E-shop version of Pokemon Sword/Shield allegedly deleting all the save data on OTHER games - They didn't just delete a bunch of Pokemon, they are deleting your save files too

Decided to look this up after seeing some Chinese players reeee about their save files.
Closest I can find was a Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/dwl78k/warning_to_those_who_are_playing_the_eshop/

There's several sources and a video of a confused Japanese player encountering the glitch, which effectively ovened all his data.

What was happening in the video according to a poster:
I watched the entire video you linked (7min+), and it seems the save data are all back after he rebooted the system.
  1. He was playing Pokemon Sword and suddenly the game crashed
  2. He couldn't reopen Pokemon Sword and the system asked him to redownload
  3. He tried to redownload but it said there were no enough space
  4. He checked the storage (games and saves), and apparently there was plenty of space left
  5. Many of the game saves were shown to be 0MB
  6. He rebooted the Switch
  7. The system said his SD card couldn't be recognized and asked to format the SD card, which he declined
  8. The Fit Ring software mysterious appeared as the first title on the screen, before Pokemon Sword
  9. He tapped Pokemon Sword icon and initiated the download again
  10. While it was downloading, he went to check his game saves, and all the save files are still there (of varying sizes raining from several MB to several hundred MB)
  11. He checked his album but everything after 7 month ago were missing. (I suppose the missing ones were stored in his SD card)

(This game is doing anything from crashing, deleting save files for all games, corrupting games, bricking systems, and probably even secretly selling all of your pokemon to a wooloo)

So apparently saves are backed up to a cloud so it's mostly a non-issue even if the files are all deleted, however some games I've heard do not have this feature.

Some games don't have the ability to save on the cloud for some reason, such as Splatoon 2 and even Pokemon itself. How did they go months without noticing this?
Edit: I also must remind: You have to have a Nintendo Switch Online membership to have cloud saves.

Also, mind you, Pokemon games tend to go MONTHS unpatched. Game Freak are that bad.

I thought the way the Playstation Vita handled its game saves was pretty stupid back then, by forcing you to transfer the entire game from your memory card to the PC.

But now Nintendo wants you to pay for cloud backup or otherwise your locked-up game saves will be corrupted by their own incompetency. Amazing.

I assumed they did that because the games data was big as fuck most of the time so I never really minded. Also it never did that to the ps1/psp classics saves after deleting the digis apps which is why I assumed it had to do with data handling.

Anyways my Pokemon sword is working fine, I was able to kill Artorias and later Sif, went back to DS2 and my save data was still there.

Definitely a bunch of ciswhitemales who feel entitled and probably rape women every day.

The score is out of 5 or 10? 5 would make this game crap, 10 would mean it's horrible and everyone should avoid it... I think it's 5 right?

Guessing it's 10, as there are 10 bars in that rate it thing, but don't know. edit: beaten.
