oh what's wrong Drew, landlord's not considering FOSS donations a viable source of income? Too much of a bitch that you don't/can't get a real mortgage, and instead bash on people who have to put up with people who might just stop paying their rent? Maybe you should just come in as an illegal so you can get housed for free; but you can't cause of your white American privilege.

Yeah, Drew should fuck the hell off. I'm not too versed in Netherlandish rental law but I know how protective of renters many european states are.

Imagine being a landlord, not doing your due diligence and your renter can't pay rent anymore. Just throw them out? Ha, nope. Europe has a right "to a roof above one's head", so they gotta keep living there, without paying. Sure, you can sue them and get whatever possessions they have. In said bad case, surprise, if they don't have money for rent, they don't have that expensive possesions either. So you as a landlord are not only losing potential income from a good rentoid, you're also bleeding all the costs yourself.

Fine. So, libertarians are stupid, because they don't go far enough with their silly little taxation is theft slogan. The proper view is the anarchist realization that all property is theft, taken either from nature or other men. It stands to reason that something becomes mine if I can take it and defend it against others who would take it from me. Apparently, William the Conqueror redrew many of the property lines in England, and gave quite a lot of it to his buddies, whose families still own that property. Now, why sell property when it can just be rented forever instead?

Landlords want to own property and make money off of it forever. Well, once it's taken from them, their claims become illegitimate. Western societies have bent over backwards to ensure landlords don't lose money. Fuck them.

While I intended my joke to be an agreement about not continuing the discussion, I'm compelled by my stupidity and stubbornness to point out that doesn't abolish property rights it merely grants them solely to the most violent.

I don't know dutch property law either but there must be a ton of people who are landlords and who do not use the services of a renting agency. These agencies are basically useless in anything beyond finding random people to put in the flat and taking a huge cut of the rent, something that you can do yourself if you can type a 100+ words classified and not be afraid to pick up calls from unknown numbers. Is the renting business so bad in America that you cannot rent without the "help" of a renting agency oligopoly and Drew just cannot imagine paying rent to some other person directly? Just go to local classifieds and look for flats to rent. It will be cheaper.

Netherlands is the easiest country to live in in Europe, it's a mix of 3-4 nations and historically the most open nation due to sea trade. Even the gas station cashiers there speak english, how can one, doubly so an American not be able to function in there is a mystery to me. 91% people there speak english, more than german which is the mother tongue of one of their neighbouring countries.
