They troon out specifically because they are stupid. Someone like Poettering or other niggers on a high horse will get their much-wanted attention by virtue of being technically skilled, regardless of what you might think of their programming philosophy. They don't need to troon out. They might not necessarily be drama or attention whores either, such as Torvalds.

It does seem like their profile is something like this: They are skilled enough to make a dent in programming, but not widely competent like Poettering or Torvalds. They make a small presence for themselves in programming and they like it. However, because they are not skilled, the fame and attention is small and short-lived. They are narcissists, and they are way too hungry for that taste to let up, so they troon out instead of becoming better programmers.

Maybe not, but that's how it feels to me after seeing a bunch of their online profiles and projects.

Not that impressive - sure, I agree, but also doesn't mean he's not competent at what he does. When I call someone incompetent, I think more about things like fucking up projects, stealing other people's work to pass as their own, lying about their skill level, this sort of thing. Tech is full of people who are not Ken Thompsons, but also not Jackie Signhs of this world, competent, but not that impressive.

Their upstream provider black holed our ASN to mitigate a DDoS coming into our network by hijacking our BGP routes to point to their black hole ASN. Taking this at face value, doesn't this mean service was degraded to mitigate a DDoS attack? Not great for the affected hosts, but blackholing an entire ASN to mitigate a DDoS attack is not unheard of (although it is usually reserved as a final measure when more selective blackholing etc. isn't working).

So this doesn't seem ideologically motivated as it was with KiwiFarms. Right?
