldn't even be that hard to fix the show. Have it turn out that the whole time child thing was just The Master (and better yet, say he wasn't even The Master) and "Doctor Ruth" (who is not actually the Doctor) fucking with the Doctor for whatever reason.

Over the next series, let 13 realize that she's been a bigger force for evil than good, and finally end up deciding to go back and save Capaldi, becoming at least a little bit heroic for once, and more importantly negating her entire existence. (Next time Capaldi regenerates, it would be into somebody different.)

Yes there should be major consequences for doing this (soft reboot), and by all means lean into that. An entire series where reality is fundamentally fucked up until Capaldi stabilizes it in the finale could be fun. (2023 when this could air is an anniversary year. Maybe bring in the still-living doctors who aren't too old, including McGann and Eccleston this time.)

Also, and it goes without saying, fire Chinballs immediately. Use this opportunity to pair Capaldi up with a show runner who isn't terrible for once.

How ever bad you're thinking it is from that description, it was worse. And that wasn't even the worst episode of that series, and the less we say about the series after, the better.

I remember hearing about this Time Child. And one of my friends raged about it until she had the subject to calm herself down. One thing I've heard about Doctor Who since 2005 is that as the Doctors come and go, the writing becomes increasingly like fanfiction.

Most of the Eleventh Doctor's story arc was literally a fanfic Moffat wrote on Usenet years ago.

You really want to fix it?

have it be revealed that Jodie was actually a regeneration of Susan and this was all an elaborate plot to locate her grandfather who had gone missing. Bring back Capaldi if you want, introduce the true 13th regen otherwise.

No way! I've got to see the citation on that.
