If I made the decisions in this country this is what would happen regarding SNAP benefits.

1. All non US citizens are not SNAP eligible period!
2. To qualify for SNAP you must be a working wagie not making ends meet, or a full time adult student period.
3. Mandate states use their own funds for these programs. If they are incompetent, corrupt etc then fuck em! No bail outs by the feds.
I guarantee they'll do a better job of policing the rampant EBT fraud . They also should not allow any SNAP "cash" benefits like many states have.
Food only. Maybe a small allowance to buy non food items like essential personal hygiene products.
I would also limit what can be bought with SNAP food benefits, and encourage buying grocery markdowns.
Like I said in an older comment I knew a drug addict chick with schizophrenia who fraudulently bought shit for her dealer in exchange for drugs, Steaks, lobster, expensive desserts, and she also bought alcohol with her SNAP cash. If
you get caught selling your EBT card you should be blacklisted and banned for life from SNAP period!

Typically you want to entice people to strive, not stagnate, to make a functional society. Also they allow EBT at some McDonald's now, so I'm forced, against my will, to pay to fatten them up and then pay for their healthcare. Fuck off
Why is it the dream of the "best country on earth" to have its citizens work in factories for decades just to eat?
Benefits should not be so comfortable that people prefer them to being a participant in society, or else you drive people towards, rather than away from them.
Why not? The goal of human civilization should be a world where people work as little as possible for the highest quality of life possible. I could not care less if some people on food stamps want to be happy sitting around eating treats if the vast majority of people on benefits are using that to ensure they can work jobs I don't want to work without starving, or feeding their kids so they have the ability to focus on school for a full day.

Working less and achieving post-scarcity is an admirable goal, but we're not there yet. Some people achieving it in de facto terms is not something you can look at in a vacuum, because it consequentially victimizes the rest of us.

Every dollar they don't have to earn to support their living is one I have to earn for them. That cost still exists, and their refusal to participate increases the burden for the rest of us.

This doesn't eliminate fiscal victimization from the world, it just shifts a greater burden onto fewer people.

Further, I admire that you seem to have the choice not to work a job you'd rather not without starving. Some of us don't have that luxury, and yet we still have to pay the devil his due so that others can live off our backs.

If our goal is to hit our caloric target by any means necessary, $4 can get you a bottle of Canola Oil that has about 12,000 calories. That's how real men live on a budget.
Plumbers rejoice! I have seen a couple people on the interwebz trying to drink insane amounts of oil as a challenge. They always end up throwing most of it up or it goes undigested out the other end in the toilet. Gallbladder can only do so much, folks, lol. And oil is the last thing you need in plumbing. Olive oil I have seen gel at relatively cool temps for an unsaturated fat. If you eat lard like that, lmao if you live in a cooler climate. RIP your sewage system. I mean, I know niggers don't care about any of that, but looking at it from a holistic perspective for society.

Well ideally if you were to add another hundred million people to benefits programs you would also shift the tax burden towards the wealthiest people. So many countries already use taxes to allow everyone to go to a doctor or a hospital whenever they need to, the same should be done for food as well. I don't see any evidence that a large majority of people would just sit at home, eat burgers and watch tv all day if they were able to, most would seek some sort of fulfillment in careers, relationships, kids, lots of things.

It's comical seeing people bitch about how they are going starve without snap. In my area, you can get 5lbs of flour + 5lbs rice, 1lb of butter, 3 gallons of milk, 2lbs of ground beef, canned tomates, spices, and 60 eggs for like $60. Assuming you eat that food in a week, you'll only be out $240 a month for food. Being realistic, I'd only consume around $40 of that a week despite being a male and lifting weights + cardio. It's not like the food I suggested is slop only considered edible for swine, you can make bolognese, home made bread, home made yogurt, fried rice, tacos, etc. Shit, you could go even further by buying in bigger bulk sizes and replacing the beef with beans if you're really struggling. If that is still to much, every big chain store is offering credits cards with 5% cashback on groceries and no interest for a month + a sign up bonus.

I think SNAP should continue to exist but adjusted. Expand who is eligible(Yes, I want more people to get SNAP) but only allow raw ingredients or the absolute basics like bread and reduce the amount of benefits given. With those changes, more people get fed while reducing the amount of money wasted on bullshit or fraud.
I live in a prevalent nigger area and a couple of days ago I spent about $400 on groceries and I was able to get about 10 bags of frozen vegetables for my freezer, thin strip steaks for Mexican dishes, 2 lb of potato gems, 2 lb of seasoned fries, 5 lb of ground beef, 5 lb of tilapia, those frozen burritos that I know are bad for me but I still love, 2 lb of top sirloin steaks, four dozen eggs, two separate trays of over 3 lb of boneless skinless chicken thighs, numerous cans of chili, numerous cans of black beans, numerous cans of kidney beans, and miscellaneous different cans of fruit.
I'm not going to go through my whole order but there was other stuff in there too like an $8 dollar bottle of olive oil (I refuse to buy olive oil in a plastic bottle so I have to get glass which costs more) but the point is as an unmarried man it's almost IMPOSSIBLE for me to even think of enough stuff to buy to eat and spend over $350-$400 dollars because I don't spend my cash on literal fucking garbage.
Other than the $25 dollar sirloins which I bought to eat with my girlfriend out of spite the night the government shuts down snap, nothing that I buy is insanely pricey.
On the other side of the coin, I can absolutely see where $300 dollars a month in food stamps wouldn't be enough when you're buying 2 or 3 $15 dollar sodas by the 24 pack, $5 dollar bags of cheetos, a $4 dollar pack of oreos, a $5 dollar tub of ice cream, et cetera.
My drinks are much cheaper than soda and juice and energy drinks because I drink $3 dollar gallons of whole milk or free water from the tap or tea with a spoon full of sugar if I need a caffeine buzz.
The point is when you're spending money on junk that has no nutritional value and doesn't fill you up of course you're not going to be able to afford groceries. Try spending $3 dollars on a 5 lb sack of potatoes instead of a dozen ramen noodle soups, lazy shaniqwa.
$300 dollars can absolutely provide me for a month's worth, even with another person that has breakfast and dinner over here regularly.
It's not hard to shop smart, take advantage of what's on sale, buy in bulk and not buy shit. These people want to stuff their face with treats and goodies that are full of sugar and fat and no real nutritional value. That shouldn't be our problem.
Bottom line even when food stamps come back they need to do something about people being able to buy fucking garbage with it. The fact that you can walk into any grocery store and buy mountain dew and potato chips on EBT is outrageous to me.

First the Democrats thought that Republicans didn't have the balls to shut off EBT. Then, they realized that Republicans DO have the balls, but they thought it wouldn't matter, because Trump would get blamed. Now that they realize that Trump ISN'T getting blamed, they're trying to sue for the Department of Agriculture emergency fund, so they can say "We tried, we did our best" (We are here).

What the Democrats HAVEN'T realized is, whether they win or lose the lawsuit, it's still not enough to keep the EBT coming, and they will still be the ones who are blamed. The OTHER thing they haven't realized is, if their pets chimp out hard enough, SNAP will be reformed so austerely that it will be more like the food stamp/commodity days of the 1950s - 1980s, and they will be blamed for that too, especially by the big food corporations that will be funding Republican campaigns rather than Democrat campaigns, because they'll be able to lobby Republicans to be more generous with food programs, instead of funding Democrats who will just fuck things up and lose again.

No matter what happens next, Dems have lost the fight. It's only a matter of how badly they've lost, depending on what happens over the next few weeks.

This is honestly a lot of what I think they’re going for. I think it’s something both sides want, neither has the pull or the balls to do it alone, and this is a clever way to do it and each blame it on the other. No one is going to take full blame, each side takes full credit for reforms, and Trump will always be the bad guy.

I suspect the only people truly upset over this in govt will be the ppl who have to rely majority illegal and welfare queen votes (AOC, Jasmine Crockett -god she’s an idiot they all are tbh-, Rasheeda Talib (however you spell it), and that one skank who fucked her brother or something will take a considerable hit from a sweeping welfare reform) . A lot of the old guard democrats are limousine liberals and more than a little horrified at the turns their voter bases have taken in the last 10 years. You can watch the gears turn and get stuck as they openly pander to their voter bases and still get eaten alive.

I, for one, am curious as to how this will turn out. Middle class gets fucked either way so why get too invested?

But not for you of course.
If you're not a fucking bum, no.
I too imagine this is all going to be a nothingburger, but we all live in strange times. If you had a time machine and told me in 2018 how the world would lose its collective shit over a cold, I would have told you to piss off.
There's a lot of things you could have told me in 2015 that were going to happen that I would have laughed about as being unrealistic and fantastic.

But even if you're too destitute for that, nobody ever died from plain rice and beans. Even that can be turned into a delicious meal with a few cents worth of spices and veggies from the ugly rack.
but you turn into a mexican or chink if you do that...
Pork belly is cheap, you chop it into thick pieces and fry it, add beans and you have a very nice meal.

After COVID and that bullshit for YEARS, I don't discount shit.

Open Wccfkek thread, first thing I see is Quartering video about the EBTpocalypse.

I can want both more for them than subsisting on the government's teat AND more for them than just being some wagie, at the same time, I just think that with all the fraud, waste, and disincentivizing the successful from doing things via being coerced into paying just to be normal, the EBT system is more bad than good. I wouldn't mind paying taxes if the money didn't go to people who hate me and infinity niggerslop forever. How about putting that money into large public works projects, and actually employing and training these people? We don't have to live like this.

Unfortunately pork belly can be difficult to find since it almost all gets diverted to making bacon. I have an Amish butcher nearby who sometimes sells it. When I make pork belly, I make red cooked style, the recipe Chairman Mao's personal chef made.

My pig meat and beans dish is usually something like navy/great northern beans and ham hocks or a ham bone.

That's very interesting to hear, because as someone who has lived in both places and drunk the water, Cali's was sweet, tasty

Cali's Hetch Hetchy tap water is amazing. When I travel I always stash an extra bottle of it for the trip home. lol

That said the east of the state not so much, depends on the source.

Thread Tax:
A day that should have been busy at work was not busy... My work colleagues are mostly beans and they blame Trump for the shutdown and ending snap benefits to spite evidence to the contrary. They don't seem to realize how much Newsom and his mismanagement has spent on illegal beans and how it drained the coffers.

Right? All starches can serve as great and cheap bases for poverty meals. I love pierogies. You don't need much to make Polish ravioli taste good. I love them sauteed in a bit of bacon and onions. Filling can just be as simple as mashed potatoes and they fill you up fast.
