Dumb Shit on Wikipedia

Hmm... one of these things is not like the others
I sympathetize with this reading of Acts 5. Still, citation needed.

There's a fascinating amount of articles on traditional Fijian society and how it came to be.

Under the subjection and torment of Codro the people of Lakeba continued to live in fear. Codro treated nothing as sacred and claimed anything his eyes would fall upon as his own he would stand and say 'Sikava na waitui' and anyone apposing his claim would be immediately killed and eaten. Tagi valu ko lakeba kina Yavusa Vuanirewa was the cry of the Lakeban People eventually News of this were heard in Bau where Matawalu was staying (this is where the name Matawalu Tikoibau came from).

Matawalu came to Lakeba with his Bauan relatives via Nayau and Nasaqalau. He built up his army from there before moving to Levuka where Codro was residing. They came down following the stream causing the women to say " sa vuvu mai na wai" meaning "the colour of the water has changed" thinking that it could be raining up in the mountains or people coming back from their farms as they didn't realise that Matawalu and his army had arrived. The very first man to die in this battle was standing behind a banana tree. It is said that when Matawalu swung his 'Wau' (War Club) to kill him it cut through the banana tree and decapitated the guard. The people of Levuka with Codro fled to the sea in their canoes and waited there for Matawalu's army to come and get them. As a sealord Codro shouted "Come and get me, I'm in my territory and if you think you're strong enough come and get me". Matawalu's army waited and waited for days, Codro with no food started to eat his own people. So when a particular person knows that his day is coming closer he will jump out and start swimming ashore where Matawalu's army were waiting. Codro was eventually killed and some of his remaining people fled to Aiwa, an island close by and later some went on to Oneata. They were later brought back to Lakeba and are now in Levuka. The club which Matawalu used during this battle is still to this day with his descendent's the Tokatoka Navutoka in Lakeba.

You might have a point. This is the page for Thomas Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against the Human Race.

The True Detective shit has far more description than the fucking book itself.
Is the actual book interesting to anyone but huge nerds though?

It's not surprising that there's more coverage in reliable sources, and people interested in writing about, the link to the hit TV show.

You’ve probably heard about that documentary that Corey Feldman is releasing that promises to expose the people who used both him and Corey Haim as sex toys when they were kids. You know, the one that’s been covered by all sorts of “reliable sources?” The one that Corey Feldman’s Wikipedia page makes NO MENTION of whatsoever in spite of the huge amounts of mainstream coverage it’s been getting?

They’re usually pretty on top of things, and last I checked, Feldman’s page was last modified seven hours ago as of this post. That tells me that, rather than people just being too lazy to update it, Wikipedia is actively trying to keep it off. Why? It’s definitely a notable aspect of Corey’s life and career, and has been covered by more than enough of the precious “secondary sources” they cream their pants over.

He's also been talking about exposing all of these people every time he wanted attention for 20 years. It's not doubt that pedowood is full of pedos, I just don't think Feldman has any evidence of the people who molested him and Haim.

The movie drops tonight, so I guess we’ll see.

I bet it's a big nothingburger and doesn't expose shit.

A military history YouTuber I watch posted a video yesterday, analysing Wikipedia as a source, he discussed all the usual stuff but at the 6.30 minute mark he mentioned something interesting. A story he had been told by a Tank Historian, and former Armoured Officer called Nicholas Moran, (who has his own YouTube channel called The Chieftain). Apparently he had at one point been an editor on Wikipedia, however he got in a row because of the sources they were using. Essentially Wikipedia rejected written primary sources from the archives, and preferred some pretty ropey mass market books, even though their info was demonstrably wrong.

Anyway it's worth a watch.

If you've done any research into a given subject you'll notice that 95-99% of articles on the topic are of subpar at best quality due to the sources used which range from being public domain (and thus a century-plus out of date) to sources from entirely different fields (like a quote from a travel guide) to as you said, mass market books of questionable quality. Surprisingly, the History Channel is rarely cited in history articles although has a presence in the ufology/paranormal articles (at least a while back).

Ironically the math and some science articles (i.e. chemistry) are nearly impenetrable to anyone who doesn't already know their shit about it. I believe they've received some acclaim from actual professors in those fields for the quality of the articles but also plenty of criticism because they don't do a good job at educating the public.

fyi there's a whole wikipedia project called simple english wikipedia if you need articles written in accessible language. it does a good job and most science articles are covered.

Those century-out-of-date sources are often something like the Britannica 11th Edition, which I'd consider a lot more reliable than the usual Wikipedia source, which lately is some SJW's blog full of deranged allegations.
