You know, at least A night in the Woods and Goodbye Volcano High had some redeeming features
the former is nice and colorful with good music
the latter is mercifully short when watching a playthrough at double the speed and skipping the pointless DnD parts.
Dustborn is special tho, it is a game that is just so shamelessly annoying and boring that I cant bring myself to watch a full playthrough of it. Im not kidding, our main cast is so unbearably annoying that my only sane course of action is go watch something else, like porn, or asmr, or asmr porn. I know a few bits and pieces of the lore and characters through osmosis but those bits are enough to make me conclude that, well, "I fucking hate everyone in this."
A night in the woods and GBVH's characters somehow didnt erupt this level of disgust in me, just annoyance, Dustborn's characters were actually able to make me wish they'd all die. Which is very rare to do and only reserved for very special characters written by the most spiteful shameless mfs in this cursed industry.
The game was a flop, maybe not a financial drain given that the taxpayer paid for this (you aint ever getting that money back, suckas). I can only hope the devs fade into obscurity because for narcissists like them, that might as well be the worst thing that could happen.
Dustborn will be remembered but not for the reasons they wanted...Even normies are fucking done with these games, or at least this blantantly political (games like B.G 3 and KCD2 are enjoyed despite being woke but at least they have other things to keep normies engaged)
But I'm also fucking curious about the man of the hour, Ragnar Tornquist, and I really wanna know more about how his mind ticks. All his Wikipedia page says is that he's a huge fanboy of Joss Whedon and Neil Gaiman, which makes a lot of sense cuz it seems like all of those modern retarded hack writers like to take inspiration from Neckbeard Supreme Whedon. Does make me wonder how they feel about their idol being a total creep behind the scenes of their favorite retarded quippy show about a blonde bimbo and vampires.
Josh Whedon and its consequences have been a disaster for the entertainment industry.
I unironically wish that The Avengers had been a flop so they wouldnt be motivated in following in his dumb ass style.
We've got kids unironically acting like the pricks in this game are "cool" and "totally relatable" because it gives them an outlet for all the shit they've dealt with. The type of crap you see in Dustborn might be over-the-top, but... it's a pretty good look at what kids are really taught in schools and even universities.
To related what I said at the top, I think a reason why the characters legit get on my nerves is because at least ANITW and GBVH had characters that were either exaggerated as perfect to fit some sort of woke fantasy dystopia or were ultimately harmless. I knew people like Mae and they were annoying, sure but, again, harmless. I dont know people like GBVH's Fang and crew because they are so exaggerated that I know they dont really exist outside of the mind of the devs.
Dustborn's characters tho? They are arrogant, narcissistic, irresponsible, pretentious, apathetic and very very sociopathically manipulative. And you know what? I MET PEOPLE LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE! I DEAL WITH THEM ALMOST DAILY! AND DUSTBORN HAS THEM WITH X-MEN LIKE SUPER POWERS! And our lead is argurably the worst one as she literally can fuck with people's minds and doesnt seem to have a bit of hesitation in abusing them, a lot of times for extremely petty reasons and she refuses to accept the blame on anything.
So basically nearly everyone is a variation of THIS lovely character
They want this monster to be your relatable lovable lead that you are rotting for? Say whatever you want about The Boys but at least they do make it clear you arent suppose to be rotting for Homelander and the Seven, their sociopathic behavior is portrayed as vile. You are suppose to LIKE the Dustborn crew.
A disturbingly high number of writers these days all seem to be into writing awful people and have the story portray them as either as the good guys or at least "justified" because of the reasons you might expect from woke creatives. It reveals more about them than the characters honestly.
