Dwarf Fortress 2014

The DF community should qualify as Lolcows. Idiots argue over nearly anything. Some sperg left a message on the forum bitching about the direction the game is going, and then kept arguing. For 20 pages.

I saw that thread. He was mad about the change from 2d to 3d that happened I think 4-5 years ago?

I normally don't go on the Bay12 forums (cwcki is enough autism for me already) but this looks like a hoot to read on the way to work.

I think I'll wait until Dwarf Therapist is ported over to DF2014 before trying it because it's such a timesaver.

So Adventure Mode now has a pokedex.

I decided to start a new fort. the first trader who arrived had nothing but a billion useless rock trinkets like mugs (AKA the cheif EXPORT of any Fortress) and like, 9 barrels of cat blood. I... did not investigate further.

For some reason, low ranking members of my forts keep becoming the monarchs of the civilization around 1 year into the game. In this case, my legendary miner.

On another note, I keep getting sieges in the first fall, and traders keep going berserk and attacking my mechanics.

I had a game where something similar happened and I was pretty sure that the main dwarf civilization was either extinct or teetering on the edge of extinction at the time. It's possible your miner was the next in the royal line of succession or something.

I began a fortress in a civilization that had only one active site, with only the queen to rule over it. A short while into playing, I checked the civilization screen to find that the queen had appointed a group of barons from the local drunks. Unfortunately, she failed to do so with an outpost liaison.

If there's no civilization left, one of the starting 7 just sorta randomly gets it. Civ's going extinct is kinda a bit often right now as invasions always succeed in wold gen because it's the fun part of the patch cycle where everything is broken. My last fort had no Humans or Kobolds. Might be worth it to switch to 125 year woldgens instead of 250 so the world doesn't get too trashed. Or up the number of civilizations generated on worldgen.

In other news, the dwarven King decided to come to my fortress early because we struck Adamantine, However apparently nobody told him about the fact that we're in an evil biome, so the last 4 seiges all reanimated and the surface is entirely sealed off except for a magma "airlock" system that migrants and traders sometimes are lucky enough to make it to before the zombies get them. He was not that lucky.

Oh my god Vaults and Dark Fortresses may be the most badass places in the entire game :o I'm grinding the hell out of an adventurer to try and make it through one, will give some details if he doesn't die instantly or get frozen in the river again.
