Dumb Shit on Wikipedia

Gave me entertaining magazines to read (also hide from my parents) when I was 13
No shit, Playboy interviews were actually really good, generally had good interviewers, who asked actually intelligent questions, and the subjects of the interview were also high quality.

In its day, Playboy actually was better for the articles than the nudie pics.

You are really late to the party man, we have a thread about the deaf "community" that treats their stupid hand signs as a great deep culture worthy of preservation instead of acknowledging that deafness is a crippling disability that should be cured to the best of our ability.
I hate any faggots who cry about muh disability and sperg out when people try to cure it some way. Sure own up being blind or deaf or an autisti or whatever, but don't act like a total retard when not everyone wants to see it as some blessing and not something that should be cured.

Chechen nationalists are a very underrated community on Wikipedia. Like take this article (archive). It's a giant mess where a bunch of Chechen nationalists trying to spin folk stories as real history. They have a bunch of citations, but the citations are all Chechen folklorists (and this guy, described by Wikipedia as a "Circassian folklorist and North Caucasus independence activist") and Chechen nationalists whose books include weird claims that historically known Mongol leaders who were ethnic Alans (aka Ossetians) were actually Chechens, which is hilariously inflammatory given the region has Balkans-tier ethnic relations. And all the sources are in Russian, yet there's no Russian Wikipedia article (but there sure is a Ukrainian Wikipedia article lol). Apparently the people writing this got banned from Russian Wikipedia for the nonsense they are peddling.

The page on the Chechens themselves is great too (archive). It claims they emigrated from the Fertile Crescent around 10,000-8,000 BC (so helped invent agriculture), are "genetically, linguistically and anthropologically considered the descendants of the Hurrians and Urartians", which comes with 10 citations, all to Chechen nationalists and fringe sources, including a German anthropologist from 1932 who writes the Chechens are not actually Caucasians, but "are the offspring of the great Hyperborean-Paleo-Asian tribe, displaced to the Caucasus, which extended from Turan through northern Mesopotamia and into Canaan."

From what I can tell, this is taking actual facts like "the ancestors of the Chechens waged a guerilla war against the Mongols" and "Urartu and the Hurrians spoke an unknown language, but it may have been in the same family as Chechen" and spinning it into crazy territory approaching the Proto-Ukrainians and the kangz of Egypt.

Nationalist history has such insane svol, it often times is more interesting to read than real history because of sheer spectacle

I think about this Misanthropic Bitch essay whenever the culturally Deaf come up.
Mad libs!

[Adjective] people can grunt and rave about not being [adjective], but not only are they deluding themselves, they're cutting themselves off from the larger society by creating an artificial one that nurtures their delusion.

Rather than attempt to become part of a society that will allow them to support themselves, they cling to each other in the Cult of [Noun]. They'll never need to accept that they're [adjective] if they surround themselves with only those who also lack the ability to [verb].

Moldova is the fakest country in existence people like to say Ukraine was invented by the Soviet Union Moldova was literally invented by the Soviet Union it has no actual historical reason to exist it's literally just part of Romania.
And many Moldovans agree with you, isn't Moldova just Bessarabia ie the part of Romania the soviets stole in the 30s?

  • Agree

It's worth pointing out that it's unscientific and not at all a poll with any kind of thought put behind it if the Trump campaign is citing it as proof of something.

Chechen nationalists are a very underrated community on Wikipedia
Nationalists for minority groups always fuck with articles, and they will rip you to shreds if you dare object to any of the shit they shoehorn in. The only thing that saves them from closer scrutiny is that there are usually no other editors who know anything about the Bingbong people, or the sources are obscure and not in English, so even if you know that they're full of shit, you can't actually prove it.

That is such a petty attempt at a insult. How exactly is it "unscientific"? What does that even mean? If they wanted to rib on him or complain they could say the poll is biased because of it's nature as a twitter poll but unscientific? Salt. So much salt.
"Unscientific" means "reee you didn't use our Experts(tm) info!" That's all it ever means.

The lovely users of Wikipedia have been bickering for months on whether or whether not to include female swimmer Riley Gaines's accusations against William 'Lia" Thomas. Users keep shutting it down because they claim that the sources are "bad" (i.e - Fox News or tabloids) and make claims that don't paint troons as delicate flowers.

Now they've reached their boiling point and are currently doing an RFC (Request for Comment) from all users available on whether or not they should be included in Thomas's article.

Bonus points, they've gone into lengthy discussion on whether they should refer to Audrey Hale as her birth name because the media kept calling her that, or to omit it entirely because of their stance against deadnaming trans-identified people. Thus calling her "Aiden" throughout the entire article.

EDIT 2: I suspect this is why the shooting page has been locked so only admin accounts can edit it for the time being.

blue lock truly is some pussy shit. it shouldn't even be a viable option unless in absolutely dire (and incredibly rare) situations when even users are vandalizing a page.

on that note: wikipedia should only allow people with accounts to edit, IP editing should be done off with permanently. IP addresses rarely if ever do anything remotely worth a shit to any article

Aaron Schwartz pbuh did a study of this actually and found the complete opposite ip address edits are something like 60-75 percent of the actual content users mainly do grammar and spelling fixes

What? Most people with accounts are massive faggots. Also half of articles on persons are promotional and all made by throwaway accounts

Vandalizing that shithole is the most based think you can do.

don't disagree with that, but what i meant was being productive to actual articles (adding sourced content etc) no IP ever does that.

i used to have good times logging out and vandalizing articles, funny how easy it is to get away with it.
