I'm trying to convert a PDF book to EPUB to make it compatible with Cool Reader on my Android phone. I tried a bunch of different programs including Calibre, but the biggest issue is that the book contains so called "ligatures". Ligatures are two characters morphed into one and every damn program just omits them. I'm pasting a screenshot below because those characters don't seem to exist in any commonly used character set.

You can't select T and h individually. I looked for workarounds, but it looks like a tough nut to crack. Can someone help me out? Maybe there's an efficient OCR based converter, I don't know. The book in question is Crowbar by Andrew Edwards. I don't want to post direct links here, but you can find it on a site called OceanofPDF.
