Apparently my mother has had had a bit of a first taste of the chimpening. She is currently working at a local 24 hr grocery store and a person of EBT decided to start screaming in her face after the card declined. Full on "FEED MAH KEEDZ YOU BEEEITCH!!!!" ooga booga shit, apparently. Given her propensity to utterly ignore the news in favor of her garden, this is how she has found out EBT is not paying out next month. Her overall impression was just "Well, there wasn't a gun in my face, so that monkey is security's problem."

Only update from her is that there was a grand total of two freak outs about EBT. one from some fat Black woman with an ankh necklace who just ended up swiping a credit card anyways., Another from a known problem customer that gets fractious with the staff anyways who incorporated some "EEBUL ORANGE MAN TOOK MAH EBT" into his usual douchebaggery.

On the bright side she finally met another lady that also speaks Chechen in this area, so they seemed to have had a nice conversation.

i dont think there will be any actual riots because the people upset have not actually ran out of food yet. they have surplus and will survive on that at least until the middle of the month. if nothing is fixed by then thats when actual riots may happen. not only that but upon reading i have discovered there is another government funded program currently unable to function due to the shut down. HEAP or the home energy assistance program is a program that gives low income households money for heating and or electric bills.

unlike SNAP though the money is given directly to either the power company or an energy vendor (such as a company that sells fire wood for a wood stove) without this program some people mainly those in the north will be rather cold during the winter.

Made a fish Sammie with a slice of cheese, bread and butter sweet pickles, and some dabs of ghost pep hot sauce.

Delicious and almost free dinner.

Edit; I still have 4 fish from my daily limit still soaking in water in my fridge. They will be frozen with ice soon and added to my freezer. Once a week all winter long I will be defrosting walleye and sauger and perch and crappie and channel cats for dinner. If you aren't eating self caught frozen fish fish twice a week all winter long you have zero survival skills. Good luck.

this wasn't true everywhere but in many cities there was a robust system of free and low cost clinics. They were dismantled when ACA came in. I know people who had been involved in originally setting some of them up in the Bay Area and their hearts were completely broken.

I am at the local store grabbing a few things, and I stop to look at some sale item in the store. Some obese, dark brown Hispanic woman comes up to me with a full cart and asks me to buy her groceries for her. I am genuinely flabbergasted, because usually beggars at least have the good nature to wait outside of the store to harass you, but then I realize she is serious and genuinely thought some random dude would buy her cart full of groceries for her. urgent care isn't cheap and the doctors in them mostly suck. these were free or very very cheap and excellent. the first wave was set up by Great Society-War on Poverty new left hippies and the second wave by AIDS activists. As for life threatening stuff, every emergency room is legally obligated to stabilize you so that you are able to walk out the door with the exception of one or two and I think it's Tennessee. So don't get hurt in Tennessee because they're pieces of shit.
There was actually a video that I saw of the police coming because the hospital threw out a woman that was in the middle of having a stroke because she didn't have insurance. The police made her leave without treating the stroke.
Before Obamacare Medicaid was pretty easy to get if you didn't have a job that gave you insurance. Also, more jobs have their own insurance that was better than Obamacare.

you just reminded me when my local hospital did the same thing. once they cut off all the junkies crying they're in crippling pain that magically can walk without issue as soon as they realize the docs aren't going to give them drugs, wait time for the ER went from multiple hours to basically nonexistent. I had a work-related injury recently that required an ER trip, when I got to the hospital I was immediately seated in my own room in just a few minutes. massive improvement from the last time I had to go to the hospital a few years ago when I crashed my dirt bike pretty bad. Back then I had to wait in the lobby for over an hour, bleeding from multiple lacerations and with a broken foot until they finally cleared a bed for me.
