As has already been documented, there's been a shift in the political alignments of both lolcows and trolls. When Chris was discovered, Bush in the White House. Conservatives were the group that held the most power and a lot of the craziest voices in society were fundamentalist Christians, moral guardian censorship apologists, anti-gay-rights folks and other such right wing nutcases, so the subversive view was liberalism. Not to say people on the right weren't critical of Chris but a sizable portion of trolls and people who were on sites like 4-cent-garbage were people who were feminists and gay rights supporters and all that jazz. Then as the Obama administration wore on identity politics became a thing and suddenly the loudest, craziest, and easiest to mock voices became the liberals. The people farthest on the left, finding themselves no longer the most subversive voices, left places like Kiwi Farms. DStecks' case is far from atypical.
