Anyone care to share their drinking preferences - both alcoholic, and virgin with rage?

I like just about anything from tea boutiques like Teavana or Argo - hot, cold, sparkling, or blended with juice. I probably drink my body weight in spicy vegetable juice or tomato juice in a week, and the occasional Virgin Mary or Virgin Ceaser if I'm hung over (I know it's of little benefit, but a great excuse for Clamato at 9 am). I love Mexican sodas, and the occasional root beer, in the summer. The appeal of cola is lost on me, though Dr. Pepper (if it's even a cola) was the least gross, IMO. I'd be dead within a week, if my daily drinking habits were like Chris'.

While my appetite for food is quite broad, I'm constantly reminded how narrow my tastes for spirits are. Johnnie Walker Black Label, Caol Ila 12yr, or Talisker 10yr - neat. When I'm out of town, Dewars White Label, Glenfiddich or Glenlivet - on the rocks (maybe straight up if I'm flirting with someone or with clients). I like the occasional Bloody Mary or Bloody Ceaser (with a dill pickle instead of celery, if possible). I hate most wine, and only drink it if I want to get tore up. I don't have a taste for sweet drinks, with the exception for micheladas - providing there's some savory or spicy notes to it. I also like Jarritos with a half-shot of vodka (though I'd probably just prefer the soda by itself). I tried a Prairie Oyster, after hearing about it on Cowboy Bebop, and it was good but probably not worth the wait or tipping your bartender $20 for the trouble. I've had a few spiced rums and liqueurs (Sailor Jerry, Kraken, and some spiced pumpkin liqueur), but nothing has blown my mind - yet.

Anyone else have some good suggestions - either some better single malt scotch whiskies that many places would still have, maybe some other kind of spicy/savory cocktail, or a blended drink that isn't a syrupy-sweet Slurpee? I think I would like something nutty - like actual pecan or walnut flavor - but have no idea what's out there. I heard about hot pepper vodkas... Anyone know if these any good? Do you have them neat, or only in mixed drinks?

Blue Milk (from star wars!)

I glass coconut milk (Silk brand of coconut milk has them in huge cartons, vanilla works best!)
a few drops of blue liquid food coloring

Stir the food coloring in the milk and Ta Da! An authentic Star Wars beverage! Enjoy! The coconut milk is filled with calcium and good fats for you too. It's preferred over regular milk just because it is a little more exotic.

I'm a teetotaler so I can't help with alcoholic drinks. A Virgin Mary, Virgin Caesar or spiced tomato juice sounds pretty good, though.

My tastes are pretty boring when it comes to soda, smoothies and coffee. I generally get smoothies during warm weather and coffee during cold weather. I drink a lot of diet soda (Coke Zero, especially) but I need to start drinking more water or Diet Sprite because my teeth are starting to yellow.

I'll have to try the blue milk recipe. If we're talking about sci fi drinks, does anyone have a good recipe for Klingon blood wine?

Amarhetto and Pepsi -- yummy! (I like mixing stuff at random. I also found out that White Zin isn't bad with lemonade)

Also, I'm digging this trend of pickle brine drinks. (No seriously!) I love pickle back shots and pickle martinis.

Ok, alcoholic drinks....

For beer I recommend Doombar if you can get it in the US, otherwise seek aid from an american beer connoisseur as to which microbreweries are good.

For whiskey I recommend either Buffalo trace (if you want bourbon) or Glenfiddich 15 years old (if you want scotch).

For Rum I recommend Kraken Black or Goslings as a general drinking/mixing rum, or Wray and Nephews if you want to take 15 shots in under an hour and pass out naked on the kitchen table.

For Vodka.... im not really a vodka guy since it all tastes the same to me

For Gin I recommend Beefeater London Dry Gin

For Brandy.... i dunno but I hope to find out over summer when my brandy connoisseur grandfather comes to stay

For cocktails, I recommend Zombies, Bahama Mamas, Pina Coladas and Manhattans

For homebrewed stuff, I recommend Mead (since me and my dad are currently trying to make some)

No, I hear you on that! Everyone needs to try a pickle back shot once in their lifetime, and will probably love it. Well, maybe with the exception of Chris. (:_(

I really love a good gin and tonic, but only when it's made well. (Bombay Sapphire = :heart-full: ) The bar I frequent knows how much I love them and makes sure to garnish with three lime slices because I'm a special snowflake like that.

I generally drink a cheap local beer, and far too much of it; Doc says I have to cut back or face LIVER DOOM!

Oh, yeah, I used to rock the Gin & Tonic, back when I used to fly more. It seemed to be a staple of airport bars. I concur with the Beefeater recommendation; it's exactly the taste I think of, when I think of gin. Bombay Sapphire and Citadelle are also good, if you want a little more juniper berry kick.

I love savory cocktails, so I'm definitely a fan of the pickle and olive brine drinks. Whenever possible, I like my tomato drinks with a dill pickle spear instead of a celery stalk (though I do like celery and celery salt). I've had a good dirty pickle martini that was good, and I'm hoping to try a signature dill-pickled cherry tomato martini next time I'm in Portland (Vault in the Pearl District) or I get off my ass and pick up a good shaker set at home. I know they sell jars of those pickled cherry tomatoes online.

It was actually bothering me, not knowing... Apparently, Dr. Pepper isn't a cola, rather a "unique flavored soda." I guess that's why I like it, especially with rum. Complements spicy food pretty well.

They tell me the same thing. I don't listen.

I don't think it's possible to get yourself into liver trouble with beer. You have to go through a fifth of vodka every night for a few years or something like that. Maybe if you got totally shitfaced on beer every night it'd do the trick, but you'd have to work at it. But if the Doc says your blood chemistry is skewing into liver trouble territory, cut out everything instantly, 'cause it will fuck with you in ways you can't imagine.

I don't drink much alcohol, mostly various beers. My favourite right now is Kronenbourg but I can hardly find a decent pub that sells it.
Otherwise I just drink Pepsi, Monster (although I'm starting to feel the tingles of dependency so I'm trying to drink it less) and orange Fanta. Chris didn't ruin that for me.
Oh, and orange/blackcurrant squashes, because I'm 6 years old.

Based on what you like, you might try a bloody eight, and a dirty martini. You can get some good nutty bourbons, if you like bourbon. Maybe try a Godfather cocktail: ameretto is nutty, and the scotch balances it out so it's not so sweet. I've tried my friend's homemade hot pepper vodka...was delicious. He also did a tomato-infused vodka which had promise.

By the way, based on your avatar, and if you don't mind me asking, are you a woman? I don't think I've ever seen a woman drinking scotch neat, especially at a bar. :)

FACTOID!

Pepper vodka is the only "authentic" flavored vodka. The homebrew distillation process used to make vodka in old skool Russia / Siberia produced prussic acid as a byproduct. ("Prussic acid" is better known today as "hydrogen cyanide.") A handful of black pepper grains were thrown in before drinking, which attracted the stuff into globules that would pass through the digestive tract without killing the drinker.

Thanks for the recommendations. There's a nice place that features a ton of bourbons, not too far where I live. I like Maker's Mark with buckwheat honey, so I'll definitely branch out a bit. I'll probably try out a pepper vodka when I'm out with my Easter Bloc comrades - they know their vodkas, and if I don't like it, it won't go to waste.

I picked up the habit for room temperature single malt or chilled blended scotch (as well as barroom belligerence) from my UK collegemates, where it's apparently not so uncommon a drink for a lady.

White Russians, Low-fat Margaritas, Sangria--I like sweet drinks. Beer's too bitter for me. Also, any juice with vodka added in.
