EA hit with mass layoffs

A single extremely minor transgender side character = “Z0MG its tumblr the game!!!”

It’s the political opinions from the developers which clearly influenced the development of the game.

There was also bizarre things about it like how they made the main female preset look hideous despite being based on a gorgeous model (something they didn’t do to the main male preset because I guess men aren’t insecure about their appearances) and how at launch it wasn’t possible to make a character with pale skin.

I played the game at launch and made a caucasian character, and I had spergs who hadn’t touched it tell me I was wrong lol

But no, there was no sjw shit in the actual game itself.

I think you’re painting the quality of the game as more of BioWare just being incompetent. Instead the agreed upon theory that they made the characters look hideous on purpose for a political message. I’m not sure which one is worse.

Well the second one is insane and the first is actually what happened, but I dunno which is worse.

Reminder that Bioware made Yvonne Strahovski look like Michael Jackson despite access to many tens of millions of dollars worth of top-of-the-line capture technology. They're just incompetent. I mean, they're woke too but it doesn't impact their games all that much from a writing perspective because their games are mostly very shallow.

I remember as a kid when word of mouth was the most effective way to influence buying a game.

If you build it, they will come.

Just focus on making good games sheesh
We're getting there again. The internet is beautiful. I mean, yeah, the people on youtube and twitch are often payed shills but they still play the game in front of you. If it's shit, they can't hide it no matter how hard they spin.

Get woke, go broke?

So, it turns out the glutton is starting to starve.

Ironic.

I (like all of you) wish that EA was dying, but it's not even remotely the case. These are just routine layoffs as it's a churn-and-burn industry, especially for a marketing/publishing team that has been doing a god awful job (Anthem marketing was awful, the beta was a terrible idea, etc).

To demonstrate.

EA's Stock Value
2014 - 28.60/share
2015 (mid year) - 73.47/share
2016 (mid year) - 75.87/share
2017 (mid year) - 107.64/share
2018 (mid year) - 145.10/share
2019 (current) - 101.0/share

Some people will look at the jump from '18 to '19 and go "OMG LOOK COMPANY IS DYING" but looking further back to '14 will show that the company's value (even with Anthem doing bad) has still nearly quadrupled in 5 years. It looks like they had trouble in '09 but have been on a pretty steady increase since then. If Apex has any staying power (and it looks like it does) then expect that number to start rising again with ease.

People also like to maintain that EA killed Bioware (or will do so this year) but EA was not likely responsible for most of Bioware's mediocrity over the last 10 years; the only game I can think of from 2010 forward that I liked was Mass Effect 2 and maybe Dragon Age : Inquisition. People like to suggest that Bioware doesn't "do" online games are quick to forget that they still actively run an MMO (SW:TOR and it's six expansions) so it isn't as "out there" as you would imagine.
