Does anyone else think Metroid Dread and Advance Wars look cheap? I just watched their trailers again. The original GBA Advance Wars had some of the best sprite art on the system and this one is just simple plastic polygon models with vectorized character portraits that move awkwardly. With Dread it's not even the upscaled 3DS style visuals so much, but the visual aesthetic for the environments. Kinda boring. Granted that was just the first area.
I've noticed when you've got polygon models trying to replace sprites they often lack the pleasant "chunky" look the sprites had. The models look thinner and don't stand out enough, probably because they lack the outlines. It's even noticeable in games like Mighty Number 9 where there never were sprites, but should have been.

Metroid Dread probably could have looked REALLY nice with some finely crafted pixel art, but I'm just happy we're getting a new Metroid, I guess.

I think the visuals look kind of better than Samus Returns but its still not what I look for in Metroid. Even disregarding the decision to make it 2.5D, the art style seems too friendly. I don't know how exactly to put it. Sterile? I remember Super Metroid and Fusion looking kind of creepy or sinister or something. Lots of secondary colours and grimy environments.

What worst is, this is going to be fucking true about Metroid Dread. The remake of Samus Returns was great and it sold like dogshit, the company that made it wanted to do a Fusion remake, Nintendo had them do 2 first and it bombed.
Metroid has always been a more niche Nintendo series, and when you go so long without proper marketing and content only the hardcore fans will be left to support you.

Same with Shin Megami Tensei. Atlus might port SMTV to other platforms before Persona 5.

Smashfags aren't going to like the prediction I have for their final character in their final fighter pass
>Blue Hair like Marth from Fire Emblem
>Sword(hand)

He's in

Actually... my dad works at Nintendo and this is the final fighter pass character.

Yesterday: ugh 2d bullshit sprite art sucks learn to render
Today: ugh 3d bullshit models suck learn to make spritesheets

(Im sure you didnt say anything I just think the juxtaposition is hilarious)
I saw people (I'm guessing disappointed Prime secondaries) screaming "2D is trash" in the chat of the stream I was watching. It made me shed a tear like that old native American guy.

Will likely leak within the next year. never though I'd see the leaked development builds of Diamond and Pearl, but here we are.
Its not as likely as you think. All the gigaleak stuff came from a single place, which as far as we know didn't include Metroid anything. If anything, I wouldn't be suprised if we get the cancelled Bandai Prime 4 leaks before the DS or N64 Dread builds.

Early builds of mighty number 9 used 2d frame by frame animation kinda like "warioland shake it!" But they changed it to 3d and then also cheaped out on some shit very visibly so. It was a fucking disaster on several levels because they not only changed to 3d and altered the old preview images to have disclaimers, but they crudely inflated Bec's hands, feet, and head making him look like a weird bootleg of megaman from the psp remake of megaman 1 without any of the charisma that game had.

This metroid actually looks nice, albeit a bit strange. It's got the vibe of fusion but translated to 3d visuals-wise.

Overall this direct was kinda dissapointing, but there were some really good announcements of actual nintendo games like Metroid, Wario, and Zelda. The retread of the rabbids trailer was pure fucking filler and the added narrator guy just felt weirdly forced in to excuse the time being padded out by the retread announcement.

I'm dissapointed by the smash reveal because it's like reskinned ryu with different moves more or less. I've been waiting for the game-important characters that are weirdly omitted from the spirit list to be anounced as DLC and we still haven't seen even one of the fucking guys show up. Last fighter pass character is probably going to be a stinker like byleth was, just got a bad feeling overall about it. Glad this characters in it just feels like gross with how it looks like they did it in a kinda low-ish effort way compared to other dlc characters.

Pretty good show from Nintendo. Just showed games and there's a few things i'm interested in. A different approach than MS who pretty much threw money at devs so that they could pack out Gamepass.

The platform holders had a decent E3 but the rest of the industry needs to get their shit together. This inclusiveness shit is going to do huge damage if it keeps going.

The people you are trying to appease aren't your core audience, they will drive those people away and then leave the smouldering wreckage to move onto the next thing.

I liked the gameplay look of Dread. The graphics might not be the best I thought it was expertly done for model sizing and backgrounds. The map screen left something to be desired but the game isn't done yet, it could be changed or have more features enabled. I wonder if Mercury Storm is involved or if Nintendo is going it alone. They didn't say anything in the presentation but my suspicion is they are since some of the things they added in their game are being carried on.
