I think it's more aptly embezzlement, almost the dictionary definition of using funds entrusted to one to be used for one purpose, but it's instead used for another. Even worse how it's going to fuel America's raging culture wars.

Legit. It's popular because it makes Wikipedia editors seem like lunatics or people that have such an advanced mentality of feels-over-realz. It's a funny image in my head, and I know that there are people on this Earth that are whisked away by their own feelings so strongly that it's like they are an extraterrestrial intelligence.
The hyperlink is to wikimedia dot org. As far as I just learned that is this disgusting Wikimedia foundation which is the parent company and distinct from Wikipedia. Wikipedia is kind of like that boy (or infant factory workers) in Oliver Twist and the Wikimedia foundation is that factory owner feeding his workers gruel.
It's more that they're politically covered, much like the Red Cross when it similarly fraudulently raises money under false pretenses for one purpose with no intention of ever actually using it for that. A lot of people, if they knew the RC or the WMF had zero intention of ever using the money for its purpose, would never donate in the first place.
The wikipedias are split into languages not countries so there is no one Nigerian Wikipedia given that some 525 are spoken in the country.

That post copied the thread over from Twitter, and indeed links to the original at the top of the post. Also, I did not post in that thread, and even if I read it, it was two years ago so don't recall it.
It's Wikimedia Commons. Anyone can upload anything as long as it's freely licensed (and not illegal).
