Hello, Dunsparce here. I've decided to share with you some things I found while grocery shopping today.
Near the checkout I saw there two very cheaply made boxes. The first one said "Anime Cards":

Note the copyright-dodging Charizard clone. Apparently it comes with 10 booster packs of anime-based cards and a dogtag of some kind.

The other was far more Revealing:

"Entertainment Cards" on the outside I could make out the Simpsons and that animated movie Anastasia. Odd combination. It apparently has double the packs in it. What a bargain!

They were relatively cheap, $5.99 each, so I bought them to share what I find with everyone here.

When I first removed the cellophane I realized how cheap and low-end the cardboard of the boxes were. I didn't expect them to be high-grade, but they were worse than I thought they'd be.

Now, let us first look at the contents of the smaller of the two:

-1 Avatar the Last Airbender Pack (Technically not anime, but oh well, it's close enough. It's an actual game it seems. The pack came with one very thick character card and a bunch of thinner ability ones)
-2 Ben 10 Packs (Not anime either. Also a game, comes with one holo per pack. The oddest thing is one of the holos can't be used in the game. It's a simplided almost pure gold card with a sumo wrestler on it, and the back is a non-holographic closeup of his face. No text or anything connecting it to the Ben10 franchise at all unless someone who's actually a fan could figure it out)
-2 Dragon Ball Z Packs(Another game, seems to have 1-2 holos per booster. I don't know what's up with all of these cardgames no-one couls easily find someone to play with)
-2 Shaman King Packs (Once again, an actual game. Comes with a thick character card like the Avatar game)
-3 Xiaolin Showdown Packs (Not anime either. Also a game and it seems that you can get holos, just not in every pack. Each booster comes with one of four checklists with ads for the cardgame on the back)
-1 Bakugan Dogtag (Comes with a sheet with three stickers and a cheep dogtag with a monster from the series.)

Wow, the creators of this box has a very loose definition of Anime. And despite there being a Charizrd clone on the outside nothing Pokemon related was in it. What a shocker! I can imagine Weeaboos on a budget falling for these. Theyy'd freak over those BAKA GAIJIN cartoons in it.

Okay, now it's time for the 20-pack box:

-4 Anastasia Packs (They just depicts screenshots from the movie on both sides with no text except for one oddly-shaped character card I got of Anastasia herself which I'm guessing is a "rare" card)
-1 Igor Pack (Shows scenes and early sketches from the movie, rares have an odd shape as well apparently)
-1 Kung-Fu Panda 2 Pack (Depicts characters and scenes from the movie with info on the back. Also came with a temporary tattoo and one of those "pop-up" cards)
-3 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Packs (Various scenes, characters/Zord pics, ect. with info on the backs of them. One foil per pack)
-1 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Pack with "Power Cap" (Nearly Identical to the other packs except slightly different coloring and it has a pog with it)
-1 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie Pack (Alot of the same but with a completely different format)
-1 Power Rangers Dino Thunder Pack (Seems to be an actual game unlike the rest. Like all others on these lists, good luck finding someone to play with in 2013)
-1 The Simpsons Pack (This is another actual game. A bit more complex then the other ones)
-1 Space Jam Pack (Various scenes and character pictures. stuff like info and small puzzles on the back. Also it seems you can get multiples of the same card in one pack)
-1 The Tale of Despereaux Pack (Character abd early sketches with info on the back. Nothing fancy)
-4 X-men Packs (Oddly one had the picture on the front going vertically rather than horizontally like the other three. Looking through the contents it seems to be a different expansion. Both types of cards have character picture with either info or quotes on the back. Interstingly they seem to be based on the comics themselves rather than any adaption. They all come with a now-defunct offer for a chance to win a super rare card)
-1 YuYu Hakusho Packs(WHY WASN'T THIS IN THE ANIME BOX RATHER THAN THOSE NON-ANIME CARDS?! Another game no-one will ever play ever.)

Wow, imagine being a kid getting this, only to find a bunch of cards mostly based off of series and movies well before your time. Granted, at least this one gave a sneak peak of what was in it, but.

Conclusion:
Really, there must have been a lot of access cards from various series and movies that for some reason companies thought people would buy in droves, especially since most of these have actual games built to play with them. I can't imagine how many of these were made to get rid of the surpluses of failed ideas.

When I'm assed enough I'll upload pictures of choice cards later.

Re: Dunsparce wastes his time and money to go over boxes of

Hey, back in High School me and my freinds played DBZ.

Re: Dunsparce wastes his time and money to go over boxes of

The sumo wrestler in the Ben 10 pack actually does make sense. In the show, there's a franchise called Sumo Slammers which has everything, games, shows, card games, cereals.
...
I am mildly embarrassed that I know that.

Re: Dunsparce wastes his time and money to go over boxes of

Someone has been watching too many Ashens videos...

Wow, Power Rangers! Those ones are like from the 90s, good find! I'm such a Power Rangers 'tard and they have POGS?! Wow, I was a little too young for the pog fad, but I definitely want to have a better look at them when I see you again IRL. You better not throw them away!

Also, the Anastasia cards? Anastasia is like, my childhood. (even though it was immediately ruined after the remains of her body were found in 2003...) Those cards pique my interest too.

Re: Dunsparce wastes his time and money to go over boxes of

I'm sort of surprised that anime labeled box even had anything anime related in it, I was mostly expecting ripoff anime cards alongside the American cartoon cards. Too bad they didn't try to fool people with Pokemon cards featuring anime screencaps instead of the Pokemon Trading Card game.

Re: Dunsparce wastes his time and money to go over boxes of

yeah, I had a lot of those anime screencap pokemon cards. I also think I had some of those Anastasia cards, but alas, my mother gave them all away.

Re: Dunsparce wastes his time and money to go over boxes of

The pack of Space Jam cards blew my mind. Isn't that movie like twenty years old? Why are there still back stocks of Space Jam trading cards that need to be liquidated via cheap-ass grocery store card boxes?

Pretty sure the Power Rangers cards are even older. I could be wrong, but they're cards based on the original series, which premiered here in the very early 90's (I think Space Jam came out in 97 or 98). The pog is a giveaway about the age: I had pogs (lots of 'em!) and they fell out of favor in the mid 90's or so. That's gotta be confusing for the kids who get the entertainment box: not only do you get cards they have no idea who the fuck is on them, they get a bonus cardboard circle thing they can't do anything with, except maybe as a substitute Pokemon coin.

I'm pretty sure I had some of those packs back in the day. I had a few power ranger pogs
