I mean, you could give it a couple days to see how it works out, but I think we're all too autistic to change our habits. Additional threads are fine, but people like the megathread & are accustomed to it. But like I said, couldn't hurt to wait a bit & see.

I think the Megathread is very... comfortable? AS in, it's easy to catch up to what Phil's up to without having to go through various threads.

Although that comes from someone that follows it relatively closely, I guess someone who is new to Goutsyde Phil might prefer various headlines.

Yes the 1700 pages is a bit of a problem I think. One way to tackle it without affecting much might be to have a far superior OP (as some have already suggested) including an autistically detailed timeline of events as well as links to page numbers based upon major events (like that one time when Phil touched his peepee) and also based upon date so people can more readily find shit (for example, maybe by month/year like November, 2017)

Second Option, but encourage people to posts in other threads before unlocking the mega thread. Nothing will happen if we just unlock the mega thread right away.

Agreed. That was the point of locking it for just a brief period, to make people know about the rest of it.

I can also see there is a fair amount of demand for the second option, which is going to probably end up changing things the least while improving some things (like having dedicated threads about certain things might make an easier way to point people to them instead of having to see the same information regurgitated 200x).

Unfortunately not much demand for the Amazon Turk option. I'm kinda curious to see if we could actually outsource something like this to it. Just imagine some little chinaman getting paid 4 pennies to sit through 3 minutes of one of Phil's hour long prestreams and having to annotate every nuance of his snorts and burps.

Sorry, I'm against torture on principle

I legit, 100%, looked into how much it would cost to pay workers to document his tips based on his audio, even after removing silence (which cut the length in half) it was thousands of dollars a month. lolno

I proceeded to do it for free for a month. Will not do it again.

Lol does Phil and his lazy predictable ass really deserve all this attention? I think the single forum thread was good enough. How much material can we really get out of Phil and/or how much do we really even need?

From everything I read about it and similar services, it basically drives the price up a heap as soon as you put in transcription etc. Its supposed to work best when its small tasks that are very easy/quick to do.

In my view, Phil getting a subforum was good because he was starting to attract a sphere of people who also exhibited lolcow behaviour and those people kept being discussed in the DSP thread, which diluted Phil related discussion and gave us mods a lot more work than we should have had attempting to keep the thread on topic. Basically that it meant people connected to him could be discussed in one easy to access place, while not changing much about how Phil himself was covered.

I've kind of changed my stance on this a little, since @neger psykolog had a few good ideas for separate Phil related threads, such as one speculating on what Phil's mystery financial issue is but overall I still think discussion should be contained in one core thread most of the time.

Honestly I know @Null has technical, search engine related reasons for keeping the long DSP thread going but locking the old thread and making a brand new DSP megathread would be a good way to combat the pretty intimidating 1400 pages. Maybe it wouldn't even hurt to rebrand the new thread to 'DarkSydePhil General Discussion,' or something to that effect to differentiate it and the old thread

I say keep the megathread as it is.

There is enough DSP antics as it is but due to him never learning from his mistakes he just keeps repeating the same antics. I really dont see the point of creating / watching / posting in a ton of threads. It wont get obeyed to either and likely just add to the work of mods / supervisors editing and moving posts from users posting in the megathread when it belongs in another thread.

I've seen that happen on a discord server before; one channel got split up into 2 and it was a giant clusterfuck and mods working overtime telling people they are posting in the wrong place. Also (forgive the ignorance I'm still kinda new here)

Would mods still need to give approval for those threads about big events I mean what constitutes a big event worthy of its own thread?

Would be nice if there was a way to display posts from certain years though in the megathread.

Like Beginning of thread to end of 2013, then have an option for 2014 to 2015 etc.

I'm not opening another thread for every dumb fuck thing he does, especially with so much minor chit chat about his day to day autism.

I think major events getting their own thread makes sense though. Things like the sokcast breakup or him getting fired from machinima. Because a sudden spike in 20 pages at once is a bit much.

But the general is comfy and easy to follow all the basics like his dramavlog intros.

I'm not sure if option 2 works very well with his emergency vlahgs since looking at last year they're pretty common for a brief period this partially stop. I like that there's threads on the a-logs and cringiest fans, and I suppose the Pandalee one when she was still relevant, but personally I don't know if multiple threads dedicated to the single person would work.
Either way, I'll still be here, I got on the wild ride after Mister Metokur's vids in 2015, I wanna see it until the end.

Edit: A thread to TKOH forums does sound interesting nonetheless though

"chicky chang? what he mean?"
We'll get blamed for yet another death after whoever is assigned to Phil duty throws themselves out the window.

Back on topic, I really like having his pre streams either in a separate thread, or one thread per stream. Kind of like the chris-chan sub works. It's a lot easier to digest that way.
