I bought a Dreamcast at a thrift store a few years ago, but I never had a lot of time to play it. I've decided to make some fun offline time for myself in the near future. When I first got it, I downloaded and burned most of the games for it, and I'd like some recommendations. I'll give almost any type of game a chance, but I'm not into professional sports titles, and no Sanic. I really liked Soul Calibur and Armada.

I have that one and will give it a try. I don't seem to have Illbleed, but will try to find it when I have more CDR's

I hear Skies of Arcadia is really good.

I'm C-no ing this thread to talk about how great nintendo is.

Seconded JET SET RAAADDDIIOOOOOOO.

Crazy Taxi is a nice little game too.

What is a fucking GIGGLE if you wanna spend a little bit of money is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaman_(video_game). The DC mics go for like £10 or something (I got mine for considerably less). It is just a lame sort of Tamagotchi game but with a really bizarre twist. When you boot up the game there's a really weird intro by Leonard Nemoy (the narrator and tutorialmaster of the game) about some shit I don't remember evolution or some shit. Then it becomes your job to look after these FREAKISH HUMAN FACED MONSTROSITIES THAT TAKE ON THE FORM OF FISH. You need a mic for the game as when it progresses, you can talk to and influence their speech and shit. Its a very weird game that's awesome if you're into that shit, and still bizarre enough to warrant everyone playing once.

Obviously I've heard a lot of hype about Shenmue and Shenmue 2 but I've not played them.

Anything that was on the ps1 and also dc I don't really see worth playing. Like Resident Evil was on the DC, I downloaded it but meh I've played it before and that game aged very very badly.

I found that there weren't really that many games worth playing though... lots of shit sounded interesting, I downloaded it and it was pretty meh.
Melchett's list of disappointing DC games:
Omikron: expectation - David Bowie: The Video Game

reality - some shitty shooty thing that was buggy as all hell for me.
Phantasy Star Online: expectation - some awesome hack and slash
reality - a really really difficult to set up hack n slash, not worth all the bullshit it took to set it all up (:_(
Any and all Sonic Games: I haven't played any properly since the MegaDrive so yeah, I thought I'd give Sonic Adventure a go, it was shit. So I gave some other really weird fucking Sonic card game bullshit a go, it was shit.
Chu Chu Rocket: expectation - none, it came bundled with my DC.

A lot of the best games on the Dreamcast like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi were ported after the fact. Like both of those games are also on Steam. Indeed the Sonic games like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 were both ported to PC/360/PS3.

As Melchett has stated the Dreamcast has a lot of multiplats that were also on the PS1 and N64. Stuff like Resi, Star Wars Episode One Racer etc. Most of them are very good games but you can also find them on other platforms.

Then again the advantage the Dreamcast has is it cleans up much better on an HDTV if you have the right cables. Since it outputs in a very clean 480p signal.

I've thought about getting a Dreamcast myself but I can only foresee playing maybe 10 games on it, and that's not enough for me to warrant buying another console.

ECCO THE DOLPHIN: DEFENDER OF THE FUTURE

Get it! It's a great game! It had great graphics for the Dreamcast era, and the plot is sci-fi with time travel. You get to travel through different underwater environments (The game takes place in three timelines), each with their own unique atmosphere. The soundtrack is amazing, and each tune fits its level really well. It was a very lovingly crafted game.

How I wish the spinny disky thing on my Dreamcast still worked.
