Who wouldn’t read this and their first thought be, is this person threatening me? That would make me get my back up instantly. It’s horrifying that these badly written grade school attempts at threatening people and their livelihoods have been working.

I remember a time when sysadmins who received such threats would take them seriously enough to deem the senders unstable, block the senders from their network, and share the senders' details with their fellow sysadmins so the latter could proactively block the senders as well.

Once again, it seems worth it to remind everyone that the same people who screech on social media about targeted harassment engage in the very same thing as we see here.

Oddly enough, the sys admins who used to discuss such threats via a newgsroup would call these types of e-mails cartooney threats -- often stylized as "cart00neys" because of the over the top nature of the threats involved if the demanded action wasn't done.

I haven't heard that in years. Not a sysadmin but was on a few lists where, among other things, they'd share this kind of bullshit. I was specifically by name not allowed ever to respond to this kind of email.

Very mild PL but… they are still around, they just don’t scream their vocal cords raw. I’m still around for the time being at least and I know there are others. It’s disheartening at times, but I think cooler heads will prevail in the end.

We got better jobs where we don't have to deal with mentally retarded end users all day and get to play with fun technology instead. Sure, sometimes there are retarded developers. There's always retarded managers but at least it's not like the days of working at an ISP or a University when September rolled around.
