Something I've noticed is that the same people who complain about EBT are typically also the ones who don't understand how it works.
You know why jobless Shaniqua gets more than some poor bastard that actually is employed? It's exactly because she doesn't have a job, and the other guy does. In the government's eyes, if that guy has a job-even if it's the worst paying job ever-he still has an income, and therefore shouldn't qualify for as much assistance as Shaniqua does because he theoretically has more money to already help him.
Furthermore, even if he does qualify for assistance, he's going to have to barely work at all, and keep them constantly updated with how much money he's making, or else he could lose all that help. It doesn't matter how much that guy is able to work, or even if he really wants to. If he does it, he'll be worse off than if he wasn't working.
Tl;dr: The system is fucked, and makes it so poverty, and unemployment are not just encouraged, but also tend to be needed to get by.
