the whole game is just a grab at the 'diversity' card. it has a targeted audience and caters to that audience very well. its probably just a fad that will disappear in a few weeks

Pretty much. After the release salt + cult ending salt, this game has been fully milked for relevant drama.

The few people worth their salt that actually cared about the cult ending said their piece and left, the remainder is mainly just your typical tumblr yaoi fangirls jerking each other off on how non-homophobic the game is.

I think this post summarizes all the supporting arguments I've seen. Only one or two people continue to bitch about it, the rest of the discourse is fandom circlejerking.
 
It's weird that the people who sperg about 'bad representation' of gay people enforce that whole Mary Sue Galbrush Threepwood theory. Like, you literally can't have a bad guy gay dude because it'll make some poor little baby gay in San Fran cry rainbow tears?
