I have literally no good things to say about this movie and if you are being invited to attend a screening I would suggest you politely decline.

Synopsis
The movie picks up 20 years after the events of the last movie. I haven't seen that movie and cannot remember the names of the main characters, so I will refer to them as Dumb and Dumber. Dumb is comatose over heartbreak and has been for 20 years. Dumber has been cleaning his ass and taking care of him all of that time. After a heart-felt speech, Dumb wakes up from his coma and tells Dumber it was a prank. They laugh it off and go to Dumber's apartment. Dumber tells Dumb that he needs a kidney transplant, as his have decayed from a degenerative disorder.

Dumb says that he cannot give Dumber a kidney, because Dumber apparently has foamy urine, therefore they aren't a match. Dumb suggests going to Dumber's parents (whom he has not seen in 20 years) to ask them. Dumber's parents turn out to be asian, and after a woefully racist series of scenes, Dumber is taught that he is adopted. Dumber picks up his mail for the first time since he left, and has a postcard saying he has a child. Dumb says that they should find the child to get one of their kidneys.

After finding the biological mother, they offer to reconnect her with the lost daughter (whom had returned the only letter she had been sent). They are loaned a hearse and travel across the country to find this girl and steal her organs. The girl turns out to be a total ditz, and in the second scene she's in, she's in her underwear jumping up and down to make everything jiggle. Her adoptive father is a world-renown genius who is being poisoned by his wife. He has tasked his adopted daughter to give a speech and a gift on his behalf to the leader of a genius convention. The girl leaves without the package, her speech, or her phone.

Dumb and Dumber arrive and talk to the adoptive father. He woefully asks them to deliver the package and speech to Penny, the daughter, for him. He says to be extra careful with it, because it is an important discovery worth a billion dollars. The traitorous wife tells her lover, who is helping her poison the dad, to intercept the package and kill the pair.

I forget a lot of what happens next because it's all so fucking painful to watch it hurts. Dumb wants to fuck Dumber's daughter, they impersonate the genius at the convention and make a bunch of grueling public embarrassment gags, escape being assassinated twice, and eventually are confronted by another assassin and the wife who try to steal the package and execute Dumb, Dumber, Penny, and Penny's Biological mother who shows up for some reason. The package turns out to be cupcakes and it was a trap laid by the professor to see if the wife was conniving.

Penny turns out not to be either of the two's daughter and the biological mother sent them on the mission without telling them to rekindle the bond, deceptively. Dumber suffers a gunshot wound during the conflict and is taken to the hospital. Dumb shows up at the hospital with a cooler containing a porkchop claiming it's his kidney that he had removed in Mexico. The American surgeon confirms his kidney had been removed, but the Mexican doctor had stolen it.

Dumber then laughs and tells Dumb that he doesn't actually need a kidney transplant and the entire thing was his way of getting back at Dumb for the comatose joke. They both laugh and reconvene after Dumber has the bullet removed. They see two hot chicks and push them into a bush, then laugh and run away. The movie ends.

This is the worst movie I have ever seen

very few of the jokes were funny. very few jokes were set up and were anything more than random access humor. The characters learn nothing, do nothing, accomplish nothing, achieve nothing, and everything that happens is out of their understanding and control. There is no heart-felt character development. Penny turns out to be unrelated to either of them, so neither has to man up and become a father. At the end they're just as stupid and immature as they were before.

The most devastating thing about this movie is how old they are. The actors are both literally 20 years older, so the entire time these things are happening between middle aged men. By the end of the movie, Dumb lost as kidney and Dumber was shot. They assault women and claim multiple times to multiple people throughout the movie they don't need love in their life. They are forgettable, unproductive, unaccomplished losers who nobody would miss if they were dead and are completely unloved by everyone. After the movie ended I was angry and confused. I was left wondering the meaninglessness of life and was forced to recognize that some people would actually carry out an existence similar to Dumb and Dumber, which is completely inconsequential to everything.

I'm too scared to even watch the original again because I fear my nostalgia goggles will do nothing.

I think we had another thread about this movie that summed up to 'I like it. Give it a shot.'

We have an entire forum covering the antics of people who carry out existences similar to theirs.
That, and when they do something stupid, it's interesting, whether it's for the right or wrong reasons. Plus they aren't forced unless weens come along.

Still disappointed this became the top grossing movie the weekend when it came out.

Oh lord, I saw this thread on Wednesday literally moments after I made plans to see this movie with a friend, and I just got back from it. It fucking sucked. I can't say I had high expectations, but I at least tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. No, they literally just rehashed all the jokes from the first one and made them suck, while throwing in a few new unfunny and predicable jokes. They even rehashed the entire plot of the original (they don't even try to hide it, too. They actually show clips from the first movie alongside clips from this movie during the credits). I think the worst part of the whole thing is that Carrey and Daniels' performances seem so phoned in. In fact, I think the jokes would've been slightly funnier if the two actually gave a shit (the movie still would've sucked, but it would've sucked a bit less IMO). I'm a huge Carrey fan, so this was a massive dissapointment. There's literally just no reason for this movie to exist, especially 20 years after the original.

I think if this sequel had've come out about 15 years earlier, and they had kept the same crew, it could have worked. The Farrelly Brothers don't seem to have the same creativity or passion that they did in their younger days. It just seemed like they wanted another paycheck, and doing a Dumb & Dumber sequel was they best way of going about it, rather than doing anything original. It turned from Dumb & Dumber to "Endlessly Forgiving, and Opportunistic Psychopath."

It pretty much turned out like the Three Stooges movie, in that it had so many ingredients that could've made it work, but the existence of a few key flaws brought it down to mediocre at best.
