Duke Nukem Forever 2001 Build Discussion

Didn't Prey run on idTech4 anyway?
That was the Human Head version that was actually released, the old one had its own engine(early screenshots were even included on the Duke3D disk). The game have a funny history, a new guy came in at 3dRealms and he had completely misunderstood what "portal technology" meant and it had given him some wild ideas. Originally it was just a fast method of occlusion culling to enable more detailed environments. Severance: Blade of Darkness used a portal system in the style of what the Prey team originally had in mind, or at least it appears so.

Ah, ok, it actually slipped my mind that Prey was as much vapour ware as DNF for a while.
Wasnt it supposed to use idtech2 for a while, too? Vaguely remember some screenshots in a gaming mag from 99 or so.

/edit: ok no, misremembered that.

Ion Maiden has a shit protagonist with shit voice lines. The AI is pretty terrible and the enemies aren't varied. They tried to emulate that style but failed to remove themselves from modern game design. The jokes in the game are also lame. I don't know what they were even going for.
You can't replicate Caleb.

Talking about Ion Fury, what engine they used for it?
Ion Fury uses a modifed version of the Build Engine, the same engine that Duke Nukem 3D was built on, along with other classics like Shadow Warrior. It's one of the selling points of IF for boomer shooter enthusiasts since, according to Google, Ion Fury is the first game in 20 years to use the engine.

First commercial game in 20 years to use it, there are a few weird games that used it over the years.

More clear heads here. Several of these guys are the head writers for the project; no modern day bullshit period.

In other news, we've managed to spruce up the HUD code (A literal mess, we drove several coders into insanity just looking at how backwards it was), begun work on the plotline for chapters 1 and 2, got our final voice actors for Duke and Dr. Proton, and just fixed the translucent hair issue. Progress goes smoothly, and in fact the team has grown with the addition of a prominent and excellent Duke 3D modder who made a prior beta recreation mod. Shit goes pretty well.
That's all well and good but I truly advise whoever your head dev is to make a public statement of intent on the discord. "Here is what we want to do. We don't want to add bullshit that wouldn't have existed in 2001. We just want to make the game as it would've been if it released in 2001-04. If any people or devs don't like that, blow it out your ass." And then stick to it.

I wanna hear Duke yell out "They hit the fucking Pentagon" as one of his lines.

I hope this is ruined by child groomers so people maybe learn a lesson about standing up to these people at the beginning. Lots of "I hope this doesn't get ruined" posts and not a lot of "let's find a way to do it better" posts. If we were all as active as the trannies maybe we'd be in charge of the projects instead of them.
I don't have the interest, skill, or time to remake a vaporware version of a game from 2001. These people do since they're terminally online retards and have nothing better to do.

Breaking news: we have a roadmap on the Duke Nukem 2001 Revival project.

Lots of progress is being done. We have SHIT TONS of fixes, lots of willing coders and voice actors; the community really is fixing the game. If anybody here has those skills, get in. The more people getting shit done, the better.

We're doing what 3D Realms and Gearbox couldn't; releasing the damn game.
After twenty fucking years, it should be good.

There is a god, and his name is Duke.

Many of these trannies don't even realise they are doing this shit.

And you are FORGETTING (I swear I am sick of people forgetting this fact) they create a culture of fear where it's hard (or at least in the sense you have no clue if you'll lose your job or be fired or whatever) to stand up to them and many of them do it as an excuse to power trip.

Once long ago I tried forking off a decently known Skyrim mod to make a "based" version after I had a dispute over the mod lead engaging in gay ops. Literally all the coders were trannies who wouldn't hear anything of it and at the time I was working so I couldn't get the time to learn myself.

Might just say fuck it and learn how to make shit in UE1. Just for nostalgia reasons.

IT'S THE INTERNET. Secure your shit and take over an internet space. Or start your own internet space and kick them out and ruin their lives by doxxing them (they make it easy) and proving that they're all groomers (they all are).

It's not that difficult to bootstrap something like this on the internet. There's only so many trannies and only so many projects they can work on. They're outnumbered by normal coders, it's just that they take over spaces and gaslight you into thinking they're the majority. Just start doing it and say "hey I'm doing this and no trannies allowed" and if it's at all popular and you market it wide enough you'll get help. I'm not an interested party in this, just a bit frustrated with the general attitude of "I hope trannies don't screw this up" because of course they will if nobody does anything to stop it.

The whole origin of FPS games (I'm reading Masters of Doom, good book) was guys who didn't give a shit about anything just making the game. We need a lot more of that attitude these days.

Out of curiousity, while this isn't related to Duke Nukem in any way, what was the mod?

the problem is more that 3D Realms' games were just never as solid as Id's to begin with, not back then and especially not now. People think of "classic boomer shooters" and their mind immediately goes to Doom and Quake, not realising that those games really were the cream of the crop of that decade.
Dunno some people also think of duke when it comes to boomer shooters also doesn't quake have a bit of a dvisive reputation with some people either loving it or pretty much consider it a tech demo also nothing tops Blood

I've heard the "it's just a glorified tech demo" critique moreso of Quake II (as an aside, Halo totally ripped off its visual aesthetic from Quake II and I refuse to believe otherwise), but the first Quake is pretty solid and advanced the FPS genre in a big way. For one thing, you could finally look up and down!

I've never played Blood so I can't comment on that game, it looks decent though.

EDIT: I have since played Blood and can confirm that @Darsheel is correct, I'm kicking myself for not checking it out until now!
