New soyjak just dropped! His name is ddrewjak.

Dial Linux and FOSS back to somewhere around 2008 - 2010, and while it may be back to just a huge nerd thing that doesn't have software support, the people behind it are not all huge insufferable faggots like Drew. I have a few theories on why that era in particular bred a lot of morons and whiny fags, and I'm certain that if they never came to be, Linux would be so much better in most aspects.
It is people like Drew with their huge ego that make the Linux desktop unusable today.

Good OP. I didn't know he tried to advertise his damn stupid language on 4chan of all places. What a loser. :story:

@Slav Power The GUI mess is just one piece of the puzzle. I've said this a million times but the whole package ecosystem is a complete joke by design. Any sane operating system would've had a standard system for creating compatible software binaries and here we are 30 years later and Linux is still forcing you to manually recompile everything for your specific permutation of the OS.
I know there's shit like Appimage and Flatpak but there's still drawbacks to be aware of. Both Mac and Android seem to handle things completely fine despite still being Unix. (Detached from Apple's draconian developer policies)

I am very glad that the GNU/Linux community does it's best to successfully deter me from ever switching to Linux. Not only is their software as stable and reliable as Windows Me, they'll also have zero inhibitions to sabotage it because of ideological reasons. Might as well daily drive a car with a planted remotely controlled bomb.
The mistake most Linux desktop users make is not running Debian and KDE. The only time Debian has ever disappointed me was when it adopted systemd. Even with that handicap, however, it remains the most stable and reliable distribution available.

People who complain about Debian packages being "too old" don't value system stability and/or have never bothered to learn what "backports" is or how to add third-party repositories. And yes, stability is paramount, at least to me. I don't want to reboot for updates every day (or every month). I don't want to deal with backwards-incompatible software updates. I want my shit to work today like it did a year ago, and Debian gives me that. KDE is the same for me in terms of UI. Trouble-free and a delight to use.

People who complain that random game X doesn't run on Linux need to reboot to Windows so they can enjoy their game instead of spending hours being frustrated by inexperience (not a pleasant experience), building a chip on their shoulder and saving up useless feces to spew into whatever forums they wander into that dare discuss gaming on Linux. Let the nerds bang away on it for a few more years. It's getting there (the Steam Deck is a great example of progress), but Linux is not turnkey (until you're good at it) and neither is gaming on Linux. Not yet. Don't get mad that it isn't. Go fix it or go use a better-suited tool (i.e. Windows) if you can't or don't want to. It's okay.

I haven't noticed this. I know they put in assloads of adware the likes of which would have prompted one to reinstall the whole system in the 2000s, but I've never encountered any outright wokisms in new windows and I've been using it for work for many years.
They put the fag flag right on the taskbar during fag month this year, made it non-trivial to disable or remove and (naturally) silenced/banned anybody who dared ask how to get rid of it.

I bet Microsoft is actually funding these fuckers specifically to wreck Open Source's reputation and make sure it doesn't get industry adoption.
They hired Lennart Poettering a couple years back. That's right -- the asshole who gave us Pulse Audio and systemd is literally a Microsoft employee now. Make of that what you will.

I can't tell whether Drew got too many wedgies or not quite enough.
Definitely not enough. Somehow the natural order has been inverted. This shithead shouldn't be in the position to gatekeep anything. He should have been gatekept out of the hobby and industry a long time ago. If he'd tried pulling this shit in the 80's or 90's they'd have hounded him off usenet and banned him from every computer lab in a heartbeat. The most heartbreaking thing of my career has been watching this industry letting all the wrong people take control of the vital organs of the industry, and then watching them fuck it all up.

It's because the mentality throughout the community is basically people going "I can do it better" and they end up fragmenting themselves even further and further. A classic case of trying to create a standard and now there are 15 standards.

I remember when the tech scene was filled with passionate nerds who loved computers. But today, in the year of our lord 2023, the tech scene is filled with turbo autistic soydevs who can't not politisperg even if it meant life or death; with a considerable portion of them being trannies or degenerates in general.

...it's not fun being a computer nerd anymore. :(

Used to own a Twitter account at some point (Twitter / Archive)
Yup, his Twitter used to be @sircmpwn but then he baleeted it in 2017 for an account on his own Mastodon instance, @sir@cmpwn.com, and then he baleeted his own instance (which other people used!) for some reason (seems to be a recurring pattern...). He's jumped around a few Mastodon instances before arriving at Fosstodon in the present day.

Thanks for the info, will add later.

Edit: has been added.

Someone shared these links and I'd thought to share here:

Drew once worked for Microsoft:
I work with everything in .NET that you can think of, but especially with Silverlight, XNA, and WP7. I'm a Microsoft Student Insider, and work a lot with TI calculators as a hobby.
He was flown out to Redmond HQ:
I was recently in Redmond (Microsoft HQ), hanging out with the rest of the Microsoft Student Insiders. Microsoft was kind enough to pay for my flights, hotel, and other expenses, which was great.
He also worked for SpaceX.

His old Reddit history has some earlier tidbits into his upbringing. Thanks to Pullpush, a project that makes use of the Pullshift Reddit data dumps, most of it has been archived here.

Most of the comments have been overwritten with a script "to help protect users from doxing, stalking, and harassment", like this one.

He apparently had a falling out with his parents over atheism:
I did the same thing, coming out as atheist early on. My personal age of reason was much lower than most, like yours.
However, it was a pretty big source of tension. They didn't quite kick me out, but suffice to say that I left two days after turning 18. It's probably a good idea to keep your atheism to yourself in a highly religious family until you know you can support yourself.
(on a side note: my little sister came out to me privately, and I'm incredibly proud of her! If my parents kick her out when she works up the guts to tell them, she's sure to have a place to stay with me)
Proof it's him: pullpush (archive)

Well, I'm only 18. I recently chose to move out of my parent's house because we were not compatible with each other's beliefs, and once I was 18 we both wanted each other out. I chose a lot of things:
  • To illegally learn to drive so I could take a test and get a license
  • To have sex in a one-night stand These were somewhat questionable moral choices. But I also chose to:
  • Take up a friend in my apartment for a few days when his parents were being troublesome
  • Donate to a number of causes (including doctors without borders)
  • Continue to go to work and be a participating member of society, even doing good enough work to advance my raise schedule quite a bit
  • Become a certified professional in two different fields
So I kind of just do what feels right, logically. I still don't have a car, but I'm buying one tomorrow. Without it, my life would be much more difficult, and breaking the law to learn how to drive without a permit (in a safe, controlled manner) seems acceptable. I had a one night stand with a nice girl who I got to know a bit beforehand. I didn't pick her up from a bar or anything, and I used a condom. She has birth control. I don't think I really need to explain the "good" moral choices. I've been without religion for almost 10 years, so I'm pretty sure it has had little effect in shaping my moral compass.

Was it because his parents hated handle Drew, or Drew hated his parents? Knowing Drew, I'm inclined to believe the latter, as ultimately he chose to leave on his own volition.

Also of note:
I'm often told that I am very intelligent and I produce quality work for my job, but school never interested me and I didn't make good grades. What means of proving my intellectual integrity are strong enough to realistically substitute for grades? My unweighted GPA was 2.54, and weighted was 2.63.

Drew was already no stranger to critiquing others' taste in software:
So you're using IE or Safari, then. What are you doing on /r/osdev?
Proof it's him: pullpush (archive)

He also has an account on this TI-84 website.

At the time of writing, his "Anti Wayland horseshit" article is delisted from his article list at drewdevault.com . Guessing he couldn't handle the flak?

Lol I was wondering what a "Microsoft Student Insider" was and found somebody else's blog post explaining (a):
As of today, I am officially a Microsoft Student Insider. What is that you ask? Essentially, it is an unpaid job to blog about various topics that they would like me to blog about.
Although:
While I will be writing a minimum of 15 blog posts for Microsoft over the next year, I am also being sent, all expenses paid, to whatever conferences they want to send me to cover.
Still though, he did it for free :story:

Thanks for this, added to OP and credited.

Everything is political and we have to punch fascists both offline and rhetorically in the cyber realm.
with a considerable portion of them being trannies or degenerates in general.
And don't forget the LITERAL GENOCIDE happening against LGBTQPZ+.

This dumb nigger is exactly what happens when you go your whole life saying stupid shit without anyone beating the fuck out of you, at least once. The fact that anybody in the free software sphere takes him seriously on anything is mind-boggling. He is an Internet tough guy, yet looks like you would give him fractures in multiple places if you sneezed too hard near him. At least Patrick Tomlinson is just obese, but this dude is simply the nerdiest-looking goblin.

Linux was never designed to be a GUI OS and Windows was never designed to be a CLI OS.
I always thought this was funny as well. I have been using Linux for many years, I play games on it, and do everything else. Eventually I did end up using Hyprland and keep as much interface as possible in the command line, because it is just easier and faster that way. Linux is based on UNIX in its design, and UNIX was designed for a very different environment of multi-user systems. Back when computers, or mainframes as they were called, cost a gorillion dollars. I don't think that makes Linux fundamentally unsuitable for single-user systems, as me and many other people around the world do it just fine, but the problem I feel is how everything is trying to be shoehorned into the Windows template.

Take desktop environments, for instance. The only one that in any way substantially differs from Windows's Metro is GNOME, if we exclude tiling window managers. Yet even GNOME doesn't really accommodate the fact that Linux is a UNIX-like system. It still tries to abstract away things like superusers or whatnot from the interface, which I feel is a mistake. I think making desktop environments as friendly as possible to Windows users paradoxically makes them more confusing, and it would be easier if the interface embraced the integrals that make Linux special. Apple does largely circumvent this in macOS by controlling not just the entire software but also hardware stack, so they can be sure that everything runs like clockwork and nobody will ever have to think about what a "superuser" is. However, Linux does not have that luxury.

I always found it weird how everything has to be catered to Windows. I am not saying that because I think Windows is an unprofessional and closed system, which it is. Even if Windows were professional, it still just doesn't make sense to make Linux like something else. Linux is Linux, and is different even compared to macOS, a proper UNIX system, simply because Linux is free software. Faggots like Drew want Linux to be a walled garden, but not in any way like macOS where it guides some coherent system design. They want a walled garden of politisperging and JavaScript-based programs because they are losers of life who want to feel any sense of meaning.

I was also able to find some interesting subdomains on certain domains, including live.stew.moe (archive) which hosts some random pictures/videos that Drew uploaded. My favorites are:

Another interesting subdomain is mirror.drewdevault.com (archive), which includes three videos of him playing tranny game, a presentation in which he explains why cryptocurrency sucks, and a super weird NSFW video.
Archive of mirror.drewdevault.com (with packages.knightos.org, episode 19 of Demon Slayer, some Go downloads, and a binary called "hugo" removed): (uploading...)
