Yeah I'm not sure what makes it so unique when everyone and their grandma can fire energy blasts. Like what makes it so fundamentally different from the Galick Gun?
Yeah most Ki based moves seem similar, but Ki definitely seems to be divided into sub-groups;
Blast-type Ki, this being moves like the Kamehameha, Galick Gun, Tri-Beam
Simple and quick to use; unless you want to charge it; will hurt like a motherfucker if you get hit by it.
Can either be pushed back by it, or if you're totally overwhelmed it can reduce you to ashes.
Could still win the fight if you were to get hit by the attack.
Piercing/Slicing Ki, this being moves like the Special Beam Cannon, Destructo Disc, etc.
These are lethal as fuck, but are incredibly hard to hit with or just take a lot of time to use.
Unless you're specifically guarding against it or are just infinitely stronger than the one using it, if you get hit you're losing an arm tail or gaining a hole in your chest.
Zero fucking chance of winning the fight if you get hit by the attack.
Games unfortunately make these techniques look quick, easy and spammable, they aren't.
Utility Ki, this being moves like the Kaioken, Solar Flare, etc.
These are solely to assist in gaining an advantage over the enemy.
Well that's kinda because the series treats these things inconsistently. Other than the Special Beam Cannon, pretty much every move in that category has been spammed and done quickly/easily.
Really the only move that doesn't get spammed is the Kikoho, and obviously the more obscure OG techniques like the Shock Wave and whatnot.

More's to the point, Gohan's character in the Cell Saga is dogshit and all over the place and makes almost no sense in the first place. I understand why it happened, Toriyama needed there to be some sort of conflict for the climax of the story, so now Gohan is a pacifist despite never showing any signs of that during every other one of his appearances. He was always ready to throw down prior to the Cell Games, but something turned him into a massive fucking pussy and he quite literally never truly recovered as a character.

Personal bias, I don't mind if people use fictional media to make biblical parallels, there can be interesting conversations to be had. However, if you're going to bring up both Christianity and Buddhism to present your case for the universal truth, just go the extra mile and also do Taoism and Confucianism among others. I don’t believe Akira Toriyama had any of those spiritual themes in mind for the Gohan vs. Cell fight, though going at it through that regional mindset and what he may have grown up around would be much more interesting than the age-old "Character is a Messianic figure and here's why" approach.

He dreams of being a scholar, but once he learns to fight and gets over his fear, he never once backs down from fighting. He jumps at the chance to fight on Namek pretty much immediately, and He doesn't voice any issues with fighting before they go into the time chamber. He's also the one who initiates a few of the fights they get involved in, like when He jumps in to save Dende or when he doesn't hesitate to turn around and go back to the fight with Vegeta.
He also immediately moves to go intercept Frieza when he arrives on earth.
Also, people forget that he was perfectly willing to fight the Androids when the Android Saga started.
The issue that pops up with Gohan isn't so much that he dislikes fighting, that can be fine. It's the fact that he acts like this when he's fighting Cell.

You can argue that he's in a rage or whatever, but that's still Gohan acting that way and saying these things.

That's also a bit out of the blue, but in hindsight, he was right to worry, since it led to him blowing a chance to finish Cell off out of sadism.

This is fair, but even then, the sadism is a bit out of character for Gohan since every rage moment he has before this is him just outright trying to kill the person that pissed him off. But I guess you could make the argument that being in a Super Saiyan form makes it worse. Since Goku does become pretty sadistic on Namek after he turns Super Saiyan.
