Jump forward to 2020

>In development for 6 years minimum
>Ex Game Park employees stole it's lunch ages ago with the GPD series
>Cheap retro handhelds up the bum from everyone and their gran if you don't care about PC functionality

Gee I wonder why this thing is taking so fucking long
*ogles video*
OH NO NO NO NO

I was just watching this great gameplay footage of Need For Speed (1995) played on the Open Pandora video game machine a few hours ago.

2 years? They were still finishing up pre-orders in 2013.
The Pandora was quite a clusterfuck. Which is kind of understandable since it's extremely hard to get something as complex as this manufactured by such a tiny team. And then the British side of it ran away with the money or something.

Oh yeah, these same guys did the iControlpad, a decent little controller manufactured in England that you could use with a hacked iPhone to play roms with.

Then came a Kickstarter for the iControlpad 2, where the guy heading it, Craig J.V. Rothwell (search that name for plenty of shit), made off with over $200,000 and left everyone he was working with holding the bag. I never followed up to see if any of it got resolved, though.

If ol' Rothwell's behind this, then hahahahahahahaha, what a shitshow. Everything surrounding the OpenPandora mess could make for a great Internet Historian or Down the Rabbit Hole video. Calling it the fucking "Pandora" couldn't have been a more appropriate name.

I remember wanting the OpenPandora so fucking bad, just to play Doom 3 on the go. I was kinda aware of the Pyra, didn't realize it was in active development and it's still expensive in relation to what you are getting now.

The pre-preorders were fulfilled some time between January 2021 and now. The normal preorders from 5 years ago have yet to ship.

The good news is that those who are waiting can entertain themselves with a Linux based portable gaming machine made by a promising new hardware company named Valve sold at half the price called a Steam Deck!
