I cucked, I bought the steam version. After 17 years I finally gave Taryn some money… (and Kitfox and Gaben)

I am having !!!FUN!!! But honestly, the main reason for getting it was that I wanted to get DFhack working. I thought I would also be able to get to a therapist working but I don’t know what’s happened. It seems like nobody’s updating it as the latest memory maps for DFTherapist are still stuck on like. 53.02 (there is a PR to make it .05)
You dont need dwarf therapist with the Steam Version anymore, the game itself shows you wich dwaves are unhappy and who are happy, dfhack is a must though, i've experienced weird shit like animals unable to leave the map and so no new animals spawn unless they are killed, this is specially annoying if the animal flies as well as things that existed in previous versions that doesnt anymore in the steam one for unknown retarded reasons.

Yer I just recently noticed this too. The reason I wanted it is because I don’t like putting pregnant women and the disabled into my squads but now DFhack has filters for that.

I also need a DFH recently because I’ve had a died who’s been in hospital for four years going through my stitches and soap, they were getting treatment constantly. I just don’t know why they weren’t getting better so I had to use the heal command on them.

Unless they really messed up the memory structure in between versions, you can invoke this command with an updated DF hack:
devel/export-dt-ini
https://docs.dfhack.org/en/latest/docs/tools/devel/export-dt-ini.html
You then copy that ini file into your dwarf therapist folder. The location varies depending on operating system, like I think on Windows, it's in %appdata%.

90% of the time it works, as long as DF Hack is updated, but if therapist has not. The other 10% of the time, you just have to wait for an update.

I personally like therapist because it makes it easier to cull sexual degenerates and fix squads.

How do I get these damn dwarves to throw bodies and cages into pits/lava? So here's my big issue. The seige update is fun but it's left me with an absurd number of corpses and enemies that got caught into cage traps. Seriously half the map is one giant corpse disposal zone. None of my dwarves can go top side because if they do they get hit with mega sadness from having to walk over 30 dead goblins just to go fishing. I have a pit of lava. I would like to chuck the corpses and caged enemies into it. Just let fire take care of it. But I cant quite figure it out. Last time I tried this I tried making a pit dumping zone, but the issue is they kept taking the prisoners out of the cages to toss them in and the prisoners started fighting back the moment they were taken out of the cages. anyone have any ideas?

I believe for a Dumping Zone to work over Z levels, you need to place the zone on the walkway around the Z drop. Something like this:

Code:
+++++
+ZZZ+
+Z.Z+
+ZZZ+
+++++
Where...

+ is floor
Z is your Dump Zone
and . is the open space leading to a vertical drop.

I've had success with the Pit/Pond zoning method, by tunneling down to the magma layers to throw POWs down. My recommendation is this:
  • Minimize walking distance between cages and execution hole
  • Lay cage traps down along the path to the hole, as well as any area leading into the fort
  • Order a prisoner to be thrown down ONE AT A TIME
  • Repeat
Every now and then, I get a "Break Out" where the prisoner isn't handled correctly and is freed instead of being hauled to the hole, but if you anticipated that with traps, then they should be recaptured so you can try again very shortly. That's a pretty reliable method for getting rid of POWs in my experience. Lets you reuse the cage when you're all done, too.

I am located on the shore of an ocean. Any experience with just tossing them in the deep end of the ocean and drowning them? So far it mostly seems to be humand and goblins attacking and I dont imagine their used to being deep sea swimers.

Did you try just designating the actual cages themselves? Or just haul the cages to somewhere with a floodgate or a retractable/raisable bridge (floodgates suck and there's no real reason to use them) to flood whatever room you put them in with magma?

I believe you have to build the cage where you want it as a furniture item because if you just directly haul the cage it lets the gobbo or whatever out. That's probably what's happening with your dump zone. Use disposable dwarves or the ones with "this nigga seen so much shit he cares about nothing any more" tag.

You probably also want the cages made of magma-proof materials, and some way of draining the crematorium somewhere else so you can reuse it.

Or you could just use dfhack to delete them but that would be pretty gay.

I've often used something I called a "Therapy Bridge" for perpetually stressed dwarves. This is a raisable bridge next to magma. I put the aggrieved dwarf into a squad on his own and station him there, then use a switch at a remote location (so whoever pulls the switch doesn't get stressed by having to see it) to launch him into magma and cure what ails him. Another plus of this is sometimes you discover the caverns while the dwarf is sinking through the magma.

This would work with bodies because they're treated as objects, but the problem with just moving cages is it releases whatever is in them, and I forget whether or not you can build a cage as furniture on a bridge. I think you can't but I'm not sure (AI says you can but AI says a lot of dumb shit).

Either put the cage stockpile near the pit or place the cage in a platform of some renewable material to drop them to their death once you free them with a lever, with zones you set up the pit/pond zone then you tel the dwarves to pick up the animal and throw them to the designated spot, also make sure to strip them naked and, again, make sure that is close because the longer the treck is to the pit the more chances the goblin has to start a fight and break free, personally i just put all cages in a platform and then drop it to the magma sea. I had way too many incidents of goblins breaking free and wrestling my dwarves to death.

Part of the awesomeness of this game is how many ways there are to throw things into magma, flood places with magma, and just in general, magma. Magma is the dorfiest thing ever.

Someone needs to redo this song, but rename it "Threw It Into Magma."

If you don’t need to reuse the cages, and why would you?, just bridge them or even atom smasher them.

But more amusing to let them survive the drop and use them as distant early warning systems for forgotten beasts.

Is the non-steam version even ever going to get updates anymore or is it steam forever and ever?
