Dumbest Reasons a Co-Worker Got Fired

Not a coworker but a roommate of mine worked for Best Buy as a seasonal worker during the holidays. On Black Friday, him and another guy that was actually hired to be a permanent part-timer went to move a television and the other guy's pants ripped almost entirely along the back from the waist down and around to the bottom of his zipper. The supervisor told the guy he could just go to the Kohl's or Ross or whatever was in the same shopping plaza to buy a new pair of pants. Apparently the guy just left and never came back. They tried calling him more than once and he just ghosted them so they gave my roommate the permanent part-time position instead. My roommate got fired because he sold 3 Macbook Pros to a known reseller with a fake tax exemption form. Apparently 3 is the limit to discourage rich foreigners from buying out entire inventories to resell somewhere else (I don't really get it) so the reseller put his laptops in his car, put on a jacket and sunglasses, and bought another 3 Macbook Pros, tax-free, of course. The only times I've personally seen coworkers get fired have always been coworkers showing up to a shift, calling in their presence, then immediately leaving. Most of the time they'd show up like 20 mins before the shift would end to scribble a log and sign their in and out times on the roster. They'd get fired when a supervisor would show up to a site and ask where so and so was and I'd be like "walking the grounds I think." They'd call the missing coworker and tell them not to come back and that would be the last time I'd ever see them. Happened probably a dozen times in the year I was there.

Were they sleeping together
No! That's the other stupid thing!
If I said, "Two coworkers got fired at the same time for sleeping during a night shift where they were the only ones there", you'd think, "They're sneaking off into a back room and fucking."
They were literally just putting their heads down at the main front desk and going to sleep besides one another.
I think the logic was partially "We'll wake up if anything happens" but in the CCTV you can literally see alarms going off as they sleep through it.

Oh fuck me gently, being in operations for a telcom I have had quite a few retarded firing stories. let me see if I can remember a few

~Employee at one store only used one of the two POS computers, and would not let anyone else in. One day, I had to do routine maintenance, and noticed the computer was slow and modified from our stock image. I checked the browsing history and there were tumblr accounts in there, with things involving dwarfism, and breastfeeding porn.

~Franchise owner and corporate rep chose to do a surprise visit to a store. The manager on duty was supposed to be there, along with 1-2 other employees. The store was "open" but locked closed with nobody there. The reps waited for about two hours, and the manager came back and let them in, not realizing that they were her boss and her boss's boss, not just employees. It turns out that she didn't schedule anyone else, and went to do a deposit, which takes 15 minutes, and fucked off around town for a few hours while on the clock.

~Same location, different manager, I was doing audits because I kept getting notifs that deposits were not getting done. I get there, find about a month's worth of cash deposits. Take the bags to the bank, use a room there to sort them out, and it turns out that several of the days were short, a hundred here a hundred there, maxing out at 400 in one day. I note the dates, and it turns out that the manager and assistant manager were the only ones on shift when money went missing. found out later that they were room mates, but they got fired.

~Same location again (starting to think this place was cursed) , one of the managers from the above instance didn't turn in their keys. I get a call at 3am that there's an alarm going off. Fucknugget was in the store after hours, didn't turn off the alarms, and stole all the phones. Cops came to his home in the morning and he claimed it wasn't him, tho the video clearly shows the idiot using his door keys.

~Same store, ended up having to hire a hazmat cleaner, someone pissed in the hallway. Seriously, 20 feet from the bathroom, pissing in the hallway.

~different location, farther south, I stop by a store to "secret shop" and I find the morbidly obese manager lady there, with a clear plastic tote of tobacco and rolling papers up on the keyboard, rolling smokes, 3-4 of her friends behind the counter having mcdonalds. this was the first strike. She was transferred to another store, and another member of management told me they caught her day after day with a massive food spread on top of the entire front counter area, and she would spend her entire shift every day stuffing herself with food, only pausing to briefly ring up sales. When she was confronted for the customer complaints, she flipped out and tried to tear things off the wall.

~Booth inside of Costco, we had an audit and the sole middle eastern guy working at the booth managed to sexually harass the auditor, a customer, and a warehouse employee all in the course of this audit.

One of my college friends was a pretty quiet and meek guy (though funny as all hell once you got to know him, I'd even bet he lurks here) that occasionally irritated people by how introverted he was. Not the kind of person to cause problems or to stand up for himself if a teacher or authority figure got mad at him for literally existing very quietly.

He got absolutly screwed over by our new tutorial center supervisor who was a lying two faced snake for various reasons, but the most relevant to the story is that she fired old tutors for the dumbest reasons.
One of my friends was fired because of a complaint made against her a full semester prior, when bitch manager wasn't even there. Complaint boiled down to "she was focusing more on her own homework rather than helping other people".

My quiet friend though was totally fucked over, he was fired for sitting quietly talking to no one and not participating in a loud sexual conversation two students were having near him. Bitch manager randomly decided that he was part of the conversation, told him he was fired and he didn't have it in him to fight about it. I'm realizing now in hindsight this was part of our college cutting student jobs and she just decided to be particularly shitty about it.

Anyway, first, I appreciate all of you ladies and gents sharing your amusing stories with me and the rest of the forum. Thanks.

Secondly, I remembered another incident that I probably should have put in the OP but I forgot. Better late than never!

#5: When Men Act Like Boys, Bad Things Tend to Happen

I had to find this out second-hand, so I'm only going to stick to the details that I strictly can verify with others.

This happened when I wasn't at work; I believe I was on vacation when it happened. So, I had a coworker named... "Trent". I'm not entirely sure of his age; he's either an extremely young Millennial or an older Zoomer. I think it's more the latter. He was okay, I guess, but he had a certain... lack of maturity that prevented him from really doing well at his job; at least, not well enough to earn the yearly bonuses he so desperately craved. He also was more thin-skinned than he let on. Oh, sure, he could dish it out no problem, but he couldn't take it. Insulting his gains was a big trigger for him; he was kind of a wannabe gym bro.

We also had another coworker named... Aaron. I didn't know Aaron too well because he wasn't around very long. One day, he somehow thought it would be funny to throw a pen at the back of Trent. Now, my factory is really trying to get workers to stop that kind of horseplay; joking around a little is okay, mostly if it's verbal, but throwing objects or roughhousing is a good way for someone to get hurt or maybe trip over something. Most people got the message and knocked it off quickly, but some people have to learn the hard way.

Now, what should have happened was someone reported to the managers what Aaron did, he would have gotten a warning, and everything would have been okay. What actually happened is that Trent went ballistic and started to beat the ever-living shit out of Aaron. I don't know if Aaron fought back -I sadly forgot that detail- but several coworkers had to physically separate the two. Both were promptly fired and never seen again.

I've seen enough people come and go to know that the old adage "Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional" is very much true, but it's not every day that I see the direct consequences of refusing to grow up like this.

I worked with a guy who, once he got a door key, snuck back into work after everyone had left. He the proceeds to Solid Snake crawl along the floor to avoid detection by the cameras (which naturally caught a view of said floor), before stealing from a safe that he already knew had less than $1000 in it. It really is too bad, because he really seemed to be on the path of turning his life around, and I was rooting for him to do so.

Something like this happened at my old job. Guy was doing pretty well. Then he stole 50 bucks out of someone's purse, on camera, in the most visible way possible. I still believe he was actually sober. It was more of a low empathy type of theft, a "I'll do it solely because I think I won't get caught and I deserve what I can get" situation.

I think he probably had stolen even smaller amounts and gone unnoticed, unfortunately.

I don't let anyone see where I keep my money on me for reasons like this.

Had another guy get caught on camera stealing a phone from one of the teenage girls that worked there. Later, they confirmed him on camera at the cash for phones kiosk at the nearby Walmart. The best part was when he wrote an open letter to the staff about how he was innocent and was being persecuted for no reason.

I have many such stories, but I also share them a lot IRL and some people know I frequent the forum. It is probably not a great idea to share them all here.

So I'll pick just one.

We had this employee who was not doing so great. She was not bad per say, but she required excessive assistance for tasks she should have mastered months ago.

The boss was nice and patient with her, because her limitations made it obvious that no matter how much effort she would put in, results would remain similar.

She was still up for a performance review the next week. Proceeded to go out drinking with a large group of colleagues during the week end and told them all that she was not too worried about it, because the boss clearly wanted to fuck her.

Obviously, this was passed on, and she had to leave. Not so patient and nice anymore once he heard this.

My first job in my later high school years saw me working as a stock boy in a hardware store. I was off at the time, but my neighbor who I worked with when I first started there got fired when he decided to moon one of the other stock boys in the back room and one of the co-owners happened to see it as well.

A guy I've known since 7th grade used to know some of the characters in our hometown's downtown. One was a guy I'll call Harry. According to my friend, Harry was gay, loved to dress like a pirate, and worked for some local greasy spoon... until he was suddenly and glaringly absent. My friend casually asked what happened to Harry one day after paying his bill and the owner got absolutely mad and mentioned that Harry had been fired after he had been caught masturbating openly in the break room.

I also know of someone who lost their unionized job when they called a female supervisor a "bitch" right in front of a union steward and someone else who, if I recall, was another manager, making it impossible for the steward to stand up for the employee during the grievance hearing without it costing the steward's own professional reputation and credibility.

When I was still in the IT field, a contract worker from a different vendor that provided outsourced tech support at that particular client site was caught with a very large stash of porn which would have gone undetected if my onsite supervisor hadn't discovered someone (he) had disabled the internet firewall that filtered porn sites.

I remember this, one of the managers at the place I worked in was pulled over for DUI, cops searched his car and found tons of cartons of cigarettes in the back of his vehicle.
He was stealing them and selling them to friends. So he got grand theft on top of the DUI.
Another one hid a pair of headphones by the loading docks; someone found them and told security, security put them back in the hiding spot and caught one of the produce guys retrieving them after his shift. Lost a good job with benefits over a $15 pair of headphones
