I've noticed when you've got polygon models trying to replace sprites they often lack the pleasant "chunky" look the sprites had. The models look thinner and don't stand out enough, probably because they lack the outlines. It's even noticeable in games like Mighty Number 9 where there never were sprites, but should have been.Does anyone else think Metroid Dread and Advance Wars look cheap? I just watched their trailers again. The original GBA Advance Wars had some of the best sprite art on the system and this one is just simple plastic polygon models with vectorized character portraits that move awkwardly. With Dread it's not even the upscaled 3DS style visuals so much, but the visual aesthetic for the environments. Kinda boring. Granted that was just the first area.
Metroid Dread probably could have looked REALLY nice with some finely crafted pixel art, but I'm just happy we're getting a new Metroid, I guess.
